Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Hi Dan! The truck still looks great and I like the new place too!
:uhmk: |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Thanks Glen for the kind words and for finding JJ.
JJ, Thought you'd fallen off the edge of the Earth! What's going on with your original '57? Any new pics of it? I THINK I remember you'd converted it into the GMC look and even found a Cameo bed for it. What's the latest? Thanks on the house. Last thing I expected to do post retirement was buy a newer bigger house. We knew we were about to pay off the old house soon after retirement and planned to have the hardwood floors refinished, paint in & out, replace windows, etc. Discussing it one night my girlfriend said, "...we'll have to move everything out, then everything back in, we'll have contractors in & out for a year, why don't we just move?" Yada, yada, and we're here with a contractor going in & out, ha ha. But it's nice and we are terribly fortunate to be able to do it. I'll post more pictures in the next few days. |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Looking great, Dan, and don't worry about straying away from strictly truck talk. I have enjoyed following your new house additions.
|
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Thanks Russ. Obviously I'm excited about everything I do in the new house so I enjoy sharing it.
We'd been in our prior house over 20 years and it hadn't occurred to me that stuff like Christmas lights there wouldn't "fit" the new house dimensionally. I measured vs. the new house and I needed more lights. So I mounted them all today and guess what? I needed EVEN MORE lights! I'm just back from my 2nd run to Home Depot today (3rd run will be tomorrow!) and I forgot the little plastic gizmos that mount the lights to gutters, shingles, etc without making holes. Anyway, while I was there I got a bunch of mulch to finish the driveway widening work. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...F15F968A0.jpeg The driveway was widened to the left side with those individual appearing slabs (that are all actually one giant slab below). We filled the space mostly with a sand/gravel mix and the last 2 inches is the mulch. |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Hey Dan. Since this is a truck forum you really should have your TRUCK in the pics WITH the Christmas lights. Lol.
Looks good. Going to Home Depot sure can waste some serious time eh? The end result is good though and, if you're like me, you came home with more than what you went for. AND 5he wife bought into it. Lol. |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
What dsraven said about Pictures and add Buddy in them :-)
So now the drive way looks like it extends into the bak yard , are you planning something else back there ? Plus more pictures of the back yard with Buddy please . Dang it , I was going to post a picture of my back yard but this site won't allow me to choose picture when I click the button nothing happens . This problem started after the last update to macOS Mojave and safari . I guess I'll have to update to macOSbig sur and see if that fixes it . |

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Hi Glen, Glad you got the picture loading issue resolved. My little dog is Joey. He's a hyper loyal little guy. I never expected to turn into the stereotypical old guy with tiny dog but oh well! My lifetime best friend Labs, Dudley and Sooner were the greatest dogs I ever had but Joey has been great too.
Patio room was just finished painting today. The rough sawn wood just SOAKED up the paint. Painter uses spray can Kilz on the knots. Says he has found out the hard way that the conventional Kilz paint doesn't kill the tannins nearly has well. 8 spray cans, EITHEEN tubes of caulk (!!!) 10 gallons of primer and 10 gallons of the finish paint and its done. THat's a LOT of material to get it looking good but it is a very tight job up close. I'm impressed. He busted his butt on this job. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Plasterer will be here tomorrow. Overhead lights and fan are in boxes waiting for the stucco to be done. The roofer will be here Saturday we're told. Audio/video guy was here previously to run wires. He'll be back Tuesday to mount tv, sound bar and some speakers. |

Looking Good !
But where is Joey ? After all I did request he be in all the pictures , I need a puppy fix after loosing our little guy 2 years ago . Bailey's last pic July 2018 . But on a lighter note Our Minions wishing everyone Happy Holidays . |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Ah man, SO sorry to hear about the passing of Bailey. It just KILLS me when I lose a pet.
I've lost too many over the years. I miss them all still. Each unique in so many ways. this is the most recent I have of Joey. No new ones in HIS truck but I'll take some soon. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Thanks Dan
Joey looks good More pictures of the build with Joey please . |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Nothing too exciting today but it IS critical. Drip edging, valley tin & hot melt roofing paper or fabric - whatever it's called was installed. Additional concrete tile to "match" (it won't) will be delivered Monday.

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Very nice. Hope it isn't too hot there (Canadian guy talking. Its abnormally high here lately. Plus 15 celcius) just a little jealous is all.

Looking Good
BTW where’s Joey in the picture ? |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Joey's in the dog house - so to speak!
The side of the house where the gates will be is wide open. I've been using some green plastic fencing stretched between some trash cans and my engine hoist. He found a way to get past it - little Houdini! I found him following his nose a block away, the little pooper. I have to go out with him whenever he needs to do his business because we have significant coyote presence and ZERO cats in the neighborhood - a sure indicator. Now I have to follow him fairly closely too! I never thought Id' become the stereotypical "old-guy-with-little-dog" much less a phoo-phoo dog like a toy poodle. I alway had big Labs - GREAT dogs. I miss my lifetime best friends, Dudley and Sooner. Gone about 5 and 7 years now. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Anyway, tomorrow some significant work should happen getting us closer to completion and closer to back on truck related stuff! |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Ok, THIS close to being done with the patio and I can get back to the truck and the garage it lives in.
https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Roof tile on, stucco repaired except final color coat on Thursday. Lights & fan installed; though fan remote for 6 speeds doesn't work. They gave us a full refund and did NOT want the fan back! I'm gonna have an electrician see if we can just make it work on/off via wall switch since there's no light kit on it. We'd only use it on high in summer anyway most likely. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Time for a Better Homes and Gardens photo shoot!
Looking really nice Dan! Allen |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Coming along nicely :-)
Keep us updated and tell Joey "Ata Boy" |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Very nice, and that is a killer fan.
|
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Thanks everyone.
Still hoping an electrician can figure a way to make the fan work as On/Off via an ordinary wall switch at whatever speed. High would be best. We are installing a large tv out here too. We were going to reuse the 40-something inch one we had in our prior house but it's ancient by today's standards - approaching 15 years and not a "smart" tv so we bought a big Samsung that will be mounted on the wall out there after the final stucco has been installed. Oh and this pic. This is the final "bonding" coat - yeah, I don't know anything about this stuff either. Final house-matching color Friday. These guys did very exacting work, I'm pleased. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Looking great !

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
And....it's done. For the most part anyway.
https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds Gates next week (fingers crossed). A little touch up of splashed stucco and dirty fingerprints on the new white paint. TV and the rest of the Sonos system on outside wall Monday. Spent the day out there finishing the redo on the two tables. Girlfriend was hosing construction dust, wiping tables and vac'ing cushions. It'll look this way a few days before she'll want to move everything around again. |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Congrats It's looking great .
Now the Gate installed , TV up , BBQ going , and it's beer thirty ! Of course the Pool Party and Joey lounging on the couch waiting patently for his glamour photo shoot! |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
I read this somewhere else: We'll have to throw a Memorial St. Patrick de Mayo the 4th party once the quarantine is over!

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window

Man, I LOVED your orange Rallys. These better be some kickass new wheels. Are you driving it or another truck regularly? What's the current plan for your assortment of project trucks? Merry Christmas to you and yours and be careful out there. Hell, we all need to be careful. This damn virus is way the hell out of control in SoCal. Best, Dan |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Hope you had a merry Christmas
Now it’s 2021 have a great New Year ! How’s the project going ? Looking forward to finished pic’s with Joey |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Hi Glen,
The project - the patio? It's done except for a couple tiny punchiest items no one would notice but us. Contractor will be here this week to pick them up. The gates are apparently played til near the end of January - DOH! But once they're installed, that's a wrap. Hope you had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year too. Joey is doing fine as he approaches his 12th birthday - we'd never have known it because we adopted him and his littermate sister, Sugar when they were around 5 - but they were microchipped and it told us their birthdates in February. She passed of a brain tumor about 2 years ago and he has truly become my shadow ever since. |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Oh Dan I'm so sorry about Sugar . They are like your kids .
Happy birthday Joey :) The project is looking good can't wait to see the finished pic's with Joey . BTW take another look at '57 farm truck survivor thread ... |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Hay Dan is it done ?
Inquiring minds want to know . Where are the pic's of Joey with the finished project in the background ? |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Turned out fantastic. Now go enjoy while we still are locked down... ;)
|
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Thats a good looking setup. What size are those beams and supports?
|
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Thanks for the kind words. We really like how it came out too.
All the wood is rough sawn. The posts are 6x6's. The horizontal beams are 6x12's and the rafters are 4x8's and the tails of those are cut to match the ones on the front porch. It is sheathed in 1x6 tongue & groove and that is covered in 4x8 OSB, a hot melt paper roof below lightweight concrete tile to match the house(which it ALMOST does!). |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
For those of you who vote on truck of the month, Dan is in the running. He is doing go so far, so if you haven't voted do so for Dan #13 on vote sheet...Jim
|
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Thanks so much, Jim! VERY nice of you to post this.
I've basically done nothing to my truck in over a year. I washed and waxed her a couple weeks ago, took her on her first real drive in the new neighborhood and got a few thumbs up, which is always nice to see. I recently bought some 17x7 & 8 steelies via OfferUp that I will spray and try out with dog dish caps and beauty rings. Doubt I'll get to that before summer but it's on the list of things to do. We'll see how I like it and if I do the Boyds Smoothies may stick around as alternates. |
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
I voted for you :)
|
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
Got my vote. Beautiful truck.
|
Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window
