He acknowledged receipt and sent me a photo of the pallet having arrived safe and sound. He had originally told me that he wouldn't be able to start on it until this week, so I will be checking in with him soon to see what his thoughts are once he'd viewed the engine and components. While I am impatiently waiting on my engine rebuild, I have been busily getting everything else in tip top shape. A friend painted the Mar-K bed metal that was still in primer. I decided to wire in and install four speakers, two will be installed in kick panels from Rod Door, two will be speaker enclosures behind the bench seat, and a subwoofer under the bench seat. I'm not sure it will make a big difference, but my adult son who fantasizes that this is "our truck" wanted them and I was bored.
This week I will begin the process of sanding and staining the new bed wood. Then I'll just have to sit and twiddle my thumbs until an engine is delivered. Attachment 2361404 Attachment 2361405 |

So for those of you that remember this thread, I have been waiting patiently since April for my engine to get rebuilt. It was in line behind a number of other engine waiting for its turn to be worked on. I've stayed in touch with the builder throughout and this past week, he started sending me photos of my engine underway.
I thought I would share photos of the engine and my recently completed bed wood set. Attachment 2384004 Attachment 2384005 Attachment 2384006 Attachment 2384007 Attachment 2384008 |
Re: Eliminate draft tube options
Man, that engine looks almost as nice as the bed. Hope the truck runs as good as it looks.

Re: Eliminate draft tube options
looks good. do you have a completion date?
|
Re: Eliminate draft tube options
I mean a date when you will see it back at your shop ready to install

Conceivably, I could have it in my shop before Labor Day BUT, isn't there always a but. He is trying to find a way to shorten the shaft on my magneto, he doesn't like how tall it is and fear that it will walk around under load. Attached is a picture of the magneto and the shaft that has a tach generator that I don't need with electronic gauges. But in total the shaft when assembled on the magneto stands tall. He is trying to fabricate a shaft from an old distributor and a sleeve to hold the mag. Once he has that figured out, then the engine can be started. Attachment 2384349 |
Re: Eliminate draft tube options
yikes, that IS tall.

Re: Eliminate draft tube options
looking good. soon it will be in your shop.
possibly consider a support clamp on the oil pressure sender because vibration causes cracks in the fittings. the longer and heavier the parts are then the ore chance of having an issue. I have seen some crack at the exit from the block and you don't want that. easier to whip up a clamp before it goes into the truck. you're gonna have fun driving soon. kepp posting up pics as you go |

Link to video of first engine run.

Re: Eliminate draft tube options
Did you break in the cam? Ran it at 1500-2000 rpm for 20 minutes.
In the video the rpm sounds low. |

Re: Eliminate draft tube options
Considering the front mount, is there a need for an engine tie down strap?

Re: Eliminate draft tube options
What are you using for a throttle hook up?
I’ve seen a steel cable looped over an exhaust manifold close to the head and tied onto the frame. |

Re: Eliminate draft tube options
Your lokar cable is better than a mechanical linkage.
If a mount breaks at least your engine won’t go full throttle. A steel cable looped from the front of the engine (drivers side ) down to the frame is just a precautionary device. Just in case a mount breaks and the motor twists up to the passenger side. |

That looks great in there.

Re: Eliminate draft tube options
if you have a place nearby that makes cables with pressed on connections you could have a cable made for the purpose of engine torque restriction, you know, to save the hassle of a motor mount giving out and causing damage. they could press on a connection with a bolt hole the size you need and the cable length you need. ensure to leave a little slack so the engine can move a little otherwise you will hear the harmonics of the engine through the solid link to the frame when the engine pulls even a little.personally I think cable looks better than chain, just me though.

Re: Eliminate draft tube options
With the cable throttle torque reaction of the motor won't pin the throttle open.
Anyone reading this with a solid rod throttle setup: the key safety thing for you is to make sure the link between firewall and engine is angled so that if the motor rises up after a mount brakes the arc of the link moving closes the throttle, not opens. With new mounts I'd just keep an eye on them. Or weld a tab to the cross member to limit how much the motor can twist if RR mount breaks. Or run the ignition wire so it unplugs itself if the motor flops over. That is a very pretty engine bay, a chunk of chain is going to look off. |
