Re: Its Gone!!! hit by a DUI
over here in the netherlands salvage title basicly means unfit for road use and total loss .
with that title you can never have a running car again and if you do make it perfect again and have another accident the company whont pay even if it wasnt youre fault cause the car is writen of before basicly you can't use the title no more . over here they done it to prevent people from buying the wrecks steal a simulair car and use the identity of the wreck to give it a clean title , wat they allso did was steal a car and strip it bare and leave the chassis to be found bij the police then they would buy the chassis from the insurance company and use the parts that came of the vehicle to rebuild it like new wat you can do is buy a truck with title that is cheap and rusted and use parts from the totaled one to get it in good order again |
Re: Its Gone!!! hit by a DUI
it depends on the state here. I know in ohio you can buy, sell, and drive a car with a salvage title. You have to go through a little red tape to get the car back on the road, but you can do it.
I think all he wanted the buy back for was the parts anyways. |

Re: Its Gone!!! hit by a DUI
"so what was the initial value the insurance company gave you on the burb? how did you go about getting it readjusted. Im still dealing with the insurance company and they want to offer me 2779 for my 90% restored truck. have reciepts for 8 grand worth of parts not including my labor"
What I did, (Thianks to Board Members Advice). They 1st offered $3900, I said no cant be, I want an appraiser ON SITE to check it out, They said ok, when he arrived 4 days later, I showed receipts etc. (He also was a car nut, but that did'nt help). 1 month later they adjusted by the info I submitted to $4500 WOW $600 increase....DOH. I said no again, they sent it up the ladder to the manager. He reveiwed it with more info(He said he could not find a comparable priced vehicle, I said do you want me to guide you where to look? He laughed and said yes, I told him there is plenty on 67-72chevytrucks.com and I have the 2008 Price Collector, investor, Insurance Guide to Antique vehicles. He then(2 weeks later) Quoted me a value of $9760, I said OK, I want to buy the vehicle back, He then setup an Virtual On-Line Auction to see what the Salvage Scrap would be and after that, told me $225, I said fine I want it back for parts only to do another one in the future. so that is where I am today, I am waiting on the Salvage Title, then they will issue be the $$$$$ to be continued........ |

This to be continued really needs to be followed up with you building a crew cab truck now!:-D:chevy: |
Re: Its Gone!!! hit by a DUI
good to hear at least some things are working in your favor... if I remember right, according to FL laws, once a vehicle has a salvage title, it cannot be put back on the road so if you do find another burb, I have heard of cases where they use the parts and VIN from the other one to make it legal and roadworthy...
either way, good luck from a hour east of Pcola (Niceville, FL) also out of all this thread, there are only 2 working links and the rest are dead Also the news story on the front page of the 67-72chevytrucks.com site are bad as well so Liz may want to look into modifying that story. |

Re: Its Gone!!! hit by a DUI
Well I hate to hear it Jeff but I understand. It may be easier for you to collect what money you can and start over on something else. Got anything in mind?

And on stuff that actually gets driven/towed, all the insurance company has to do is deny liability on the part of their client, and then guess what happens...yep, you are forced to sue out of your own pocket. Happened to me, happened to a good buddy of mine also...insurance is a RACKET. |
Re: Its Gone!!! hit by a DUI
.....that really blows....its too bad he wasn't driving what I hit last winter...I had an old (and I mean OLD) lady pull out in front of my '68 C-10 last winter in her brand new Toyota Prius....I hit her at a little over 35mph...I ended up on the curb with a bent bumper, twisted grill, and completely raped right front fender (and trim).....I lost the sidemarker lens and the brace I had in that fender........her car had turned almost 180 degrees and the whole front end was ripped off and strewn down the street for about a block, the car was leaking fluids all over the place....but she got put onto a flatbed and I started my pickup and drove home...I didn't have seatbelts in the truck yet and if the car had been bigger and my steering wheel had been smaller I would've been somewhere down the street too...........but anyway...she had full coverage and was at fault so I got $2,030 out of the truck (which I kept) that I paid about $700 for...

Re: Its Gone!!! hit by a DUI
Is the burb still complete, and how much are you asking for it at the moment? I have an almost identical '72 (but 3/4 and barn doors). I'd be interested in buying it.
Thanks, Scott |

The guy has made 1 payment (in March) and has skipped town the Probation Officer said. so maybe(doubt it) on day things will go my way. Now just drooling thanks!!!! Jeff Smith Pensacola, FL |

Re: Its Gone!!! hit by a DUI
never did trust insurance companies like you said they prommise a lot and dont deliver , make sure those promises are in writing and sighned and if its worth it have the item insured validated yearly by a licenced validator
the only insurance i have is basic car insurance to pay for damage i make to the other party and a insurance for when i need a lawyer in a civil case to get my money if it isnt my fault , there are ways to have that done by youre insurance but there not trying real hard if sumting like this happens : friend of mine had someone drive intoo his brand new beamer , it turned out the guilty party responsible was insured by the same company he was , it made for some verry interesting wiggling from told insurancecompany to get from under the claim and a raise in the premium on the insurance of the NON guilty party , a non biased lawyer wouldve been verry helpfull in that |
Re: Its Gone!!! hit by a DUI
too bad its too late to get some parts off that guy that parting a rust free burb......it was the same mustard yellow too!

if the town can't get it's rear in gear, talk to your congressman!
there are a lot of car friendly people in the political world. and SEMA is very involved in every state, too! just because these are old vehicles with low blue book value does not give insurance companies the right to screw you over. they are rare and collectible and that @$$ wrecked one of the cleanest examples around. do not give up, and don't junk your burb....it must have a lot of good parts on it, or maybe you could find a donor that is descent enough to make patch panels out of. much of the lower sheet metal is available aftermarket including burb tail light area patches. if this had happened to me, i'd be in everybody's face until my truck was good as new. this wasn't an accidental fender bender out on the road, this guy seriously messed up and he needs to pay. i think the next 10 years.....12 hours work plus 6 hours community service on top of that, seven days a week...yeah, that's a good start!!! oh...maybe restoring your truck could be a future feature on Trucks (Powerblock).....they are taking project ideas from the audience......enter online.....just an idea..... |

Re: Its Gone!!! hit by a DUI
wow, it's been a while since I checked back in on this thread. What a heart breaker. It makes the demise of my truck under similar circumstances seem like a petty annoyance:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=366796 Incidentally I'm out about $4000 when all is said and done. I estimate that I may be able to salvage about $2000 on what I put into it. Insurance paid me $1100 in the end including the medical portion. That's about what I paid fighting the city over the "violation" - so that means I know how you feel on a much smaller scale. My favorite part was one of my know-nothing friends had this to say when I was telling them about it recently: "Well, I guess it's for the better anyway - can't have that gas guzzler around when fuel is going to be $5/gal.", and he was serious. Really? In the end the guy with the old truck minding his own business is the one that gets screwed. |
Re: Its Gone!!! hit by a DUI
I am trying to figure out how to get this 72 burb just posted to replace mine:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/c...-deluxe&cat=12 as always I am sure it will be gone before I can grab it..But I will keep trying! Jeff Smith Pensacola, FL |
