Didnt like the way the switch was sitting, seemed like it was going to wear out the side of the plunger, so i built a spacer. Seems to sit more square on the steering wheel brace

Re: PO has me PO'd

Finished up all the cruise stuff, need to buy a brake rod boot, and a NSS/BU Light switch and the dash should be done. Until i find a SW speedodometer reasonable....

M&H has their own switch that they make....tech guys are the best ive dealt with, spent an hour on the phone with no complaints from the techy, nomatter how stupid the question

If you need help with electrical, check out our forum, guys down there are full of amazing info.

No more melted wires

Also, thanks to Livrat, i now have an 80lb. oil gauge. Matches up to the new oil pump

Basically, Comes down to this, as far as changing from idiot lights to gauges. 12 position, and the one directly under it black and black with white tracer
Probably more, youll just have to check out the entire plug and where they connect into the fuse block. Not that hard

Nice job! About 5-6 years ago, I had a 68 custom camper that I bought for the ac parts. The guy I bought it from only wanted the tilt column so he removed it and replaced it with a standard column. The truck had cruise on it. I removed and sold it on ebay - think I got $125 for it. That was one of those dumb ideas.

Seems like i should go back under the hood and finish up, but it was nice to work in the wide open spaces. Not looking forward to the challenge of the tilt

Doug, ya got me thinkin', maybe its an original 61,000 truck;)

Thanks Dave, thanks goes out to you and John, for giving up your secret stash of parts. Located a patch panel for the forward edge (jlaird), so i can fix either the GMC or Chevy hood....been lookin for several years and finally have all my body pieces

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...116_220223.jpg

Hood fits like a glove, no shims, not bad for a repop tri (top banana) 67-8 core support. Now, ijust have to save up for the billet hood hinges

I guess im doing as well as can be expected ( with a disability wifey and a special needs son), chaos can break out at any moment. But, im SURE, there are other people with bigger problems, so i just keep trogging along with the hand that was dealt to me

We all have our crosses to bare. Right? Reality Forums, dont know how you handle the heartache, i couldnt. You and looksdcvn are at the top of my prayer list

Shame Kurt dropped of the face of the earth, another good guy! Amazing how these builds take a turn in life

Re: PO has me PO'd

Since i ripped out the TSC system, hanging on the left by the brake, logical place to hang the buzzer was were the tsc solinoid hung. fits, but sure where the stock one hangs

Re: PO has me PO'd

Thought id start to document my reassembly of the tilt column that i didnt take any disassembly pics of....so this should be from memory:smoke:

Mounted the column under the dash with the clamp, can only go in one way. There are some nubs and detents that have to align, these are located in the dash horseshoe bracket and the other end of the column, outside the cowl under the m/c. There is a clamp there, to affix the column to the bracket attached to the brake pedal support

This where the detent and nub are located, under this clamp. Gives you the oreintation of the column

Re: PO has me PO'd

Dont forget to put the rubber gasket and plate on the column before it goes thru the cowl

Re: PO has me PO'd

I am not going to begin to give you all the information needed, to many torque and clearance specs., plus i might miss some that would mess you up.
So, all the info. that you need can be obtained from the service manual, under the steering section 9-8, 9-9

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...120_130136.jpg

Im trying to assemble the tube assy shift and the jacket, thought i would try it

jaros44sr 01-20-2012 04:43 PM

Re: PO has me PO'd

Built my own compression tool to install the shift lever tube and bowl
37" piece of all thread(3/8"), 1 1/2" piece of bathroom drain pipe, and some parts from a dyelectric fitting
The 1 1/2" pipe has a large socket on top of it, with a piece of radiator hose holding it together

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...121_160007.jpg

Make sure you line up the key in the bowl with the slot in the shift tube. This picture is outside the jacket for clarity, just so you cansee what it is supposed to look like when it gets assembled
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...121_123511.jpg

Dont assemble as the service manual suggests, it doesnt work. 2 days of trying to get the locking plate in....
Use this oreintation, only press the shift tube to this depth, or you will never get the locking plate over the tube. Start by inserting the locking plate on the right side of the tube. Its one of those things that you will have to giggle around until you get the right oreintation, it does drop in, once it is seated in the correct position

Now, you can continue to seat the shift tube all the way up where it belongs

Re: PO has me PO'd

These are the parts im using next, do not attempt to seat the bearing in the adapter any farther than this depth. Youll just blow the adapter apart...

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...121_162527.jpg

The lock plate and wave washer have been installed in the previous pic.#1747

Re: PO has me PO'd

Thrust washer and snap spring ring installed first before the support...all standard stuff
Four bolts retain the support, torque to 45in./lbs. Thread lock should be used
