Re: 66 SBFS street truck
Wow! Just finished reading your complete build thread for this truck. Very nice with lots of unique additional details. You do really nice work. I don't know how I missed this build for so long. I followed your '58 FS build thread and really love that truck as well.

Okay so i know i am behind in pictures but i have been crazy busy...Went to the exhaust shop and worked with the guys to get what i wanted.....then we pulled it all apart...yea your right the exhaust guy's thought i was nuts too. Anyhow I wanted to try something differnt so I ceramic coated the entire exhaust system.....

Poured the concrete .....bought a hoist.....moved it into the new bay... Hoists are heavy by the way and not easy to move. But with true redneck spirt and a little leverage,a set of car dollies and a tractore anything is possible.

Re: 66 SBFS street truck
Nice! Looks like a few parts on that slab already. We'll wanna see a full shot of that exhaust once you've got it back on.
|
Re: 66 SBFS street truck
ok... after the hoist we're sharing the internet beers. i saw the picture... hoist is in.
toasting one up right now...'here's to the hoist' ' may it forever work hard' thanks for the beer and have a great memorial day. |
Re: 66 SBFS street truck
Here here,,,I agree with Clem. Toastin a beer.
Ceramic coating the whole exhaust system?!!!????? Dang. That'll keep the underside cool. Addition to the shop and hoist will be real handy. Gotta get my passport so I can come up and check it all out. |

Nice! Pricey?

Re: 66 SBFS street truck
Normal group of Diehards eh?
That exhaust does look slick as all get-out !! A friend cautioned me about mounting the mufflers under the cab like that for sound resonance issues. I am curious now to see how you like it. Doing my exhaust is coming up fast on the list of gotta-get-done :metal: |

Well if you look up front you will notice I put a cross over tube up front . So about the mufflers under the floor thing here is how i look at that. 1) It's ceramic coated so that reduces radiant heat produced by 30% 2) I doubled up the sound deadner in advance on the floor 3) I placed underlay matting under the entire floor Part of the choice to put the muffler where it is....was based on where i placed the two battery boxes on my frame rails. But right abouve the muffler on the floor there is the floor stiffner that has a big lip on it. If I find it's noisey there is enough room to put a shield in over it for both sound and heat. I will let you know how that all works out but in theory it should all be good....lol |

I herculinered the interior of my cab, sound deadner, and floor matting all up under the carpet I put in too. Thanks for the info, I am probably going to ask about this again later.... |
Re: 66 SBFS street truck
Nice job on the exhaust and I'd love to have a lift....you'll get plenty of use out of that!!

So on todays wut not to do in the shop....
I had the guy's looking at me like I was crazy ( not new ) today when we were working on trying to get a 4 wheel disc brake conversion to clear the wheels on a project. I just traced out my wheel pattern indicator a cut a few pieces on the band saw.....lol . I just set it up until the rim cleared the caliper and measure it and ordered the right wheel spacers. Redneck wheel spacers to say the least...lol |

I have my one piece driveshaft ready to go back in....but I am waiting to get everything else in first. Now that i have a hoist I don't want to bang my head on it......lol . Anyhow the black yoke is rated at 600 Hp the smaller yoke is a factory replacement. I thought I would just show the difference because that black yoke is actually way bigger and heavy duty.

Re: 66 SBFS street truck
I been working my A$$ off In the shop during the day and pulling wrench on the hulk at night.....But there is good news, I have the complete fuel line in now and i finished running the brake lines about 20 mins ago....There isnt any brake fluid in the system yet . But with no fluid in the system there aren't any leaks either soooooo lmao. Tomorrow i plan on hanging everything a little bit nicer and maybe even get the brake pedal in ( I think thats important ) I am wondering at the moment if there is even a rod in the booster....Man so close so far....Ordered the shifter this afternoon and i hope to see that soon.
|
Re: 66 SBFS street truck
well.....tried out my new brake bleeder....got round one of the brakes bled. They aren't where they need to be yet but i think the system is good to go . Now its just the rod length and pumping the calipers and wheel cylinders a few times......i think...lol. I had a couple of Master cylinders that came with everything and I don't know what the bore size is so I am in hopes thats all going to be good.

Re: 66 SBFS street truck
I will try to get some pictures out in the sun today......if we have sun , I drove it yesturday and have some issues to fix no doubts on that....lol. But after i remembered to put the HEI excitire into the cap it fired right up at 1 am.....Note to self when really tired you make stupid mistakes....

Re: 66 SBFS street truck
Have you noticed the ceramic coated exhaust system has made a difference? temp, volume of exhaust note?
|
Re: 66 SBFS street truck
Just read the entire thread whilst enjoying my Sunday morning cup of tea in bed. Very inspirational, now off too read your other posts so will require a refil!

It seems to keep the heat in better ...I notice it doesn't pass the heat up to the cab floor as bad ....it sounds bad a$$ but i dumped it out early and I went with 2.5". It does stay hotter longer...So if you run it for a while and then go to some work down by the exhaust it will get you longer then you think. ( got me twice and have the burns to prove it ) But it sure looks wicked and I am doing it again shortly on two builds. |

Re: 66 SBFS street truck
On a differnt note here is the updates.....
Went to a car show last weekend with the boys and we met really early and where at the show for 8 am. There were about 8 trucks with us and well I bought a 14 pack of Tims coffee ( thats the $hit for us canadains ) and well there was a incident with a bottle of baileys myself and a other board member here lol....so after that was gone we stepped it up to cranberry and well of course mixed that too . Now i don't want to give anyone the wrong imrpession of how we roll because thats not usually how it goes. But by 11 am I was done and ready to nap ...LMAO..So 4 hours later I was sunburnt...hot...and hung over and the show was almost over so we booked outa the show and headed home. I made it two blocks before i caught up to the rest of the trucks and they were all pulled over on the side of the road. They inform me that a raffle ticket i had bought took the second prize......Which long story short I won a 18 foot car trailer .....So even with a hang over it was a great show.... |
Re: 66 SBFS street truck
Update 2
Hulk truck is awesome I love it and it drives like a brand new ride...lots of people seem to dig it and like the sinsiter Green combo . Update 3 Two part.. 1962 Milk truck should arrive next week and i am pumped to mess with it and infact I am thinking of pressure washing the grime off it and seeing if i can get it to actually fire up and run.... Yes I bought a 1970 short box big window thats already been started and that i should get in a couple of weeks..... |
Re: 66 SBFS street truck
Congrats on the 18' car trailer.
The '62 milk truck will be a cool build but whats your plans on the '70? Thought I was busy, geesh, you got it going on big time. |
Re: 66 SBFS street truck
Quote:
The 70 is going to be so low it leaves sparks.....I still have that 383 crossram set up that was dyno'd at 500 hp.....that would move it....but the LS stuff rocks so I am torn on that ......lol...I have been thinking about doing a wrap for it instead of the usual paint thing....but it's too early to say right now for sure |
