Is my reg. missing one wire? It seems like there is a spot for one more wire under it? My batt. has been going dead every sinse my crash. I put on a new alt. and a new reg. not sure I hooked it up right. Does the alt get a ground?

Re: Daverods project 66
i had that happen once couldnt find where the power whent untill i noticed the trunk light stayed on draining the battery

Re: Daverods project 66
Something does not look right , That kinda looks like a internally regulated alternator...
See if you can find a wiring diagram in the Electrical FAQ section. Check the output with a DC meter to see if It is charging. |
Re: Daverods project 66
3 Wire alternators need a charging warning light to excite the alternator and get it to charge. Without that light it won't charge correctly. Does it have a internal regulator? If so you don't need that external one.

Re: Daverods project 66
BTW the alternator is grounded by the mount.

Re: Daverods project 66

Re: Daverods project 66
Looks like the ground goes to the base of the regulator.

Re: Daverods project 66
I grounded the reg to the rad. support thats the way it was. What's confussing me is on the inside or bottom of the reg. (the side facing the rad support) there is a connection for a wire. I don't know if it's just extra or if somthing needs to be hooked up to it. I think it might just be normal?

Re: Daverods project 66
Have you put a volt meter in it to see if it's charging? You might have a different problem. Check the battery too and try to put some kind of load on it and see how much the voltage drops. Under load 9.6 is bad. The battery might not be excepting a charge. Also check all connections, and terminals, and grounds for good clean contacts.

Re: Daverods project 66
I think it was just a bad reg. I redid the wire going back to the batt. It's wedsday and I haven't had to charge it yet. Watch it will go dead this afternoon.

Re: Daverods project 66
Just a heads up of a problem i almost had. The clearance between the wiper motor and the radio was close.
