hmm. Beats me. Hey kimble. I have a rear output seal in the transfer case that leaks like a Siv. Do you remember by chance where you picked up the seals or rebuild kit for the t221?

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

Matt--no gaskets avl that i know of. I made my own and they have to be real thin. Jason that i got the t/f case from had some thicker ones he made. those caps pre-load the bearings at least the ones with shims. the thicker ones made pre-load problems. even after i resealed mine it leaked also, not bad though. cleaned good with brake clean and ran a bead of sealer around the cap. which ones leaking pic?

mattbert56 05-03-2015 02:47 PM

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

I'll upload a picture when I can but it's the rear yoke on the tcase going to the rear end. The round seal is what's leaking. Not the gasket that seals the cap to the case. its leaked out everything it has in the case in about 2 days.

Mattbert56 I don't know how I missed your build thread, You've ton a ton of work on that truck glad to see another 4x4 I really like your 292 green and everything, That floor board reminds me of that wrinkle paint they used in the 60's car trunk's. I like it, I bet that ole 4 barrel did wake up that 292. I haven't really driven mine on the road yet so I don't know anything about the running gear other than when I tried it out 2 yrs ago with
4:56's and that 4 spd she was Veeeeery Sloooooooooooooow... but now with 1/2 3:73's hopefully will get some speed out of her..... 1 pc at a time...

Thanks Randy ! Your build has been one of my favorites. Always look forward to your updates. The 600 and headers is a definite upgrade I wish I did long ago. Im only a day or so away from a test drive. I just need the weld on the steering Shaft.

Matt--Is your yoke grooved where the seal rides? Leaking around the outside of the seal? through the splines?

Today finished fabing the steering rod. Took the cut end to work cleaned it up threw some color on her and cut up some 304 stainless tubing and drilled holes for plug welds. (Had to shorten the steering shaft by 1.5 inches) either way got everything welded up nice and sturdy. Got to use that tig welder on its first prodject. Did fantastic! Better than new. I adjusted the throttle linkage for the last time. And fired her up and away I went Down the road for a test drive... drip drip dripping all the way down the neighborhood. Hahaha pkay.. how do I post videos. This is driving me nuts.

Thnks tj. The video was shot from a friends I phone. And sent to me via txt. It would have been beter if I shot it from my galaxy s4. But I was a little pretty occupied hahaha. Sounds better I person. U got her into 3rd for a few seconds and it really let out that distinctive half dozen sound. Now for the flow master All 2.5 pipe from the collectors back.

Joe pass. U have always paid at the door when I drive in. I just show up a little early to get an okay spot. Maybe even under a tree this year. :)

Hmmm....maybe super 10s are in order. Hahah I'll see how they sound. I'll tack them on and seal em up. If I don't like em I'll try dual Thrush tubes... I'll post the video whenever I put the exhaust on.

Oh I'm well aware. That's why I have these for those neighborhoods where they don't like noisy neighbors. ;D. As a younger kid I was that one that was always getting in trouble. I'll also make sure to turn them down so when there open they will resonate off the ground and bottom of my truck. Nice and loud like

welded up half my exhaust need to buy mufflers that fit. The super 40s. Are to big. But for now. 2 and a half inch straight pipes with turn downs tack welded on just to move the exhaust down. Sounds so much better!!! Also figured better keep the theme of In line going. So I did the exhaust inline :)

Can't believe napa auto had this on the shelf for the 65. It came up for the rear output shaft/yoke seal on a t221 transfer case.. Hm. Guess you get lucky sometimes. I think that the ID. And OD are just very common sized associated with transfer cases. Beats me but who cares. Now I would t leak everywhere!:two: also got the bumper on except my front grill guards.(Those bad boys on the bumper in the last picture) Those r going on tomorrow night

Got alot done after work today. Wired the truck back up tail light, head lights ect. All works. just had to bypass a few old. Wires in the harness. But did that. Removed rear t case yoke and put in a new output shaft seal that fit like a charm. fixed the oil pressure guage fitting that is in the block. That WAS giving me troube. Now my truck has zero leaks!!! For the first time ever! Also paintedvmy spare tire rim. Have to re shoot but oh well its on a truck....

Haha the temp was pegged out she was really only at 160. Fewf. Haha other than than she rode fine. Just slow.. really slow.. darn 4:56 gears cruised down there with my buddy and his 51 gmc.. last ones for tj. It's a 292 with fuel injection. Nice car to

Matt it was great meeting you yesterday. That 55 is Ron's, he's in our club. To says he's super talented would be an understatement. You should have seen the car when he started....... Fabed up his own FI it runs good in the quater mile and is super dependable.
