:waah:Gave up waiting for my bags thought I would put my cab on and do my radiator stuff.:uhmk: When you use the s10 frame the radiator hits the gear box so you have to mod the bracket that holds it and use a different radiator. Not sure which radiator I'm going to use? Also had to trim my inner fenders to clear some stuff. Not sure if I cut them enough. I guess I'll find out when I get my bags on. Figured out stock s10 rim don't fit with my spindles for some reason. I guess I need more of an offset. Good enough for now they just don't go on all the way.

I found this radiator. Its the right size but it says engine oil cooler. Could this also be used as a trans'mission cooler?

ekstensive aka "brothers" They said I could have it cheap not fast. I should have had my bags by now though. I guess they are going to ship it all together. Not as if I don't have stuff to work on. Need to get my engine so I can see how to mount it. I'm thinking I'll be cutting my floor boards. The Iron Duke. Least it has a name, maybe someday it will have a thread.

Filled a bunch of holes. Welded a bunch of cracks in my fenders. Stripped one front fender and painted it to look like the other old one. Turned out better than I hoped. Not done yet.

Got my bags and cups. Have no idea what the brackets/otherthings are for?:smoke: Picked up a radiator. I'm thinkiing I'll need to get the outlet on the bottom rewelded to make it come out straight. Mounted my front cab mounts to my cab need to weld a piece of metal across the back suport before I can mount the rear one.:uhmk: Gave the ok on getting my engine work done. Still need a trans. I have a 350 and a 400 but I'm thinking a 700 would get better gas milage. Maybe a 2 for one deal.

Thanks Jeff.:metal: I did notice the back cap measurments should be 3.5 x 4. Nothing a cutting wheel could'nt handle. They worked great.

Re: Daverods 52

They are for relocating your shocks. But on our suspension you might not need them. It would depend on how much your going to drop it.

Re: Daverods 52

:mm:thanks Dennis. I'll have to take a better look tonight. Both the brackets and the wing nut lookin things are for the shocks?

MrDude_1 04-27-2011 03:12 PM

Re: Daverods 52

the original shocks were inside the springs.
obviously they dont fit there when you put airsprings in their place.
so the shock is relocated to the outside edge of the control arm.
the long part goes onto the frame and the top of the shock bolts to it.
im not postitive on the "wingnut wings", but they look kinda like the lower shock mount with bushings. i wouldnt be surprised if they fit inside the stock lower arm for bracing... you wouldnt use them in that case.. you also wouldnt use the lower cups.

as far as the shock mounts, I would look carefully at both the shock clearing the frame under travel, and the tire clearing the shock when turned at lock. if you're running larger wheels, you may want to recess the shock into the frame slightly so you dont lose turning clearance.

Re: Daverods 52

On these trucks the shocks are mounted outside of the springs.

Re: Daverods 52

Wrong crossmember Dennis, that's for a c10. remember he's using a s10.

MrDude_1 04-27-2011 04:01 PM

Re: Daverods 52

oddly enough though, where the shock meets the LCA on that pic is very similar to how you would be mounting it to the S10 arm.

Duh, Sorry I stand corrected. :uhmk::uhmk:

It's OK we know, your old.:waah:: You still know a lot about s10's. You do still remember all that stuff right.:lol: Coolest old guy I know.

Re: Daverods 52

I'm thinking the wing nut things might weld on to the arms.

ruffrida2005 04-27-2011 07:42 PM

Re: Daverods 52

yeah it might just weld to it. what I've seen some people do is either bolt the stud or weld it to the lca.

You still not get your rear kit yet? I've been messing with my rear bars, but I'm need to know where the bag sits on yours.

About to update pics of my truck.

Strodder 04-27-2011 09:33 PM

Re: Daverods 52

I used to drill a hole in the lower arm, and weld a plate to reinforce where the bolt goes through. Even if the special shock bolt is welded in, it will crack the metal on the arm around the bolt. :uhmk:
BTW Thanks Dave. Why are you being so nice??? What do you want?? :haha:

How much time do you get to work on your trucks every week? Your rockin'!

daverod 04-28-2011 09:43 AM

Re: Daverods 52

Couple hours a day, 4 to 6 on the weekends. I run into a lot of dead ends and stuff that I'm not sure about so I jump around a lot. Anything to stay away from the bodywork and sanding. I have been getting some more parts ready to paint though.

Maybe that's why the frame is about a 1/2 high.
