Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Went to the junkyard in the rain, Got a decent hood, a seat that needs to be reupholstered, a dash cluster with gauges, a chrome front bumper, a floor shift steering column, a low trans hump cover, 2 horn buttons, a chrome wiper arm, a left front fender, found some brand new parts in a suburban, a full rocker panel, 2 rocker panel back covers, and left front and a right front floor panel patches, The yard operator let me drive my truck into the yard so I wouldn't have to lug tools or parts, I won't tell you how much I paid for all this stuff cause it will just piss you off!

Welded in the driver's side rocker panel and patched the driver's side floorboard. Scuffed and epoxy primed the entire floorboard and outside of the drivers door.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Well let me tell ya !! first I installed the ductwork for the heater I had a spare one and the original was broke (had to clean it out , mice you know ) ..installed a temp gauge .. put a gauge cluster in .. I pulled the other one to hook up the speedo cable and could hear something rolling around in it so I took it a part and found the speedometer needle had broke .. so behind the garage I just happen to have a cab (saved for a crew cab project ) and of the few things left in it was the gauge cluster .. The cable was routed wrong so I rerouted it (helps to have another truck that has not been butchered, that would be truck # 1) .. Then I was going to tackle the front fender and just do a patch panel , but it was just too bad up front . so I robbed the new one I had for truck #1 ,again...and the bolts .....I geased the front end , found the bolt that tightens the rag joint to the steering box was never tightened, and would not start into the threads.... took it for a ride , then changed the carb , and it still runs crappy.. so if it is in the 60's again like it was today I tackle the ignition...oh also put the seat from truck #1 in it , much better...........

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I finished putting on my new mufflers, Flow Delta 40's, so far it sounds nice with no resonance at cruising speed. I have 2 1/2 exhaust w/an H pipe. There is a ton of difference from the old turbos. Now I just need to put my new headers on.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

First I tackled the wiring .. seems the lights were a bit too dim for my liking.. Thats right It made it's maiden voyage (outside of the sub division) and my boy and I changed the seat at the storage area,by then it was dark.. the volt meter was around 12 volts .. So upon further investigation I found the whole truck was run by one 8 ft 18 gauge wire off the battery .. So I changed it to a 10 gauge and then reworked the alternator bracket and found out why the PO had it so shimmed up in every direction .. the pulley is forward of where it should be , must be for a 6 cylinder .. so tomorrow we rob the pulleys and alternator off truck #1... that means it will also be converted to an internal regulator so I will have more wiring to do .. also changed the feed wire to the HEI to a 10 gauge insteed of a 20 gauge ....

I think somebody must have revamped this forum. So I'll post what I did today, I got my third brake lite hooked up and working. Not quite as hard as I thought it was going to be my neighbor is a electrician and I used his fish tape to pull the wires through the cab in the light hole. I used a Yukon 3rd light I bought on ebay. I hooked in to the brake light switch on top of the brake pedal. Hey it works and I'm extra safe now, here's a pic ....Vernski:hot:

Hey Vernski,

Looking good! Reminds me of a song... "Up on the roof"...

You might want to add yous to this thread: Third Brake Light Thread

A few of us have used that same set-up, except we mounted them under the lip. Big Fenders turned us on to this in the aforementioned thread.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

-well yesterday...
I finished off my 66 bbw parts truck... sold the rear bbw half of the cab to sftorange a while back.. cut off and saved the front top of windshield and roof panel, stripped everything, saved the front bed panel for my custom truck, and tried to save anything off the bed...which I couldn't, rust everywhere... they had put in a "new" plywood bed floor, and it was waterproof enough to rust the entire bed all around the perimiter!

I rolled the frame and v8 ( which turned out to be the original 283) under a good rust free-except for one rocker- 63 gmc cab.
then I put a front clip and-64 chev- and hood -61 gmc- on it.
installed and adjusted some doors I got from derek that have shaved door handles.

ran into an issue with mounting the brake...
the gmc cab still had a hole for the hydraulic clutch, with a rubber plug in it. the 2 m/c holes go across a 45 degree plane... wheras the 66 are horizontal, will have to drill some holes, and maybe install the 66 clutch/brake assembly.

I have a decent box going on this weekend.

I did take 1 picture..however it is still in my dads camera:lol:
will have to edit it in later.

Re: What happened to what did you do to your truck today?

Hey Lake the reason I put the light on top of the cab and not under the lip is the angle of the LED's they are pointing up at about a 10-15 degree's I had a friend help me and we powered up the light and he held it at the angle under the lip and at eye level it wasn't as bright as on top where it sets level. Most of the mini cars, vans and suv's set low to the ground these days, so that was the deciding factor of placement. However it does look better under the lip, if I could have got it to sit at eye level I would have put it there. But this is about safety so that's the poop on that. And I sealed it from water using o-rings on the screw heads, made a gasket from an old inner-tube using a x-acto blade so it can be removed easier. I don't think it looks all that noticeable, but that's one for the opinion poll. If an administrator or someone would like to move these post's to the third brake light thread you have my ok cause I don't know how to do it. Thanks for the heads up John....Vernski:but:

Vern, I requested "What happened to what did you do to your truck today?
" and "What did you do to your truck today? " to be merged when you first posted. I didn't think about the 3rd brake thread. Just post some pics in the 3rd brake light thread. ;) I don't have the ability to merge threads.

I started on my rear air bag install. I removed the PO's cut coils. There are no controls for the bags yet, there is only an air valve like an air shock.

Before: the old coils.

Drove about 2 hours for some 69 camaro 396 power steering brackets, then spent most of the day trying to mount my p.s pump from a 69ish truck w/remote resevor. I need to braze the return line fitting back to the pump and install lines and one project out of many will be done, or closer to being done.
