The next set of pics are the stainless air and brake lines. The airlines are complete except that I have to connect two lines from the takes to the valve manifolds.

This pic shows the lines going out to the bags. All lines are 1/4 inch.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3384/...cba1fcea_b.jpg

Here is where the two airlines go around the notch. This is the same on both sides. One line is for the rear bag, and the other line is for the front bag. In this pic, you will also see the brake lines. Notice the line on the top round bar. I STOLE this idea from Scotts Hot rods. No more lines on the axle. Nice and clean. Thanks Scotts! Oh, I am using AN fittings here. A braided stainless line will connect to this fitting to the caliper.

This is the other side. Sorry for the blurry pic. The clips are freakin awesome. They are from made4u.

This is one of the rear bags.

Here you can see the brake line crossing from the driver side to pass. side

air line on top, brake line on bottom...

This pic shows the Summit adjustable prop valve which is also a distribution block AND has a brake light switch. Nice little piece. You can also see the end of the air line. A braided stainless line from the front bag will connect here.

Here is my temporary setup for getting air in the front bags.

Here is the soft line coming out of the crossmember. A little dusty in there!

Wow, that's incredible looking. I really want to do hard on my truck. I bought some 3/8" line and fought with it until it looked horrible and then gave up. Your's turned out amazing have you done this much before?

jlaird 06-07-2009 10:13 PM

Re: progress pics

nope, first time. I just take my time. Every one of those hard lines you see I did a first time with cheapo steel line as a template and after I had it perfect, just copied it in stainless. It took longer but I didnt screw up one piece of stainless.

Agree with everone else - looks great! Can you let me know what type of bender and flaring tool you used. Was the kit you ordered form inline coiled when shipped - I've got them that way sometimes it is a pain to straighten out.

I'm not looking for nor do I have a need for speed with my air system. 1/4" will give me good control for adjustability too.

I highly recommend Ridgid for benders and flaring tools. They are a step above all the rest. They cost a little more, but once you use them, you will immediately know why. The kit from inline comes with 6 foot straight lengths. You don't really need to buy the kit though. I didn't end up using some of the fittings, but when you are just getting familiar with things, you tend to go for kits. Looking back, if I knew how I was going to lay out the brake system, I would buy the individual fittings I needed.

you did a great job doin the plumbing! what did you use to cut the stainless? Iv been told not to use a normal tube cutter..

Re: progress pics

Is that just stainless brake line for the bags? I heard that I would be able to use 1/2 Stainless fuel line for my bags. Does anyone know if that would be aright?

A regular tubing cutter works, but make sure the blade is sharp. However, I've read not to use a regular cutter because it "work hardens" the metal. Instead, to use a dremel type tool with a cutoff wheel. I've used both with success. The only reason I don't like the dremel is because it blows metal dust up the tube when cutting.

That would be fine. Just make sure it is annealed. The annealing process softens the stainless so you can flare it. But why are you using 1/2"? That is way too big unless you are going to join those hopping competitions:lol:

Re: progress pics

Lol. Well I have 1/2 Bags, so i guess I might end up getting some reducer bushings to run 3/8. I still have a few days to decide because my frame is going in the paint booth today so i can start spraying.

Wow! your hard line skills are top notch. Very impressive for you first time. I plan to do something similar when I redo my 65. I might have to "steal" some of your ideas.

That's some excellent work! I planned on hard-lining mine but DOT tubing is so easy, so I put it off to a later date for functionality's sake.

They are from CFR performance. I had a guy on here powder coat them for me the wrinkle black. They came polished aluminum from CFR. Here is a link.

For the brake lines, I ordered 4 or 5 6ft lengths. It cost $17.70 per 6ft length at inline tube.
