Re: '49 chevy with s-10

Read through your thread, great work! Any progress since May? Love the fat boy too, and what year is the monte drag car? My DD is an 06 SS. Recently picked up a 48 with an s10 chassis, needs some work yet. Have a few questions for you if you have the time.

What kit did you use for your drop spindles and rotors on the front? Also, know the backspacing of your wheels? I'm looking at running some 20x8.5 with 5.229'' backspacing in the front, looking at yours I would think they should fit no problem, maybe small spacers?
Also what steering linkage parts did you purchase? looks really clean. In the area, do the headers provide more clearance than stock manifolds would on the passenger side?
Last what is rear backspacing on wheels and axle length? Would like to run a 9'' as well for the durability, but not sure on the length, looking at 20x10 wheels with 6.225'' back spacing in the rear.

Know this is a lot of questions and hope I didn't miss anything that is already answered, but really like the way you have done all of these things, and just hoping to avoid any mistakes or problems along my way.
Thanks!

Re: '49 chevy with s-10

Thanks. I always said that I would eventually paint it green and we got so far into it that there wasn't much patina left:lol: so only thing left to do was start spraying.

BlueJeep - glad you didn't paint your motor green... just kidding looks pretty good. I will say that in the end our trucks will look totally different.

nice work so far. looking good. not a color I would pick but it looks good on there.very clean looking.
dunno if you have done this or not and it depends on the engine mount style you have, BUT, if your engine mounts happen to come apart during a full throttle application you could be in trouble due to the steering column shaft going through your headers. could make a slight damp spot in the rear of your pants along with a foul odor in the cab if you lose steering at that point. seen motor mounts fail before, just saying. back in the day we used a length of chain from the motor to the frame, with a bit of slack built into the engineering, so if the motor tore the mounts it stayed relatively in the same spot. that may be tacky now though, lol.

Great to see this build pop back up....This has always been one of my favorites. Did you powder coat or paint the wheels? They look great.

Thanks for the advice on the header deal. Also the color is a mix of the original color and some green we came up with. I have had the typical black / red hot rods in the past and wanted something different. Just see alot of the "standard" colors when out cruising / car shows.

Thanks man... the wheels are powder coated. I have all the other bolt on parts out to the powder coater also. So it will eventually be all black and green.

Thanks. The whole truck will eventually be the same color with all black grill, bumpers, emblems, etc. As for the green it is a mix of the original green we came up with. ;)

Wow, great attention to detail. I really like how you have the tinted bed liner on the underside of your cab.

Thanks man.... the bag mounts are welded in solid and split the frame so they are reinforced. I didn't box my frame as the weight of this truck it is over kill in my opinion. I have friends that boxed the frame and for just cruising you dont need to.
