Re: My 64 C-10 fleetside shortbed build

chad, those mirrows do look good on our style trucks. I got my dura block kit today so maybe I can get back on my roof work this week. Time is just not on my side right now having 4 young daughters under 8. I have 2 sets of twin girls, one set 8 and other set 16 months. homework and babysitting in the evening until wife gets home and then supper and baths so not much time left for the truck. one of my 8 year old girls is showing interest in the truck so I think its time to let her learn how to do some sanding in the near future. Im already ready for spring time, I dont like this cold weather and getting dark at 5:00 oclock.

I am thinking of going super cheap on blocking.
a 2x4 and some adhesive sanding sheets....

Finally a free day and it was sunny with temp in the mid 50s. I rolled the truck cab out and sprayed 3 coats of full fill primer on it. Thats all I have done lately reguarding the truck. I went by carquest today and picked up some white base coat so I can trim out the roof channel before the seam sealer goes in. so on to the pics, 1st pic is the first coat and all other pics is after the 3rd coat. The last pic is where I had to do the metal shrinking to fix the oil can and dent.

Man that looks like it came out super straight! Just like new.
Good going, I am hoping with some filler and primer I can make my hack jobs look better than they are at this time.

Looking good man!

went down to the shop tonight after supper and started doing some blocking on the roof. I think its going to block out ok, I did see some pin holes I have to go back and fill in though. Also welded up the old side kick plate screw holes (they were about stripped out). I will put in new kick plates and drill new holes one day, LOL. Im ready now to trim out the roof channel in white and put the new seam sealer in. Im also ready to put in final top coat of semi gloss black on the bottom of the cab. Im feel like im getting so much closer to being ready to sit the cab back on the frame.

Re: My 64 C-10 fleetside shortbed build

I havent started the inside yet, except the panel around the back window that I stripped with a palm sander and 180 grit paper. I got to stand the cab back up to get the inside. Im trying to focus on what needs to be done so I can mount the cab back on the frame for good.

Re: My 64 C-10 fleetside shortbed build

I got the whole bottom of the cab scuffed up tonight ready for the last top coat of semi gloss black paint. I think im going to pressure wash my frame tomorrow and then friday if it gets into the mid 60s like they are saying it will, I hope to paint it with some chassis black and also paint the bottom of the cab. If I have time tomorrow Im going to trim the roof channel out in white so I can put the seam sealer in.

I got my roof cab channel trimmed out in white today. Its ready for the seam sealer now when the paint drys good. I then washed the frame with some purple stuff cleaner/degreaser and a scuff pad. Its pretty clean and has small amout of rust here and there. Im not building a show truck nor have the time or money to do my frame up like a lot of you guys on here. The more I thought about the frame and looked at it I guess its probally cleaner right now than alot of newer cars and trucks on the road right now. So tomorrow im going to paint it with chassis black and then it will be ready for the cab.

Thats exactly what I want my truck to look like. I love the stance of it too. Not to low to drive but sits nice and low. I love that color combo ever since I first saw these trucks when I was real little.

I have been watching your build, coming along nicely, sure a lot of work over a long time, but will be worth it. Liking the shortbox frame idea.

I kept looking at the frame and those rear springs I didnt paint And I just had to get them out of there. So the top 2 bolts came out good but I broke both the bottom bolts and the one holder thing that holds the spring down was rusted and it tore up. I sat the new 4 inch drop springs in to see what they looked like but those rear helper leaf springs bottomed out on the bump stops so they will be coming off.

went back down to the shop after supper. Im tired of this rust hole looking at me everytime I walk into the shop, or me looking at it, LOL. I finally went ahead and fixed it tonight.

thanks guys on the comments!! Hey flips, im painting the top all white and white inside the trim on the side. I finally took that odd ball rim off the driver rear side. had to heat the lug nuts up to get them loose. I went ahead and pulled the drum off and it looked pretty good inside. didnt see anything that would pose a problem. I also jacked the rear end up and I beleive I have a limited slip and not a posi unless the posi unit is worn out. I tryed to rotate both rear tires at the same time 1 full turn and the pinion turned 2 3/4 turns so im guessing I have a 2.73 rear end gear. This frame im using was a factory 327 and 3 on the tree, (thats what I was told anyways). Well I flipped the cab over again and put the pass side door on and started fitting the cab corner. The last patch panel on the cab I have to do.

well ran into another road block today. I tryed fitting the new cab corner and it fits good at the bottom. At the top its about 1/2 an inch to wide. I held it up staight and it even looks bent crooked where it welds to the door jam. I guess ill have to split it down and take some metal out of it to get it to fit up against the back of the cab. Any suggestions from the pros before I cut this thing up??
