Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Talked to the shipping company about 30 minutes ago. They found it..... still sitting on the dock in California!! :banghead:
So I called the shipping guy at Rancho Recycling and explained everything to him. I told him I don't think either one of us should be paying for shipping for this deal. He agreed. He is going to talk to his boss and they will get back to me. Not that I am in a real hurry to get it here, but I'm a stickler on doing what you say you are going to do. This is all on the shipping company, and I'm in no way upset at Rancho. They did their job. But on our weird family schedule, trying to figure out when I need to take the truck and trailer to work, while shuffling around the kids, is sort of a pain. OK, I'm off my :m5: box now. It's out of character for me! |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Wow, that sux! At least it isn't in Eastern Tamaroon :)
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
That's the kind of stuff you need to rant about. So many places now don't care about customer service.
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Eastern Tamaroon :haha:
Just got off the phone with the shipping company, again. They say it is on the dock in Denver and will be delivered today! On another note; Fred went on a 385 mile trip this weekend to Steamboat Springs and back. The truck ran flawlessly over Cameron Pass (10,276' elevation) and Rabbit Ears Pass (9426' elevation). Between the new steering gear, the new shocks, and the "new" seat, it was a blast to drive. Even my wife on the way home said it was so comfy to be in that it would make a great road trip vehicle. :D Didn't track mileage, but based off past fill-ups, it probably averaged around 14-15. And now, the obligatory pictures: http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...c/DSCF0005.jpg http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...c/DSCF0021.jpg http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...c/DSCF0022.jpg http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...c/DSCF0024.jpg http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...c/DSCF0025.jpg |

Beautiful Country!!!

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
I love it in Colorado! Except for the rattle snakes, don't care for those. Never have.
Good news, engine and trans is here!!!! There are a couple things missing, like the top cover and the yoke off of the driveshaft. But I'll get everything out tonight and see what's not there and let them know. They said they would ship out anything that was not there that should have been. On another note, I decided against the LS1 intake. After talking to Roger Vinci of Vinci Performance (camshaft maker) and Thunder Racing, I decided it would put me three steps back. I knew I would lose a little bottom end by going to the LS1 intake, but after some more research and talking to these guys, this would actually be the worst intake to use. I want bottom end, I'm not trying to max out RPM's and HP. The LS1 is the worst at making low end torque. So the best bet is to use the truck intake, followed by the LS6 intake. I don't want to spend the extra couple hundred for an LS6 intake, so I'll stick with the truck intake and try to make it look better. Plus, I don't really want to go to a 2600+ rpm converter. So since my plan was to build a reliable hot rod that runs hard AND gets great fuel mileage, I'll stick to the truck intake. Later I'll still probably do a cam and converter, but I'll probably continue use the truck intake, unless I find a smoking deal on an LS6 intake. But by that point, the truck will take on a whole other purpose. |

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
beautiful pictures Bob. Fred looks right at home w/ the view in the back ground! congrats on the new arrival!!! now wheres the pics??;) did everything arrive safe and undamaged? (besides the missing covers) if theres anything i can do on this end just let me know. i'm only a few miles away...

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Great pics.
I think you can make the truck intake look very good. The 6.0 caddy's and SS silverado's came with a 3 piece engine cover. Here are two pics.... http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...0000000002.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...0000000001.jpg Just something to consider :chevy: |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Sweet, I like the Vortec Max cover. Might have to look for one of those.
Everything arrive damage-free! :metal: I am missing or need a few minor things, they should be able to get them to me OK. I pretty much got everything striped down to where I can separate the tranny and get the engine on the stand. I have the harness off and in the trunk with the PCM ready to send to Jessee to get reworked. Over the next week or two I'll get the engine detailed, and get the tranny detailed too. I've got a few things I still need to figure out, like finding the correct manifolds for the AC compressor. I might try Vintage Air or Old Air to see if they can hook me up. There was no fan in the engine, so I need to see if it had a fan that they pulled off, or if there were elec fans. Since it is a truck, I imagine it had a fan on the engine. I'll see what they say, maybe they can get me a pair of electric fans. ** Note to self... have the PCM set up for elec fans. I have a lot of pics I'll post up in the morning. I need to get a snack, then get in the shower. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
can't wait, nothing beats fresh new pics :mm:
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Sounds good man. Glad to hear it arrived.
I would go with elec fans. That's a good note taker yourself has. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
I likey the Vortec Max cover. that would be awsome to pop the hood on a C10 and see the purrrrty red lettering.. lol

OK, here is some pics: Loaded up and ready to go home. Wow, I really need to lower the rear some! I want it to look something like this when I'm done detailing it:
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
sweet! progress!! are you gonna run a stand alone type harness or are you gonna modify the trucks existing harness and integrate the two? can't wait to see
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Cool!!!

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
What year is that engine? '05 and later should have electric fans.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
stand alone? are you having the factory harness modified or are you doing it yourself? I want to do that with my 71 when I convert to the 6.0
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
That will look good detailed like that. Can't wait to see it done man. The hard part is done, shelling out the $$. Now it's time to play.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
I forgot to add- you are making awesome progress. I am hoping to beg some more to get an old friend to be able to come home (78 Jimmy), but not sure on that yet. I will have to get a lot done, then post a build thread so it won't look so bad next to yours. Seriously though, it's threads like all of these build threads that remind me why we all are here. It's really cool to see everyone's opinions and progress being put out here.
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Hey we can start a Jonboy needs his friend back thread. Let the wife see it, and maybe it will convince her to let it come home. :D
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
I don't know how that would work. When I look at it at home, she calls it "truck porn". You know, she may be right.
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Yeah I tell my wife that too. I ask her which she would rather have me looking at. The truck porn always wins.

Once the engine and trans are detailed and ready to go in, progress will slow dramatically. Except for maybe rebuilding the front suspension, new springs for the rear and lowering. I want to be able to drive it as long as possible before I tear it down. So once the snow starts flying I'll start pulling it apart. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
let it snow.. let it snow.. let it snooooowww.. lol gonna be cool. that doesnt seem bad at all to make the harness standalone and program :metal:

AWESOME!!
looks really clean Bob! yea, when you call rancho just tell them you want the 3 piece cover since they left out the 1 piece. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
That sounds like a smokin' deal on the harness and PCM tune. Can you PM me his info so I can do the same for my swap?
Cheers, Ed |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
I think I would go with the red too. It would really match Fred very well.

I'm trying Dennis, I'll have to see what they say or what I get! I think the red would look good too, even if it's *cough* F*rd red..... |
