We've been working on the rad mount a little. Sectioned a few feet of 3"x1/8" sq. tubing to make a top/bottom channel and used 1/4" and 3/4" strips of rubber as isolators. Tacked it all in place, ran the tranny cooler lines, and then pulled it off to weld up.

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Question; How many holes in all:lol: anyways, fu**in sweet build, and that thin is goin to be a beast! the only thing thats gonna suck is that if you want to change a battery out or if one goes dead, ur gonna have to rip the whole bed off, unless you installed a plate that pulls off form the bed floor? just an idea to ponder about. what are your plans for the interior, especiallly in the ext> cab part. Sweet stereo, or what? ill tell yah one thing though, after goin muddin its going to be a ***** to get all the mud out from those holes:lol:

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
I was looking at your fan and radiator... I know you are building a custom shroud, but have you considered a high mount water pump? There is a C60 sitting at work with a 454 that has this style pump on it since the radiator sits so high in the truck and the engine sits so low. Might be something to look at

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Hmm... If I would have realized those were available sooner then we probably would have gone that route and made a few things easier... Thanks for sharing that! But we will probably just stick with the one we have for now.

Well I stopped by our body guy's place and dropped some rockers off for him to play with. Snapped some pics and BS'ed for a little while. We've both been busy with other things, but now that I'm starting to save a little money up I'm getting my head back into it. I'm really anxious to get this dang cab back!!!
I'll post some pics of the progress soon. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Very cool. I know these projects take a lot of time and money. It is a long road but well worth it in the end!

His school started back up Wed., and it's Fri. night now...we won't get anything outta him for another day or two at least:lol:
Let me see if I can pick up the slack... Progress is slow :waah:, but we kinda knew that stepping into this. We're finding areas that need attention as our buddy works through grafting the cabs together...so far only the rear cab corners and rockers are needing much. |

The dash has been fit in, still needs a lot of work...but we can see it coming together.
The scallop at each corner will let us fit the front down legs of the cage forward and tight against the a-pillar. Shouldn't loose any leg/knee room :metal: Rear corners of the main cab cleaned up nice. |
Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Very nice!

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab

Can you send a picture of how you mounted the wires off the distributor? Looks clean. |

Not really bud... it's pretty much at a stand still waiting on the body. But my birthday is just around the corner and my dad told me he knew where some parts were I might be interested in. So after suffering through an hour or two of looking at patio furniture we headed over to an old friend of my dad's place where these parts were. Turned out to be a complete (mostly still in the box) Vintage Air system!! :metal: He had tons of little parts and pieces we looked through and we picked up a few of them like the air controls out of a 63 and another set of controls that might work instead (no idea what they are from) Then we went to look at a 62 he had in his driveway and noticed it had a brand new Guage insert with the exact guages I have wanted, so he popped it out for us. All said and done we ended up with all the stuff for about a third of what just the a/c system cost!!!! Needless to say, I'm super excited!

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Thanks everyone for the support! Things have been going real slow for awhile. I've gotten some small things done like brake lines and I ran all the wires for a trailer plug and rear lights. The cab is coming together, we got the inner skin cut and fit together and the drivers door hung. It's definitely starting to pick up again!

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Just found your build here and after three hours I feel it was a very brief scan though such a great and in depth build, WOW will have to sum it up for me because you and your father have rendered me speechless.
Very nice work and a life time of cherish able memories for you and your father. This is much more than a truck the two of you are building it is a legacy some what a passing of the torch “a passing of knowledge and skill from father to son. Very cool I will defiantly have to spend some more time here to better absorb what has been done and keep up with what is to come. Thank you for sharing this. |
Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
