I am not saying a C-notch kit isn't a good idea, but it might not be required. |

I answered no because I have an axle flip AND I do not have a c-notch and it works just fine (its my daily-driver too). It all depends on his rear springs if they are already sagging from age and/or if they have been replaced with a higher spring rate spring pack, yet the ride height was unchanged. |
Re: How many 2wd Blazer do we have?
You also don't have stock springs. It's like comparing apples to oranges. I'm not trying to argue either, but I guarantee if you flip the axle on a blazer with stock springs you will need a notch. Which is what he asked.
Just would hate for someone to go to the trouble to do a flip kit thinking that he could use it without a notch, then have to change more parts to get it to a point where it would work. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: How many 2wd Blazer do we have?
Not only that but if your springs are 4" longer than that will give you more of a arch than a smaller spring which will be flatter thus closer to the frame rails.
Even with a notch my axle tube hits frame rails on a decent bump.. That is another reason why I'm in the process of getting parts to bag the truck. I need a larger notch and since I need to cut th e floor anyways might as well go all the way.. |

The only advantage in my case for the longer top spring is a little more stiffness while actaully providing a better ride quality which is why GM switched ALL full size trucks to a rear 56" top spring with the new body style in '88 ('92 on K5/Burbs). Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: How many 2wd Blazer do we have?
A longer spring generally will lift the truck because the shackle has to rotate back further. Causing the pivot to be lower in relation to the frame. Causing the truck to sit higher.

Re: How many 2wd Blazer do we have?
You are correct. I did miss that. But that even furthermore enforces th point I was trying to make. Your blazer is nothing like his. Different length springs and relocated hangers.
And it isn't my first rodeo either I've had 10 square body 2wd blazers. 6 of those had flip kits, so in response to the question that was asked, Yes you will need a notch.......unless you want to change a bunch of stufff, in which case you may not need it. But if you put on a 6" suspension lift you won't need one either, but that wasn't the question was it? Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: How many 2wd Blazer do we have?
ok, i have a 78 2wd blz and i pulled 2 leafs. it gave me 4 inches of drop and put me on the bump stops. i took the bumpstops out and i have 2 1/2 inches before i hit frame. if a flip gives you 5 inches of drop then that would leave 1 1/2 inches. now that may be enough clearance to drive it IF the shocks have been addressed angle wise and shorter shocks (like putting front shocks in the rear) were put in...and deal with an occasional bottom out and hit to the frame. if you have nicer roads in your area then this would cause you to think you dont need a c-notch.
if you havent addressed the shock issue, there is no way it's not going to hit as your leafsprings are going to bounce so much that it will touch on big bumps. to the guy who is asking....do the flip and install some extenders with stock front shocks and you might be ok, but make sure you can do the c-notch install if you need to later, cause chances are you'll end up wanting one. |

mine has a 4 inch drop and i measure 13 inches from fender well opening to center of my axle. ford assassin, if you measure 12 inches, than you have a 5 inch drop which i would consider close to the drop of a flip on stock equiptment. mine never hits with a 4 inch drop but if i went 5 i would probably hit going over railroad tracks... keep in mind, these are blazers and 2 or 3 people in the back seat will definitely hit axle with a flip! |

Alright... I'll bite. Long time lurker, but I picked this up about a year ago... Have been busy dealing with electrical issues on it/tuning it up, but will either be bagged or convert the static drop to coil overs in the future with an LS drivetrain :). Factory 2wd 77 - Mild 350, 700R4 - working factory A/C. Lifetime AZ truck, so minimal rust... and yes, all of the moldings/handles/side marker lamps have been shaved and airbrushed back on by the previous owner. (plans to change that are in the future):

Re: How many 2wd Blazer do we have?
Thanks guys! Interior was gutted by p/o and was in the beginning stages of being covered in dynomat. It did come with a rear seat not installed and 2 sets of bucket seats (tall backs are from a thunderbird i believe.. and the low backs are from a 75 suburban if i'm not mistaken).

I don't know about you, but I'd be stoked to have the body done and get to finish out the interior in the color and style you want. What are your plans for it? Red/blue/tan/black? Red?

Two-tone red/black? All red is loud, for the longest time I didn't like it but have come to love it. It shows well, you can see all the detail better when it's finished out. Whatever you do, keep us posted, beautiful truck.

Thanks again for the kind words! |

Don't think I've posting in this thread yet. He's my 78 Jimmy 2wd I swapped with another forum member. It's still a long way from finished but it's on hold currenty while I'm building my 80 C10

Here's a pic of the 1982 Jimmy 2wd we bought in North Carolina in the spring. Apparently a couple years ago it was two tone silver and blue. The 22's are growing on us. Third pic is the Jimmy beside my lifted Blazer.
