Finally back on the road with new suspension. ECE 2"/4" lower coils. 255/60-15 tires. I'll be going with some 255/70-15's when these wear out.

Re: How about some pics of Static dropped 60-66
Very shortly, this will be my daily driver. I plan to add power steering, 700r4 tranny, and vintage air. Like others, I have plans for tons of other upgrades, but it has to be operationally sound, first and foremost. Paint will come last. It will be '66 Madeira Maroon with white cab and stripe. Already have rest of trim for sides.

Re: How about some pics of Static dropped 60-66
Quick question on the static dropped trucks. How many of you are notching the frame in the rear? I'm dropping a '64 long box, looking at "5 drop coils, or a combination of blocks & coils totaling "5 in the rear and wondering how necessary a set of bolt-in c-notches would be? Any opinions? Maybe pics of how close the rear axle is to the frame in your static drop setup?? Any info is much appreciated!!!!

Re: How about some pics of Static dropped 60-66
I am not sure of the "magic number" where you would add c-notch but I have had three of these trucks, two lowered, and the short bed was the lowest. I added the c-notch because it felt like I would lose control when on the freeway and hit a bump on the road. At first I could not figure it out because bumpstops are rubber and soft. Thought maybe it was the front end/bumpsteer. I noticed when I would add a decent load out back the axle was resting on the bumpstops. After I installed the c-notch it made a world of difference in ride quality and highway speed stability. I HIGHLY recommend it when lowering these trucks any significant amount like you propose. Maybe check distance between bumpstops and axle after you drop the truck to be sure. Just my .02...

Re: How about some pics of Static dropped 60-66
Hey Polaris,
The "rule of thumb" is anything over 4 inches should be notched. I'll post up a couple of pictures soon, but I just completed a 4 inch coil drop and my spacing is fine. However, if I were to go any lower, I'd definitely notch the frame. |
Re: How about some pics of Static dropped 60-66
Thanks for the replies, that pretty much answered my question. Since I'm gonna have the box off it over the winter, I'm thinkin it'd be a smart time to go ahead with the notches. Thanks again!!!

Re: How about some pics of Static dropped 60-66
This is at 5-1/2" in the front and 6-1/2" in the rear as measured from the floor to underside of main frame rails directly below front and rear cab mounts.

Re: How about some pics of Static dropped 60-66
I have gone through this thread and see a lot of cool trucks.
There is a lot of hard work showing in those photos. Nice job guys. What I am wondering is where are the photos of the suspensions? I am specifically looking to find information on coil over front and rear static suspensions. I was going to do air springs but can't find a system that has a single set ride height as I do not want to have a variable system. So I was thinking a static coil over system would be best for what I am doing. Does anyone know if there is anything available on static coil over suspensions and if so where? :5150: |
Re: How about some pics of Static dropped 60-66
Durg's is static drop ridetech coil over. Check his thread, GREAT work on his truck.

I'm machining the lower control arm shafts for more caster and hope to have the front done in a couple of weeks. I'm gonna start a build thread on it then. Stay tuned. |
Re: How about some pics of Static dropped 60-66
Here is mine. 5" CPP drop springs in the rear. 3" CPP drop springs in the front that have been cut down 'a little'...
I'm actually in the process of going thru the front suspension with drop spindles to improve the suspension geometry. Ball joints look like the buttons on a fat man's coat! http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...Y/DSCN4323.jpg |
