Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Finally got around to getting a couple days to putter away at the crew cab. Been so damn cold here for the past couple months haven't felt like doing anything at all.
Managed to get the carpet set into the cab, basic trimming for now till everything is installed, and around 6 hours of massaging it with a steam iron to get it to fit half assed decent. To begin with I didn't think I was going to keep it being it fit so terrible, but with some patience and a few beers....doesn't look too terribly bad now. Hope it will settle in some more as the heat gets to it. Also started putting in the trim pieces tonight and drilling holes for them all as this truck was a bare steel cab with no trim what so ever. Going to have to customize the front pillar pieces to adhere with the shape of the new dash, but I think I have it figured. Might tackle it tomorrow.... ..anyways, pics. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psea391bb7.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps12da8759.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps15e8c7bc.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps5f783ccd.jpg |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
nice work man! killer project
|
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Nice progress...
|
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Thanks...been a bit of a slow process, but slow but sure.
Have an idea for the headliner, but not 100% sure as of yet. Going to take all my vintage licence plates and mould them to the shape of the headliner steel, then put them on with moulding tape and licence plate screws on the final layer that is visible. Hoping this will secure them appropriately and also take care of any vibrations. Time will tell... |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Finally got the final proof from the magazine today. Missed the issue all together myself...must have had a brain fart somewhere along the line. Anyways, thought it was kind of cool and should add it to the build thread.
And a big thanks to Second Skin products for a great product...loved using this stuff. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psff7739b0.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psa467e615.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps562d7f6d.jpg |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Pretty cool!! Keep going on it!

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Started making progress on the interior parts...
Began fabricating/modifying the stock A pillar trim to retrofit to the 59 Impala dash as it sits a bit lower and the contours are a bit different. I'd like to say I got this first try, but that would be a lie. Passenger side was first crack at the cat, drivers side.....not so much. Took me 3 strikes before the fourth time was a charm. Plastic kept snapping or I'd get it to hot with the heat gun to get it to shape to the door frame better (OCD kicking in BIG TIME). Worst enemy ever! Anyways..pics! http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psec2eb2e2.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psc4adbfaa.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps005903ca.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...pse899cdb7.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps8e8a996d.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psfef0fe2b.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psba12b982.jpg Then took the plunge and ran with what I had in my head...was undecided at first but glad I went the route I did now. I get that this will not sit well with some, and some will love it. Way it goes...the option was cheap, available, and a challenge (kind of like my first girlfriend...) Staying with the shop truck/borderline rat rod truck theme and liked others I had seen with similar attributes. Besides, if I get sick of it and ever find a mint headliner...I can just swap it in overtop or remove the plates. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps8ba8baf5.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps929084ab.jpg |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Started to brain storm on the overhead console and give myself a break from doing sound deadening and wiring etc. This is what I have come up with so far. Was going to use the factory square body overhead console, but lets be honest....not the prettiest things out there. So took a few pieces from an 88-98, a few from a 90s blazer, and some other stuff and used an extra speedo housing I had from another Impala dash. Put it all together and wahla.
I had to cut out the portion with the garage door opener and move the map light section rearward, then allow enough room for the Impala pod to look right. Thing takes up some serious real estate. Anways, far from done but only have around 4 hours or so into it in total so far. Will work at it again tomorrow night and see how far I get. Going to get painted to match the interior (tan). http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps947c959f.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psfecb94fa.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psecd43927.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps67bc0193.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...pscbcff62a.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps94b625b9.jpg |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
cool!
what will be going into the biggest opening? tach? |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Yes, gonna be a 5" tach to match my dash gauges from classic industries. In the process of deciding going custom or generic off the shelf as we speak. Throwing ideas back and forth with them last couple of months.

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Spent the better part of today finishing up some fiberglass work, mounting and trimming to fit around all the plates (had to of done it 50 bloody times..lol), and now going to get a thin cotton coat of fiberglass over the main body, then smooth it out and get it ready for high build.
Want to try and run the wiring tomorrow...going to atttempt to get it through the A pillar. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psf452f344.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...pse04fee70.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps689203e8.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps8f893296.jpg |

NICE....great tip. Wonder if I can make that work from center to the A pillar too....lmao. Gonna try!
Thanks. |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Well, lots accomplished this week for a change.
Got my gauges all dialled in to what I wanted and decided on a company to purchase from (Classic Instruments), went with an old "stewart warner" style looking gauge. Kind of giving it the look of the old muscle cars/hot rods I guess. That and they match the heater controls etc. Should look alright when said and done. Also got the doors in the booth, coat of epoxy primer, sealer and high build on the outside. Inners are painted the white, but outside going to block out on the truck and paint when I get a few other things on the cab completed and ready for paint, then give the whole cab a final coat of white. All things considered with the new paint guns I bought were being "temperamental" and just right out making my life a living hell while painting....they look pretty decent. Still considering swapping to the 74 front clip...but will probably save that for next winter project. Will see..... Overhead console is primed with high build, just have to fix a few pin holes and should be ready for paint early in the week. Gauge pods for the dash are roughed out and high build primed as well, still sitting in the booth flashing off so I can bring them home tomorrow and sand them out. They also should be ready for paint early in the week. Just in time for the new gauges to show up around Friday. Ordered up my door parts/weather strip kits for all four doors from LMC tonight as well. Productive week, but can't wait to at least get most of this interior buttoned up now. List seems endless!..... http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps506e3e74.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps22626689.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps828eee51.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps294e867d.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psba777a95.jpg |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
wow, that overhread console looks killer dude!
|
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Thanks.......appreciate it.
Hoping it all works out as planned. Should be in paint by tomorrow....errr, this morning. Up late having a few comfort drinks...lol. Hoping to be in shape to throw some tint at them in around 6 hours or so. Can't wait to get one more thing polished off the list. |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Build is awesome
|
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Still flashing off the last coat here, will dull/flatten out like the dash when all said and done. Turned out pretty well actually. Went back to my trusty cheap ass HVLP and as usual never lets me down.

I'm going to find some Alberta plates for your headliner to mix things up a bit!!
Painting is looking good! |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Lmao there are a couple hidden in there....believe me.

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Got my buddy over to do some additional stripping before the gauges show up. Just wanted to tie in with the dash....

I am not big on pinstriping in these cars, but damn looks good in your dash!

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Glad to see another Manitoba square body! truck looks sweet

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
I noticed u were looking for info on wheels. I know U don't wanna go that big. But I'm currently running 8 lug 24s. They are 24x10 with +30mm offset. Not sure on back spacing. But they fit nice up under fenders. I currently dropped the back. Still gotta do the front. Hope this helps. And if u don't mind me asking how did u drop yours?

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
I used bell tech drop spindles and cut a couple coils, wish I had of left a half coil more and will be ordering coils soon before she is done.
I might have a line on 22x12 smoothies and only going narrow up front. If I have to go 20s, my options are 8.5" wide with either 5" or 6" back spacing. How much back spacing do your fronts have?? |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
I'm not real sure on back spacing. I've got 24x10 all the way around. With +30mm offset.
|
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
I'm thinking like a 6" backspace? Maybe. I'm not sure how to determine that
|
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
The pin striping is sweet!

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Thanks guys....appreciate the comments. And ya, FID (painter) has some serious talent. Has had quite a few custom paint jobs in a ton of cycle magazines. Good friend that shares the custom culture mindset. There will be a bit more once I get the interior together....door panels n such.
As for wheels if yours are 6" back spacing, how is your frame to tire clearance? And overall tire width/height? Appreciate the help. |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
I'm running a 275-30-24 tire. Which comes to 10.83" wide and a overall diameter of 30.5" tall. I'll get some pictures of the tire to frame clearance tomorrow.
|
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Quote:
BS measure from the outside of the rim to the mounting surface. A 10" wheel is 11" wide from outside to outside. The +30mm is 1.18" toward the outside from the center of the wheel. So, 1/2 the wheel width (5.5") plus the offset (1.18") equals the back space (6.68") BTW - the dash is really coming together. Can't wait to see the rest of the interior completed. |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Yea I figured it was around there. I was close lol. Thanks for the info on that aggie91

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Appreciate the pics, was more curious about the front when turning etc. I am narrowing my rear diff down to around 58" and running a 12" wide wheel out back with 4.5" bs.
