LOL, I started with a 1966 Chevelle, then a 1988 Mustang convertible, then the 1969 C10, now a 1966 C10 and as mentioned.. soon hopefully a 1940 Coupe. I tell people it is like a disease that will not go away, but one I like... lol but dang can be expensive disease with all that comes with it.

We have one of the most beautiful hobbies.
Freshly motivated, I went back to the Panel today and straightened the last areas, I'm quite satisfied, the body filler will fill up the bumps, it's a straight surface again and the wheel arch is back in shape.
Before and after is good to see. The Taillight Housing has yet to be shaped.

I really love “Before and After” photos.

They are motivating too.

You have done well so far.

Amazing transformation

Yes, I like the before and after thing, too.
It was just a moment ago, I got a little sentimental, my sheet metal work on the C10 is finished. The taillight housing is also aligned and the bracket for the chain pin is also screwed.

Haha, bring a little tear to your eye?
The repairs look good!

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

You stand in front of it and think, that's it now? Welding machine can be pushed into the corner, no more bending and hitting sheet metal.
That could have happened with the little tears :D

Now I'm ready to Epoxy Primer the panel and then fill it.
That was instructive work.
It took a few passes.

A little progress in the shop, meanwhile the panel is painted with epoxy.
It's too cold and the paint needs weeks to dry so that I can apply and sand bodyfiller.
I also need a lot of patience.

Looking great Sir!! Keep up the work. I am pushing off body work for now with the temps and running all my lines and such..... could be a bit of not excited to do body work because I suck at it... lol

I wish everyone a happy new year.
I painted the inner Wheel Tube with epoxy, I had to plug a few more holes.
I completely forgot.
I was able to take advantage of the warm temperatures and filled the panel
and started sanding it, it feels good.

I am amazed and impressed with your results, well done.

And a great New Years wish for you and your family.

I assembled the bed and painted the inside.
Another step further.

Step by step you are moving ahead Harald.

Some day I hope to get to that point too.

Progress

I managed to paint the loading bed, it was quite cramped in my paint booth,
just a little touch-up and then it's ready to be mounted on the truck.
Tailgate still has to be done, build the loading bed.

Put the bed back on the truck.
It looks like a real C10.

Installed the loading bed today, it looks good.
A problem arises, the holes on one row on the carrier do not match, all the others fit.
I ordered the wrong strips for a Long Stepside, now I don't know if it's different there,
I ordered the short strips for a Long Fleetside from MarK, the holes don't fit there at all, but they have a good reputation.
I'm just a little clueless. In the end I'll probably weld them shut and re-drill them.
Unfortunately, I have already passed on my old stripes, so I cannot compare them.

joesscamaro 01-25-2023 02:58 PM

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

That's a bummer about the bed strip holes not lining up. It doesn't help your situation but your truck is coming along nicely and looking good!

pdxhall 01-25-2023 03:30 PM

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

When I put my bed together to mark all of the holes, it took me several days to get everything squared away. Is it way off or just slightly? This sort of thing can get very frustrating. By the way, your truck looks great.

Braunschweiger 01-25-2023 03:41 PM

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

Thanks for the kind words.
On the 4th picture you can see the misalignment, the bolt also fits into the wheel tube and the holes fit on both sides.
The Frame bolts are also in their positions.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

Morning Harald,
Looks like I have a lot of frustration (potentially) ahead when I get to fitting ,y strips, also from MarK but I plan on making my own bed strips.
Your work, as always, looks exemplary.
Well done, despite the setback.

I don't think you'll have any problems with your stripes, because the Long Step Stripes on my lasts aren't exactly the same as Long Fleetside.
The short strips from mark-K are exact for 60-62 long Fleetside, it even says on the back.
Well, I welded the holes shut today and already pre-drilled the new holes.

pdxhall 01-26-2023 12:43 PM

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

I'm a little confused about what is wrong. You mentioned long stepside wood which completely different than the fleetside. Did you contact Mar-K about your problem? My bedwood and strips are from Mar-K and worked out perfectly once I got it aligned correctly.

Braunschweiger 01-26-2023 02:24 PM

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

Yes, it's confusing. No wood, just the stripes, I build wood myself.
As written, I had ordered the wrong stripes from Chevy Classic Truck Parts and reordered the small side strips from Mark-k.
That's the only place I even got the Stripes to have a complete set. Now I had to make the best of it, at least I expected the sidebars to fit, now they do.

Since it has gotten quite warm at the moment, I used this, to paint the tailgate, so the painting work is done for now.
The stripes are now also adjusted, note to me: Long Stepside, do not fit on a Fleetside truck.:D
Now I can take care of the bed wood.

Grizz1963 02-14-2023 04:06 AM

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

Morning Harald,

Tailgate looks good.

Do you own a spare long bed tailgate?

Two options I guess.

Sell it on, or make a tailgate bench for your garden.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

That's a good idea, unfortunately I only have this one.
Maybe I'll get one.

The Wood is already waiting for installation.
Taillight rewired and straight away laid a branch for a trailer option, you never know what you might need it for.
Adjusted exhaust tailpipes

I've only gotten over that too, so my chances of getting a smaller license plate are better, otherwise I have to take a large standard license plate, our registration has no humor, I could change it later if the truck is registered
