last night I beat the texter side inner fender into submission to mount the Tesla Model S electric water pump as low as possible in order to eliminate air gaps

We are so close, I am getting ants in my pants

1. VCU - working
2. Safety Box - working
3. Neutral Safety Switch- working
4. Water Pump - working
5. Electric Power Steering, EPAS - working

6. Inverter - today would not turn on
7. DC-DC Converter - currently sitting on the work bench
8. Arduino UNO for PWM for the water pump - working
9. Idiot Light - working

* Oil Pump - is working and is fused and relayed in the motor compartment not in the cockpit

the little gizmo below slows down the Tesla Model S electric water pump to only pump at 45% to keep it from being too loud and extend it's life

You may not want to ask for help, but your wife will likely find your lost parts in under 5 minutes, not knowing what it is or anything about it. Usually its like a beacon for your dumbassery, somewhat embarrassing, but saves alot of time. Don't ask me how I know...Highlights, Hey could you help me find, its a part I miss placed looks like....Oh here it is...Crap....Thanks Honey

you have described my 75 year old mum to the T, as you may recall this thread started out as a Mother and Son Project but we lost all the pics, anywho she would walk into her own garage (I started the project at her house) and annoy me for about 15 minutes then leave, come back a half hour later to do it again, by which time I lost a socket or a screw driver, and I would ask her if she's seen it facetiously, and in seconds she would hand it to me, so I dubbed her The Supervisor

Man I was over at 1:00 AM Auto last night still wrenchin' and wrenchin' cause it did not cool down for us over here in the Capital city till way late, I recall looking at my phone and uttering 90°F it's 9:00 PM !!!

and I got everything done, well as far as hardware goes, but the funny thing is it all looks the same, well except there's a live battery pack under it all now

mounted the second seat, where my mobile soldering station used to be (but I won't miss it), and if the truck had wings (fenders) I could mount the battery where it needs to be and we would be able to attempt a maiden voyage, but for that I need another set of hands

also learned after spinning the oil pump she took another quart, for a total of a smidgeon over 4 quarts, probably since I am running it through an oil cooler on the account of the hotness where I live

You are not wasting any time for sure! Got home yesterday and my shop temp was 104! No quality time for me. Your truck really is something. I've enjoyed reading about the build. ;)

oh wow, glad somebody from Nor Cal can verify the heat we are getting, though I am not glad it's that hot for you

you all may soon meet my friend Artur from the East Coast, aka Maryland, who plans on flying out to help me with the truck, he converted his gorgeous Jaguar XJR but he won't come out in the heat unless we first install this Mrcool 4th gen Energy Star Ductless Mini-Split, White unit in my garage

Well, with two kids in college I am a little short, like $2.5k short, but it may be the solution for some of you all, plus they offer units as small as the 12K for $1,500 bucks, but I don't know what any of that 12K, 18K, or 24K British Thermal Units even means, nor do I want to learn how to speak British

I'm looking forward to watching YouTube and seeing this thing rip down the California roads wide open! In particular while doing it in near silence.:metal: Would an official christening be in order? Smash a bottle of cheap champagne across your bumper just before you back it out onto the road??

just a high tech truck with a low tech hood (bonnet) brace

all wired up except for the Chevy Volt onboard charger, I just didn't have the [ahem] energy to deal with it this month, so we will run on whatever charge the battery pack has in her (per SimpBMS "Lite" 347 volts = 50%)

the inner fenders still need to be installed, we left them off just in case we need access to what ever signals it needs accessing during the test drive type of thing

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

It looks intimidating but it's only Bakers Half Dozen Components, BHDC
  1. Motor
  2. Battery
  3. Inverter (DC => AC)
  4. Safety Box (houses contactors/relays)
  5. DC-DC Converter (alternator)
  6. Charger
  7. VCU (the brain module)

Awesome, thanks for the feedback, can you tell us what size garage do you have, is it a two car? what's the square footage, and would I be a fool for opting out for their smallest 12K unit which OMG, just went up in price from $1,450 to $1,738 I kid you not

My thought process is that I am usually 90% of the time with my back against the West wall of my garage working on the front of the truck ie the engine bay, so if I was to mount the small unit right above my head there that would be my little cool spot, but I'm not sure if that's how it works?

Measure Your Space

Multiplying the length of a room by its width gives you its square footage, or area, in square feet (ft2). This value is then multiplied by 25 to estimate the proper air conditioner size in British Thermal Units (BTUs).

so in my case 20' x 22' = 440 sq ft garage times 25 is 11,000

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

30x40 with almost 11 foot ceilings. Around r30 in the attic r22 in the 2x6 walls. No windows, 1 walk in door and a 16x8 garage door. The garage door is my weak link, it faces west and it's only around r6 or so. I usually just run it in dry mode around 76 degrees 10 hours or so each day and it keeps the humidity in the 30's. The only time the mini split struggles is when the temps get into the single digits. Best part is it only adds about $5-10 a month to the electric bill. Home Depot will have mini splits on their deal of the day every week or two.
