Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Well i can tell you from expierence that on a 64-66 with the stainless trim I have seen glass guy's try to insert the windshield into the trim slot in the rubber more then once....The old school guys get it. But some of the newer glass guy's get confused with all the slots in the rubber....Infact I once watched a glass guy try to reverse the rubber and put the outside in the inside...Good job for doing all the research and setting yourself up for a easy install....thats awesome....glad it all worked out for you

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
That 351 with a TBI will be a torque monster for sure. A perfect candidate for some 2.73 or 3.00 gears. The 4 spd will almost be a requirement now to handle the torque of that engine.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Yeah man, I'm really excited about dropping that 351 in next winter!
Here is a victory pic of the windshield install: http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...psfe56ccbe.jpg |
Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Finally got the passenger side quarter window frame prepped and painted. Also squeezed in some time to prime the floor area that is being kept. I will be replacing the toe boards and rockers this next winter.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
It's costing me a lot of money to get the quarter windows back in so unfortunately all the other little things I want to accomplish are getting pushed back.
The gasket set for one side of windows is $209! I got a quote yesterday to have new windows cut for the sides and it looks like they are going to be around $70 a piece. That's $280 a side for windows and $209 a side for gaskets = $489 per side. Damn. I didn't want to spend that much on just windows, but I guess I haven't really got a choice. I could re-use about 6 of 8 original windows but they are foggy and de-laminating and it would suck to spend that much on gaskets and put the old windows back in. |

This is looking fantastic. What a great ride

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Cort, looks like you have a fine ride there and are taking the time to do it right.
Where did you buy your side window gaskets from? I need to replace mine, fortunately for me the glass is in good shape. Except for the driver side door, it's cracked. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
I got the quarter window seals from Steele rubber.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Exciting things today!
Well, starting yesterday anyways. I was on my home from work and swung by this fabric supply shop just for kicks to see what was going on in there. Digging through their bolts of vinyl, I found a sweet vintage pattern that looked like it belonged in our trucks as the headliner. Unfortunately it was a pale pink color. Haha. So, I bought 3 yards of it anyways and today I started installing it with an 1/8" foam backer for padding into my suburban. I spray painted it the same color that the rest of the interior is and all I can say is... well, look at the pics and you tell me what you think! http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps5688b6f8.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps4c1827d3.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps1bd4918e.jpg Looks freaking awesome to me! And factory! |

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
That looks very good in there.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
That looks really fantastic! What kind of substrate are you using under the foam? Or are you mounting it all straight to the roof?

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Straight to the roof my friend. I am a little worried about when it is sitting in the sun, but since I live in the NW, it doesn't see that much anyway. We'll see how it holds up.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
After reviewing everything I have to put back together on the Suburban before May, and realizing how much it is going to cost to do that, I decided to save a few bucks that I would try and tackle my own upholstery.
I knew it wouldn't turn out perfect and this is only meant to get me by until I have real upholstery done (I'll remember these words 10 years from now, haha) but I think it turned out ok. I couldn't find and silver vinyl at the store so I used this neutral color and haven't decided if I'll spray paint it silver or just leave it. What do you guys think? Not too bad for my first time ever sewing upholstery: http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...pse00e8e58.jpg |
Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Accomplished things today!
I went to a local classic truck shop and bought the window channel I needed to finish re-building my windows and while I was there I found two clip style wheels that I have been looking for forever! I bought those up fast and I am really excited about them because now I can finish repairing/painting my factory style hubcaps and get those installed now that I have all 4 clip style wheels. I also put the re-upholstered jumper seat in and installed one window. Old and New http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps588e6d99.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps8c2f6d35.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps161cd5d1.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps8055c1ca.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps2b6faef1.jpg And my score for the day. Pretty funny that they're the same color combo as my burb. http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps50b6db18.jpg |

What do you guys think? Not too bad for my first time ever sewing upholstery: I have a tear in my bench, when can I drop it by ;) Looking great, better than some of the originals I recall sitting on :mm: |

Haha! Thanks man.
When I get better at it, I'll give you a shout.;) |
Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Got the drivers seat back upholstered this morning. I tried a new method of stitching and the corners came out waaay better than the first seat.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Got the drivers bench in yesterday and today drove it around the block! Oh man, what a difference in comfort from the old busted seat that was in there.
Comments please! (Except about the floor boards...those are next winter. Haha) http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps2d39e363.jpg And a shot of the rebuilt and freshly painted seat frame http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...psa51177d0.jpg |

I had the same floor boards in my 49’ GMC long bed….. they came in real handy at the Foster Street Drive Inn Theater. :haha: All I needed was a funnel & 20” of hose w/case of Oly’ and I was set for a double feature |
Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Took her out for her first drive this year. Couldn't wait to finish all the windows. Haha.
At this point I'm having a really hard time liking the black wheels with white hubcaps. I wish I had the chrome ones. I don't know what to do. If I paint them white then the whole tire will appear white, if I paint them body color I'll probably have to have paint mixed for something that will match. Ideas? http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps6e9cf65a.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps248e783f.jpg |
