Re: AJ's '72 Cruiser Crawler Build
UPDATE 5/28/11: Big ticket items. Mr Brown dropped off a couple more big ticket items recently. Spent some time at the shop today getting my radiator installed and my fuel cell test fitted. A nice bit of progress today.
Entropy Radiator. Aluminum, two row, 1" rows. Designed for a 67-72. Includes the dual Spal fans and the shroud. http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/albu...0469.sized.jpg Talk about laying a nice bead. That some welding right there. http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/albu...0470.sized.jpg Hot Rod Dynamics radiator cover fit smooth over the Entropy Radiator. No adjustments needed. Was kinda weird, others who'd tried this combo had some minor fitment issues. http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/albu...0475.sized.jpg 20 gallon EFI fuel cell from Fuelcellguy here on the forum. Really nicely made. http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/albu...0471.sized.jpg Sits as high up as possible for maximum ground clearance. Doesn't hang down much for a 20 gallon tank. http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/albu...0479.sized.jpg Finished up my crossover steering. http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/albu...0477.sized.jpg Final fit on the fuel cell's next, then time to start plumbing. |

Re: AJ's '72 Cruiser Crawler Build
UPDATE 9/4/11 - Fuel Lines. Been slowly collecting AN fittings, hose, and tubing to plumb the truck. Finally found some time to get the fuel lines run. I'm going with -8AN supply and -6AN return.
Bent some aluminum tubing down the length of the frame for the hard lines. Supported about every 13" - 14". Used padded tube clamps and made up some spaces to get them off the frame rail. http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/albu...0742.sized.jpg Mallory fuel filter. Short run of Aeroquip braided stainless from the tank. http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/albu...0743.sized.jpg Engine side. Need to make a small bracket that will attach to the top bolt of the water pump. It'll hold a tubing separator to keep the lines in place. http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/albu...0744.sized.jpg Tranny cooler and power steering lines are next when I can find time. |
Re: AJ's '72 Cruiser Crawler Build
Is their a certain reason why youre running the fuel lines away from the frame rail?

Re: AJ's '72 Cruiser Crawler Build
4/21/14 - This build still exists?! Yes, actually it does... Getting back down to business.
Even though I haven't fired up the motor, I decided it needed a bigger cam. Pull the motor and dropped in a Lunati Voodoo and put on a new set of roller rockers. http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/albu...1234.sized.jpg http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/albu...1353.sized.jpg Sold off the Edelbrock MPFI...changed my mind here too. It was an older system and decided I wanted to go with one of the new self learning setups. So.... next came an Edelbrock dual plane manifold. Motor went back in go back in and then start putting this stuff on... http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/albu...1365.sized.jpg http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/albu...1384.sized.jpg Dropped on the throttle body. This thing is dead sexy if I do say so myself. Added the throttle cable bracket and set the TV cable on the tranny. http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/albu...1397.sized.jpg Mounted up the regulator. The pressure gauge (not shown) is a little closer to the frame than I'd like, need to tweak it a bit. http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/albu...1400.sized.jpg Plumbing is almost done. Changing out my supply line to -6 from -8 next. Waiting on parts from Summit. Those with a good eye might notice the rig has changed locations. Bought a new house with a <cough cough> three car garage. http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/albu...1138.sized.jpg |
Re: AJ's '72 Cruiser Crawler Build
Looks good, glad to see your getting back into it.....nice to have your own workshop. I think youll like the fast system, have you logged into their website?

Spent quite a bit of time on cpgnation researching the FAST system. I'm sure I'll be on there more once I get the motor turned over. |

Seems like grounds are the main culprit on the install, keep us posted on the install.... |

truck sounds awesome, glad to see you back on track with your project!

Re: AJ's '72 Cruiser Crawler Build
Nothing sounds like a big block AJ.
|
Re: AJ's '72 Cruiser Crawler Build
Thanks guys. Haven't done the exhaust yet. It's open headers and crazy loud. Still working through a few bugs and leaks here and there. Nothing unexpected on a new engine build.
|
Re: AJ's '72 Cruiser Crawler Build
Congrats on your build progress AJ.
If I may ask, what made you choose the FAST 2.0 over the base model? |

Re: AJ's '72 Cruiser Crawler Build
Why did you take the roll bar out?
|
Re: AJ's '72 Cruiser Crawler Build
It was nothing more than a show bar. PO had painted the silver OVER chrome. I'll bend up a Hickey style bar at some point.
|
Re: AJ's '72 Cruiser Crawler Build
Bummer about the trans. Looks like it picked a good spot to break down tho. Nothing like Buccee's!
|
Re: AJ's '72 Cruiser Crawler Build
Sorry about the trans. Got a question about the heater hoses, what fittings did use for the heater box. Did you braze a fitting on, or use a compression fitting?
Exhaust looks sweet |

Hadn't finished the heater yet. Was going to be a winter project. I just looped the inside hose from the inlet right back to the outlet. Firewall fittings are a -10AN male bulkhead to a 1/2 NPT female fitting. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/aer-fbm2823/overview/ ....then threaded in a 1/2 NPT nipple into it on the interior side. |

12/10/22 Back from the dead update
Life happens. Got divorced. Got remarried. Kids are in high school now. K5 got mothballed for a couple of years here and there. Driven it here and there, put it in a few shows. FINALLY have time, and $$, to make progress on it. Big things planned over the next year have been put in motion. Here's how the K5 sits today: https://ck5.com/forums/media/4.42152/full My son and I spent some time in PHX hatching an evil plan with Dan Hogan https://ck5.com/forums/media/2.42151/full Meanwhile... If you followed the body mount post, it led to a discussion with Art Morrison about this... https://ck5.com/forums/media/5resize.42153/full AND.... here's where we're going with it all... https://ck5.com/forums/media/4-resize.42154/full Stay tuned.... |
