Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I did a little more on my truck yesterday. I'm making the pedal assembly attach to under the dash and be strong. I have to fab some brackets. I'm almost done with it. I also cut out the speaker grill, and will fill it later. I'll post some pictures soon.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
You going to lower your truck? I was reading some thread and you seem to know a lot about it. I was just wondering why everyone raises the bed of there truck to hide the compressor. Can't they hide it under the truck somewhere? Had to go check out the posters again could'nt help it.

Here's some I did on newer trucks. The same can be done on the older trucks too. This is what it would look like if you didn't cover it. http://belair.smugmug.com/photos/9301893_ZFADH-M.jpg http://belair.smugmug.com/photos/9298600_PfGka-M.jpg http://belair.smugmug.com/photos/9299452_DtcYk-M.jpg When done you can Line-X the bed. It really finishes it off. http://belair.smugmug.com/photos/9299443_rhDrZ-M.jpg http://belair.smugmug.com/photos/9301891_jCKjE-M.jpg I did a lot of set ups like this one. I did as many as 4 compressors, and 4, 3 gallon air tanks. http://belair.smugmug.com/photos/9301872_ec8k8-M.jpg Here's one I did with 3, 3 gal tanks, and 2 compressors http://belair.smugmug.com/photos/9298589_veoyi-M.jpg Here's one with 2 5 gal tanks, and 3 Big Viar Compressors. http://belair.smugmug.com/photos/9055448_vyxvy-M.jpg And to answer your question. Hell yeah I'm going to bag it. I don't know if I want it to lay frame, but it will be really low. Like my old 56 Belair. This is without notching the frame. http://belair.smugmug.com/photos/12187232_Xknjb-M.jpg |

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I scored a 65 grill today for 27.00 from Pick A Part.
http://belair.smugmug.com/photos/554988237_fSq94-M.jpg Now I have to sell that GMC grill, and those head light buckets I restored. Any takers for the buckets? $60.00 plus shipping and they can be yours. I also have the mounts that attaches them to the grill support. Make me an offer if your interested in the chrome GMC grill. It has some small dents in it but looks good for a driver. http://belair.smugmug.com/photos/508851828_Tkzmp-M.jpg |

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
You are the Man. The more I think about it the more I want to bag it and drag it. When I first bought my truck I did'nt really care for the lowered look now I love it. I talked myself into buying a bolt on notch kit but now I'm thinking I want what's in your pictures. You have to make the notch thing right. I was hoping I could just buy one. I don't think my welding skills are good enough to build that. How do you know what size to make it? :thud:

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Man, I wish I could take a leave of abscense and come out there and learn about lowering. Nice work.:metal:
|
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
ya you want to drag it to huh. It's not to late well maybe it is. That older truck would be the one to drag.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
sorry, i think we got confused.....I was asking about the speaker grill, not the GMC grill.....50 bones plus shipping is a steal on the GMC grill
 |
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
That's why I was wondering, I would love to have the grille and refinished buckets!

I have a 64 Chevy C10. How much did not work? Was it fitment? mounting? could something be fabed up relatively easy? Sorry for the questions.

First off the whole grill stuck out too far with a big space behind it. It looked like crap. I don't know what year GMC it was from, but to make it look better it would take too much fabricating. I looked at a GMC grill support, and it was different from my 65 Chevy support. I rather put my efforts else ware. And there's plenty of them ahead for me. |
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
yeah, it must have something to do with the different years of the GMC's....

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I haven't had much time for my truck, but made some nice progress on the 65 Studebaker Lark. I promise to get more work on mine soon. That's funny I feel guilty because I'm not getting much done because of you guys. Keep up the good work.
The frame is painted with POR-15 and with a BRUSH. It dries really slow, and it looks like powder coating. Beware though. Dirt will settle in it because it drys so slow. I wish I had a paint booth. It still looks great :metal: http://belair.smugmug.com/photos/574569226_ijxfx-XL.jpg I only cleaned and painted to the X Member. That's what the customer wanted. He will have his guys do the rest (He owne's a Body Shop) It took me 3 days to get the frame down to bare metal & prep it before I painted it. http://belair.smugmug.com/photos/574569387_HjxxT-XL.jpg |
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Nice work Dennis....Where is the dirt coming from? Your shop looks to be "eat off the floor clean.."

Looks good.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Nice looking truck Dennis! I noticed the wiper motor mounted on the firewall, is that stock? If not could you elaborate a little on how you went about doing that? I have been wanting to upgrade mine in my 64. Thanks!

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
When other people do it I've noticed they get a lot more paint all over the place. I wounder if you can spray that stuff? Is it to thick?
