Re: PO has me PO'd
Gravel Guard seems to level everything out, so no need for tedious prep work. Probably paint it spot on, as Jonathon suggested and go with a graphite to match my grille hoops

Balmy 17 degrees in the morning http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k233/jarosaj/202.jpg Still waiting on my bearings, seems Wes's roof fell in, and lost some of my contact info. which caused the delay...never heard that one before:lol: Picked up the last pieces of my speed warning speedo, pretty excited to start that mod. |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Thanks Wes, got the bearings and othe r parts in today, even with your roof falling onto your motorhome, you still had time to get my parts out... What a guy!

Re: PO has me PO'd
Bearings in, weird on the wedge, never saw a bearing race installed like that...service manual says to run the nut down until all the space is taken up, then give it a 1/16 - 1/8 turn more. Make sure the streering shaft is straight, when you tighten the retaining nut
Finally, the tilt works....last part of the puzzle was to install the spring to control the return, just a phillips screw driver and alot of pressure http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...304_135223.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...4_135323-1.jpg |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Got the wires fed thru the chase, canceling cam installed as well as the adapter for the wheel...getting close to getting outta this mess. Strip and paint cover, probably black

Re: PO has me PO'd
Yep, you guessed it....turnsignal/cruise stalk, as well as turnsignal switch screws have to be removed to get the cover plate on, if you have the red hazard button...
Thats it, next time ill get the three pieces powder coated grey http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...307_133738.jpg |
Re: PO has me PO'd
I bet I took mine apart and back together 3 times before I got it right. What sucks is that afterwards I found the hole where the blinker handle screws in had cracked. PITA to swap out so I left it as is. Mine needs repainted and I'm thinking I might just buy a nice shiny aftermarket one and sell mine.
Yours will be solid though once it's painted. Looks good. |

Wierd, but back in HS when my father gave me the families '62, the first thing i did was the same type of steering wheel and cragers, had problems then, 40 years later still have the same problems. Youd think they wouldve redesigned it by now:lol: |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Jim, been a while since I stopped by, but I'm caught up. You are definitely in what my wife calls "the fiddly work" of the project. Tedious stuff, but I love when somebody takes the time to do it right.

Re: PO has me PO'd
Thanks for stopping by, tynee. Say hi to the wifey for me...
Trust me, if i do something wrong, ive got a whole bunch of guys on this forum ready to let me know:smoke: Had to hold up on my project for some house work, just three weeks! Ordered some parts while i was busy doing electrical Billet hood hinges Electric water pump with port for heater hose Valve covers Speed warning head and tin Every time i think i have the cooling system cured, something changes and i have to rethink, redo the system. This could be the last time. Change the outlet on my rad. to accept 1 3/4" hose, mandatory for the 50 GPH pump. Just got done collecting all the fittings in 1 1/2" aluminum, w/ pipe 70shortfleet did an excellant job punching out my non tach tin, and sandblasting, painting |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Out with the old, in with the new....2003Silverado nailed the problem right away, seemes that i dropped my neutral, all the years of the shielding passing thru the wall corroded my shielding on my main cable. I think Edison installed my electrical power, right after the block in Brooklyn
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...405_141310.jpg Nice work by Les. quite the drama down in the classified on this purchase, but Mel being the good board member he is, got me thru it S/B the last upgrade on my dash, steering column. Now to move on to other problem areas http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...411_112608.jpg |

Re: PO has me PO'd
Jim, I'm sorry about the deaths in your family. that has a way of keeping things in perspective.
You're making slow and steady progress, that's a lot better than some of the rest of us. |
