Much appreciated! I've been following your build too. You have some serious skills with the panel replacement. Lots of work!

Seen em all like 2-3 times so I catch a lot of details on them, especially details they don't even mention. pause, play, rewind, pause, play LoL. Anyways, some of these guys have done this mod, roll pans front and back along with bumpers. It looks REAL clean.

KindigIt and Martins Bros both did camaro bumpers along with the roll pans(if my memory serves correct). Foose did this too pretty sure, on his white c10, youtube. He did another mod I am going to be taking advantage of on my turn signals too :D

We need a new sticky on this site that only hosts "cool mods" with pics that we can just scroll through skipping all the extra stuff in between normal posts lol.

Also I totally agree that it would be slick to have a page full of mods. That's probably one of the more enjoyable things I've done on my project. It's cool to look back and see all that extra time behind the helmet pay off :metal:

I just read through your build and I like the progress you are making. Solid work on mating the bed floor sections and doing the braces before the floor was a good idea.

Keep it up.

Hey thanks for the compliment. I've enjoyed following your thread, too. Your thread gave me the idea to do the bed floor in two pieces. Was a wee bit more work but I think it turned out alright.

Small update-

Installed the latches on the tailgate and it ended up shutting and lining up half decent. Just needs a little tweaking.

Also I haven't been too crazy about the reproduction front bed panel. It doesn't seem to sit close enough to the top rail. I'm going to try and salvage the original panel. It ended up not being as rusty as it looked originally. Just needs a small patch on the bottom flange. Went to town with a dolly and hammer too to take out the dings from it's previous years of abuse.

I'll swap them out and if there isn't much change, I'll just plan on selling it.

Dam that front panel is ugly lol. But that just means it's gonna look better than new by the time your done with it

My hood is uglier :D

Re: 67 SWB First Build

I'm in the same situation with my front bed panel.... a bunch of heavy dings and dents, and I'm not going to replace it with aftermarket either. The factory steel feels like it has a lot more integrity than a re-pop. It'll be a fairly new challenge in shrinking metal for me, but its not that complicated. I had pretty good results using a torch to get it cherry red then smack the high spot with a hammer before you quench it with a wet rag.:chevy:

quick update-
finished cleaning up the front bed panel the other day with a hammer/dolley. Then i cut out the rust in the flange and a few spots that rusted through on the top rail. I ran a punch across the top to make sure there weren’t any additional soft spots i’d have to worry about in the future. Next, I cleaned out the top rail the best I could with a scraper and compressed air. I poured some POR15 in the top rail. It seemed to get pretty good coverage. After some primer and some body filler I swapped it on the bed. It definitely fits much better than the reproduction panel :chevy: just a little filler left to sand.

I’ll shoot to finish installing the remainder of the bed bolts and get the tubs installed. I’ll also get the rear fender welded to the floor and rear cross sill. i’ll throw some body work on the hood in the mix too :metal:

Aint that the truth! It has definitely helped i think using all OEM panels. Only had to use a reproduction floor and tailgate :chevy:

update.

pretty minor but exciting update for me. i’ve been talking about spraying feather fill for the last yr and i was finally able to get a couple of coats down on the bedsides. I can already tell i still have lots of sanding in my future :waah:

Bed is completely bolted together. I only needed to slot a couple holes with the new floor.
Attachment 2030708

I used this 3m strip caulk for the seam between the bed and tubs. It seemed to work pretty solid and from the description it seemed like a good material for the job.
Attachment 2030709
Attachment 2030710

Feather fill sprayed on pretty good for my first time. Looking forward to getting everything else in the near future
Attachment 2030711
Attachment 2030712

Lastly, I finished seam sealing the bed. Very tedious work with all the taping for clean lines.

I finished spraying the feather fill over a week ago and then jumped into sanding mode. i’ve been trying to get a panel/area done a night. Just a few areas so far that will require some glaze. Hopefully in the near future my updates will include some urethane primer :metal:

Small update -

I’ve been spending an hour here and there in the shop when it’s not too hot out. Mainly been working on the hood. It had a lot of flimsiness to it from the rotting hood brace pads. I did a pretty thorough search on here with minimal luck on what to replace it with. Tried using the foam pads but they didn’t work too swell. So I talked to a fella who restores cars for a living and he said i would Be better off using some 1 part sealer every 6” or so. Seemed to make the hood more solid. Hopefully it holds up too well and the hood doesn’t move too much with the fluctuating temps... time will tell.

Test fit with the new hinges I’ve had for awhile. They seem to be a nice piece. The manufacturer forgot a couple pieces so i couldn’t hook the gas struts up yet. Hopefully i receive them in the next week or so.

Tonight i was able to get the hood in feather fill. Back to sanding :ito:

Very nice. And I was thinking about using some of my leftover KILLMAT sound proofing between the hood skin and support rails. You guys think this will work ok? Might have to layer it 2-3 layers it's so thin but I was thinking seam sealer might shrink over time or get too hard with the heat over the years?

That was one of the threads i looked into. I had purchased some of the flexible foam stuff and i did a little trial run with it. The foam definitely expands great but i was worried it would push the hood sheet metal outward too much. The guy i talked to does this stuff for a living and seems pretty reputable, so hopefully his method works.

I think 1k seam sealer I’m using should have enough flex in it and be pretty durable. I just used a dab of it about every 6 inches. Definitely got rid of the vibrating/popping sheet metal. We shall see how it holds up...
I think your idea could work. I think the key is making sure they can move independent of each other. The hood in my opinion is the most finicky panel for body work.

The missing parts for my hinges arrived this morning. Pretty happy with Summit’s customer service. Once they got ahold of the manufacturer, the parts were over nighted which i was not expecting :uhmk:

Anyways, spent 30 minutes piecing it together and doing a rough alignment of the hood. These hinges are pretty sweet and seem to allow for a tad more adjustment than the original hinges which is nice. They weren’t cheap but i think the money was worth it :bann:

Last update for the weekend. Before i blow the pickup apart again for the urethane primer and final sanding, i only have a few items left i need to do. One of those items was locating my mirrors. Had my bro over to hold them in place until i liked the location. I used threaded rivnuts to hold the mount in place.

I know these mirrors aren’t for everyone, but they seem to function well and i think they’ll look pretty good when the rest of the pickup is painted. The mirrors came from Ring Brothers, same manufacturer as my hood hinges.

Thanks to board member Siggy, the other item on the agenda was not originally planned, but I couldn’t resist  I had been looking into the Altman Easy Latch Kit for our doors, and after seeing his posts about them, i pulled the trigger. Looking forward to getting those installed in the near future.

Coolest update I’ve had to date....

My wife gave delivery to our first kid earlier this week, a healthy baby boy. It’s been quite the adjustment, but digging every moment of it so far. Progress is definitely going to be slowing down a bit which is unfortunate, but I’ll still try to sneak up to the shop when time permits.

In the meantime, I’ll continue to look at the build threads to help keep the motivation going and update when i can:chevy:

Little update-
The little guy is 2 months old and boy has it gone fast. I really haven’t had much time in the shop, but between diaper changes I’ve been able to knock a few things out.

I saw a few other members on here that had purchased these altman easy latches and they looked like a nice product. After some research on the forum and elsewhere online, I decided to make the purchase.
Attachment 2056858

The panel that installs on the door was pretty straight forward to install. Shot them with some primer before i installed them. I’ll seam seal them and the rest of the doors when I tear it all apart again.
Attachment 2056859

Early on I purchased some aluminum hexagon mesh for a grill insert. After i completed the shaping and figured out how I would attach it to the grill, i realized I’d lose access to the hood latch handle. After scouring the forum, i found one post about a simple mod that someone did for a similar reason. I decided to make a under the bumper hood latch handle.
Cut the handle off and flipped it.
Attachment 2056860

Used some small angle iron for a bracket and some steel flat bar as my handle. Here it is mocked up to ensure it worked. I’ll eventually pretty it up a little bit and add some sort of padding/handle latch to the bottom of the core support to prevent it from swinging around while driving. Also, I need to get some new bolts, as i just used what i had laying around to mock it up.
Attachment 2056861

Lastly, I purchased a few small items for the interior. Still unsure if I’ll use these cup holders. It’s a nice piece, but I’m still on the fence on whether or not I’ll use my 67-72 seat or if I’ll get something out of a newer rig that has a fold down console/cup holder.
Attachment 2056862

I saw this thread and thought it was a pretty cool seat swap. I’ve searched around on CL and market place, but so far i haven’t seen anything.

Until next time!

After we put the kiddo down for the night, I Snuck up to the shop to get a small project going and also listen to the WSU cougs on Pac-12 after dark. Made a little progress and my cougs won!

Starting to tear the pickup apart again to go through some final sanding and get all my panels ready for urethane primer and paint. I started with the doors tonight. Got everything seam sealed.

Also, Last weekend i use my dad’s sand blaster cabinet to hit a few small parts. I robbed the door panel trim from some old doors i have. They were in pretty good shape. I’ll need the trim to hold my new door panels in place. Got them in primer last week, too.

It’s been over a month since i last updated thread. I managed to accomplish a couple of small items, mostly consisting of sanding.

Had some family swing by a couple weekends ago and i took advantage of the extra bodies to help move my box to a rolling cart. Once on the cart, i did a final sand before urethane primer.

Attachment 2070751

With better access to the back of the cab, I sprayed a couple areas with the feather fill to clean up the body lines a bit more. After a couple rounds of that, the cab is ready for a few coats of urethane primer.

Attachment 2070752

I also finished prepping the front bumper as well as the entire front clip and doors for final primer. My raw hands will appreciate the break from the sand paper.

Attachment 2070757

Attachment 2070756

I put the core support patch off for so long that i had forgotten about it until i saw the damage when dismantling the front clip. It needed a small patch where the battery acid thinned/pitted the metal pretty bad. Also had to weld in a nut that had popped out at some point.

Attachment 2070755

I’ll be meeting up with my parents for a small get together this weekend, so hopefully my dad and I can get my paint order finalized. Also picking up the catalyst for the urethane primer so hopefully that happens in the near future!

Have a happy new year!

Al
