nice to see some progress.... where did you finally end up getting those fittings?

Re: my official 68 shortstep ls1 thread (lots of pics)
Bed looks good. Looks like I will need to fill some spot weld dips for you to make sure it is completely smooth. That is the grey coating i was telling you about that would have to be sanded at least with some 180 grit da before applying a few coats of epoxy primer.

Re: my official 68 shortstep ls1 thread (lots of pics)
Ok, should fire mine up on sunday :D just can't drive it till the clutch assembly is taken care of :D hopefully this will be a motivator.
I also need to solve the gas filler problem as you have. |
Re: my official 68 shortstep ls1 thread (lots of pics)
good job... once you hear it fire up and run you'll get your MOJO back... and catch your second wind...

Re: my official 68 shortstep ls1 thread (lots of pics)
Damnit, you relocated your battery, didn't you? :D
Please tell me you have your old truck battery cables? If so, can I ask for the largest favor ever and have you: A) Post a picture of them (pos and neg) B) Measure the length of each piece of wire on each cable This would be a huge help for me. I *am* still looking at a custom solution, but thought it would be wicked sweet if I could manage to find a "stock" solution for my wiring needs. F-body cables are too short by roughly 8" ... 8" costs a lot of $$$ :D PS - I plan to fire up on Sunday. Got Marvell oil in each cylinder to free up the rings, just in case, will put royal purple in the filler tomorrow morning before work, and the block and radiator have both been filled separately. Just have three wires to attach in the engine bay, two gauges to attach in the cab, and two wires to run in the rear of the truck! I'll be sure to take a video of first fire-up  |

Re: my official 68 shortstep ls1 thread (lots of pics)
i got it figured out. typical example of me being overly anal again. I dropped the anality and got it all wired up. turned mine over last night, but didn't fire it yet. should get it fired tonight. more info available in the last post of my LS1tech thread (linked in sig). don't want to copy/paste or retype it all :D

Re: my official 68 shortstep ls1 thread (lots of pics)
Nice to see some progress! Glad I'm not the only one :D I ordered one of those intake setups from Kennedy Offroad yesterday afternoon, and picked up an aux battery tray over the weekend. Hoping to get wired up myself weekend after next when I get to work on the truck again.
Curious - I'm going to be installing a resevoir for coolant in the near future. I have strongly considered just buying a generic plastic setup from the store and mounting it, but I also saw the billet setup you have (Summit sells those pretty cheap), and I'm curious if you could break down the individual components that make up the braided line you're connecting the two with, i.e.: What is your radiator output (threaded? hose bib?) What is the overflow tank input (threaded? hose bib?) What size braided line did you use? What is on each end of the braided line to allow it to interface with the overflow tank and radiator? |

Re: my official 68 shortstep ls1 thread (lots of pics)
thats the primer that i told ya about that just flakes off... i was gonna remove it with acetone, but got bored :) but it'll come off super easy with a compressed air or sanding...

Re: my official 68 shortstep ls1 thread (lots of pics)
all the metal work was done, new floors, inner and outer rockers, smothed the firewall, filled the gas fill hole, and removed dents and filled the mirror holes in the doors.... it still needs to be final sanded and and painted, but im trying to make it as easy as possible on you..
