Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
Just getting back over here for the first time since the holidays started. Looking good Robert!!
What's on the menu for this weekend? I'm going to talk to the boy about coming down for a couple hours to take a peek at all the progress. |
Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
A couple of things. First, I grew up in the Castroville and Prunedale area, and I LOVE to see that area on the map. Salinas gets a bad rap sometimes, but its nice to see something positive coming out of that area. Second, I am moving from Oregon to Santa Barbara county, with NO knowledge of shops or truck stuff anywhere. Knowing you guys are a few hour drive north is a huge relief for me when I get settled and back into my build.
And finally, I am sad I didn't see this before, because this build, your shop, your talent for a "part-time" builder with a life outside of the shop, is truly an inspiration to me. I'm not super mechanically inclined, but can stumble my way through stuff. The progress you've made and how jaw dropping all of the progress and pics are, inspire me to believe that I can build something with the right amount of motivation. PLEASE don't let this get buried. I'm subbed, and I'll post a pic of my facial expression each time I see your work, if that's what will get you to continue to post! |

I am sure Greg would love the company, I won't be in town this weekend. |

We sure do thank you for your support. Salinas is actually loaded with builders and has been for ever. Back in the 70's I used to cruise main in my 55 Chevy and this town was just loaded with hot rods. Most of us grew old and fat and quit building but I sure do enjoy working in my shop. |

There's definitely some good shops in the Salinas area but Robert is a rare breed of his own but will never never tell you so. There isn't a guy I know today that gives more of himself and his available resources to help those around him to achieve dreams of their own. A couple years ago I spent the better part of a year with Robert building one of my two wheel dreams.... Attachment 1721857 Attachment 1721858 |

Today was just about photos. We had a real camera here and so we moved the truck over to the assembly side of the shop and took pictures. I shot some too with my phone so I'll post them here for you.

First of all, I am glad to hear about Salinas. My nephew still lives there with his Dad, i guess a trip up to visit him and swing by the shop might be in order after we get settled in Solvang!
That bike is simply gorgeous. Im not a huge motorcycle fan, but the simplicty and lines of that one are beautiful. Very well done! And as far as the progress on the truck, once again, having to pick my jaw up off my desk at work lol. Side question, Robert, do you do fab work on the side for pay? Because I will travel to get work done by you! |

I will take on projects, but time and space considerations apply. Tell your nephew to come by and scout our shop out for you, if he is a motorhead he will love the place. ;) |

Your shop is is very nice, looks like you have put a lot of work into making a great environment to build cool projects.

The new short steering column finally showed up, Greg had it installed in about 5 minutes.
It had me a little nervous because I had built the notch in the frame laid out from a tape measure and eyeballing it. :metal: Attachment 1735986 Attachment 1735987 Attachment 1735988 Attachment 1735989 |
