I had some stainless 3/8" acorn nuts from a light I made over the lathe and some 3/8"all-thread laying around so I put some green (forever) Loctite on them and made some bolts. I cut the 6061 into thirds and cleaned them up. Drilled and tapped the door and success. Thank you for your time.

I was gonna say, trailer, shmailer, look at that light! That's awesome!

That's a dozen I made for a friend. I guess if you have the bees you have a problem and I have them. I made 6 up a few years ago, out of a 12-pack of jars. Last year I couldn't find the other 6 to finish up. But the 6 got me 36 bees last year. So far 26 this year. I had a lot of 4x4 cut-offs so I bought four dozen jars to make up, either sell or give friends. Last year I made up a bunch of the wood part but never drilled the holes. Yesterday I painted lids, so now I need to drill holes and put them together. I figure the lids will rust, so I used up left over paint. I just built a wheelchair ramp and have enough 4x4 chunks to make another 4 dozen.

Very neat. I need to make some of these. I never saw these until this year. My in laws have a very nice wood swing set they got for the grand kids to play on. One of my sons heard a buzzing sound and it was coming from 2 1/2" holes in the legs. I exterminated them but none of us knew what they were. After some net searching they were for sure carpenter bees. They definitely are destructive and need to go.

On your trap, do you just drill one hole through the bottom for them to drop down into the jar?

Made me laugh but I'm not the one with the damaged porch. So far we just have mud daubers here. Oddly enough, they have learned to nest in the passenger side door of my trucks. A little eerie that they figured that out.

I made this out of scrap like most of my stuff. A customer bought me 24 duel 4' commercial LED lights for my shop and gave me this light too. If you look at the front you can see that I ran short of material and had to piece it together. I also made it so I can pull it down and shoot it sideways into the shop next to my lift.

Yes, one 3/4" hole straight up the middle. Then a 1/2" hole drilled at about a 45* angle to meet with the 3/4" hole. I took a piece of 1" pipe and ground a beveled cutting edge to punch out the holes in the lid, then two screws to hold the lid to the 4x4. I use an eye-hook on the trap and hang from cup hooks.

These came up on YouYube and the guy drilled the 1/2" holes in all four sides. I considered that but I'm staying with just one. Mine are working that way and I'm not sure the other holes wouldn't serve as an escape hole. Mine are one way in, no way out.

It's funny, when I'd see a bee trapped I'd want to get it right out of there. Didn't want the others to see it was a trap. I was too hasty at first and a couple times the trapped bee escaped before I could stomp it. Then I started squirting water in there before opening. It seemed to occupy the bee enough to allow me to do the stomp. But... I have since noticed that having a bee in the trap seems to attract others. Leaving them in there has produced some bigger catches, up to twelve when I fist put them up this year. This was the earliest I put them up and that really seems to make a difference. Put them up before you start seeing them, at the first sign of Spring arriving.

They say put them up every 10', but I only had 6. I put two up on the one side of my 14' screen house and two up on my 24' front porch. My 10' woodshed has one in the middle on the open side. My 12' garage has one off to one side. I now have 6 more to put up. I hear them in my outhouse (mower shed) and my barn. Those are the only buildings with none, so they'll use some. I'll put one inside the garage as well, no roll-up door and they go after the framing. That's what they are doing in the mower shed, not outside. Same with inside the wood shed. So three will go inside those buildings. The other three I'll put on the barn, two outside and one in the shed side that is open.

Replaced the water pump on my Cummins . It’s actually a relatively easy job . Took about half an hour total of Four bolts to remove pump itself only has two started to make noise after I dumped the first load of wood . Was going to get another load but by the time I got the parts and repaired it was to late

Looks like a simple inline-6 water pump. That Cummins is great for being simple

You put a little thought into making that. Great to see! That light should win some sort of design contest. Innovative and well executed.

Good one Tim . I took a few measurements of the wood. Stacked there is 17 cord +/- a little . And 7 or 8 in piles still have a lot more to get . With fuel oil $6 bucks a gallon now I’m sure it’ll be more by winter.

Wow, $6 a gallon to keep from freezing your pipes... if no woodstove. OUCH!

Working on one of my saws the bolts going into the head enlarged the holes so they won’t tighten anymore. So I’m going to have to helicoil them pretty common problem with the Husky 350 homeowner saws . All my others are commercial so they are a built for severe use . The muffler warps causing the bolts to pull out gradually . Took a lot of sanding on the granite to get it level again

A dealer/repair shop would have told you for what it would cost to fix you might as well buy a new one. They would have wanted to order all new parts. Been there done that.

I have a Sawzall that needs repair. The plunger for the blade comes out. I figure it's a retainer/detent. I dropped by the electric motor repair/Milwaukee Tool dealer and they gave me the might as well buy a new one vs cost to repair line. I said it's probably just a simple part. "Yeah, but you have all those gears and blah blah blah". I said I'll take it apart and be back for parts. It cost about $20 to fix.

Today I stopped by the place that has the 67 GMC that I've had my eye on. Someone was finally there. A couple good ole boys having a beer out front.

I introduced myself and asked if he wanted to sell the 67?

Nope... He doesn't sell anything. Sounds like me. But he was a really cool guy. I liked talking to him. He showed me his current project. A 1950's Studebaker truck with a blown big block in it. It was very impressive. I told him that I had a lot of old stuff too and he said if I needed any help with my junk to just come on by. It left a smile on my face. It's nice to meet good people.

Well had to make the gas tank vent tube for my Suzuki . This goes from the tank up to the fill. Obsolete part but it is 21 years old . I was just going to stick the rubber gas line to the end but it’s right up against the floor and kinked so I used some 5/16 brake line drilled out the old tube and gas brazed it .

OMG, not SMOG legal! I know a guy whose Volvo failed SMOG because of a vacuum leak in the fuel system. The vacuum leak was in a hose on top of the gas tank and the tank had to be dropped for access. He used a hole drill and made holes in the trunk floor to access the line, replaced it, and then snapped in some plugs.

Has to be working they dont actually check everything it's just plug into the computer and read it no codes you pass . If the check engine light is on automatic fail this is on 96 and up vehicles .

I had the tank out already . Dont think it would have past even a visual inspection wasn’t this bad in the car but was leaking gas when filling and then could only put half a tank it as it would leak sloshing around

Putting chemicals on roads should be a crime. We are held responsible to keep our vehicles safe and emissions compliant while their chemicals do their best to destroy them.

It is a good morning for getting out early and driving with the windows down for a change. Now that I am sufficiently caffeinated, I guess I'll do the yard work today, and not much else.

Same here, and I can't turn down people who want to unload good things on me either. I have a bandsaw stand I use for my portable workbench that someone was tossing out. That Delta planer is the exact same one I have, that I paid full new price for many years ago. Packing up at Spring Carlisle, the trash can near my space had some things a vendor tossed out. I got a B&D Super Sawcat, the best circular saw ever made. The cord was taped up/spliced/rough shape and the bevel adjustment is missing the bolt and nob-nut. I took it home and plugged it in, works like a champ, blade brake and all. Now I have three!

crappy day number two. (get it?)

in december I became a pro sewer jetter after getting 1500-2000 dollar quotes for just jetting. the laterals in our recent rental were not lateralling or whatever you call it, plugged with years of roots and sludge. in the 65mph winds we excavated and installed 4 cleanouts, one in the feeder and one in each lateral. pulled at least 90 ft of roots out with my 100 dollar amazon jetting rig, it was total blockage. everything started working better except...

there was a low spot by the septic tank and the first (original) cleanout. when it rained, standing water would slip past the lid and fill the tank. got some more 1500 dollar quotes and did it ourselves again, added a riser that keeps the water from getting to the tank lid, and fixed the broken pipe at the cleanout (the guy who tried a snake to clean the laterals ripped the pipe unbeknownst to us, and standing water would fill the tank from there too.

doing some ground leveling today to move the low spot over, after that we should be good.

I went and fetched this home today. 200 bucks. It's been sitting in the desert for probably 30+ years and the hood is munched. The wind must have got it. But it's fairly complete. It's still got the 1600 single port in it which I'm sure is toast.
