I'd buy a Nitrous Oxide System to put on your daily so you can stop driving like a girly man and live up to those stickers.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Thanks to MercDan keeping his eyes peeled, I was off on a small cross country trip in Prozac yesterday.

He has spotted a pre-60 Chevy 3100 and a Powerstroke F350 Diesel Dually on one of his backroad shortcuts and let me know about it, well, anyone who was interested.

I thought that if I sell Prozac and add some savings and the Tax mans cheque this could go into storage for another day.

So dressed in one of my Lucky T-Shirts, I set off in Prozac to do the quick 28 miles to where it was.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psv0dnnvol.jpg

One of the lanes........ we know a Martin, don't we.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psrt7gbagc.jpg

Yes.......

This is England for sure.

Some of the lanes were the width of the car, with passing places randomly along the way.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps2pc5vrvq.jpg

Got to the place, found the house and went in to knock at the front door, twice, no reply.

So I walked around both trucks once, and realised they were not for me.

The red truck has not been taxed since 2008, and the tax disc in the front window showed 2006.

So something catastrophic may have happened.
The Powerstroke had flat wheels and has clearly not moved for a long time either.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psrgou028g.jpg

So I got back in the Berlingo and drove home via my local village and got a haircut, then home to pick Katy up who had arrived in the mean time.

We went to Bunny Bend, one of the roundabouts a mile from where I live known for its massive populations of bunnies, and picked about 8kg of yellow hedgerow plums, really good to eat fresh, but I wanted to cook some jam/jelly
After that I drove to another spot where I knew of two different red plum trees, where I had eaten fruit in previous years (yes, I do love fruit, especially stolen or wild growing)
There I picked about 2kg as well.

This meant we would have around 8kg in fruit once all the seeds/stones were removed.

From there back to the village to buy 8kg of sugar and a small bottle of lime juice.

I will just show the results on here and do a separate thread for those interested in giving it a go.

And No....... I have never made jam before that I can recall, we just made it up as we went along.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pscoytbnd4.jpg

Cooked, just ready to bottle.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psvyog7yyb.jpg

Yellow plum jam.

Made 14 bottles.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfugevkso.jpg

Today was a mix of red and yellow plums.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps8nhfbyjh.jpg

Great taste and colour.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psj7x2emu2.jpg

Total 26 bottles.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps9fgwtqei.jpg

Weekend still not over.

PS. Bootfair sucked big time today, spent only £3.00 or $4.00

Later.

You guys have an open invitation.

McMurphy is just using my front door, and looking after the cats :mm:

Just joking, it's a pleasure to have them here and they are mostly on their own.

Grizz1963 08-26-2017 03:20 PM

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Yesterday I took a day off work, thanks to my boss understanding and spent it with friends instead.

So I suggested Dover Castle which has from Medieval to modern roots and uses.

We were there by 10.00 am.

McMurphy and I or is it McMurphy and me?

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psxyakuzbh.jpg

The Castle was very interesting, as was all the secret tunnels and the tour which included displays of the Dunkirk rescue mission in WW2

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psznyouoqm.jpg

Once we got out the top it was time for a drink.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psr8ovfl5f.jpg

From Dover we went back to Whitstable Harbour to look for Fish and Chips for dinner.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psmuyctpzk.jpg

They had just closed when we got there, however, a walk into town saw us sorted soon enough.

An no, we did not go in for Pie and mash.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psaaxwfogk.jpg

And we were not disappointed

Cod and chips.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psajyl25cr.jpg

It seems food is playing a big Role in this trip.

Today we had a few errands to run, but first on the agenda in Chatham high street was a real Full English Breakfast.

Again, no complaints.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psvyduisdf.jpg

Done.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psjvyjoivf.jpg

After this we went to a sports shop for McMurphy and his bride to buy some, comfy trainers as they will be doing a lot of walking.

Followed by a trip up to Hempstead Valley Shopping centre for some more money spending, and a coffee.

On a serious note, it's awesome to see these two still behave like kids after being together for almost 20 years.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pseneqif9o.jpg

Eventually home by 4pm.

Had Mickey from next door around to arrange Taxi duties for tomorrow as I was headed over to Katy's place.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psn7rshtbf.jpg

The cats are also very happy to have visitors to make a fuss over them.

Animals are strange........

They know a good person.

That's a shame I dropped Sally at work in Chatham this morning at 9am the popped up the high street for half an hour before driving home .

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

When Mickey was obpver to arrange getting the McMurpy's to the station for their trip to London today.......

Cost me £2.00 in cookies and chocolate after being given it by Mickey next door, so not quite bootfair, but a similar trade.

He was going to take it to tip, so I rescued it out the back of his skip trailer.

For my garage to replace the dead one in there.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psizn69w1a.jpg

Suspect there are too many bits, like the DVD or CD player, just need a radio.

Just need to make space in rafters now.

Commented on elsewhere:
Someone would give you at least £50 for that on ebay . Old seperates are great , my brother has our dads old silver chrome JVC amp from about 1983 . Still going strong and no matter what speakers we have put on it , it still only ever operates at about 60% capacity .

Cant believe someone would chuck that !
I just need BBC Radio 2 in the garage, but the existing machine upsets its stations and then you, cannot get it reset some days.

Thought I would just bang this lot up here as well, in the interest of continuity.

I said I would post up a bunch of food centred photos.

Monday we went into Rochester for the afternoon.

Another good day.

McMurphy outside my place, over the road.

Then a break to sit down and relax with a premium priced tourist beer.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps6lruayj7.jpg

Eventually back home we decided to do a quick little BBQ.

My friend Kevin came over for a cuppa tea and to meet the visitors too.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pstozwif5t.jpg

Happy camper.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pspwqywulj.jpg

After dinner everyone faded and we all turned in by 10pm.

Being a tourist, or the guide is hard work.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Tuesday night we wanted to go out for a steak, last meal together, in the end we changed our minds and went with a Chinese Buffet.

Turned out to be a good choice for us.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psrcqrglgp.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps4s3losle.jpg

Back home after dinner, a,last beer, and of course Harley making herself comfortable on McMurphy.

Both cats were extremely taken with him and Trish, alwaysna great sign.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqgkfz8gq.jpg

This morning it was up before 06.00 as the visitors were off on the next leg of their European tour....

Taking the Eurostar train through the Chanel tunnel to Amsterdam and onward from there.

Even this early in the day, the traffic can get to be a nightmare, thankfully we got to leave the motorway just before the actual snarl up.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pspqwmc6bz.jpg

Amazingly, they have been here a week already.

It was a real, pleasure sharing time and travel with them

Good byes said, it was off to get tickets to Europe.

Easy as that.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pswrznwovh.jpg

I was back home before 8.00am

Found both cats in the spare room where the McMurpys had kept their luggage while they stayed with me......

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps8ho82p8e.jpg

I guess they were also missing them already.

I hope we get to see more of Europe through your eyes McMurphy.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

I really do hate school holidays.

Too many bored children about.

More than that, no customers to see. Half away on holiday and the other half working twice as hard.

So last week I took Friday off to spend with friends including the weekend.
I then impulsively asked my boss for some more time off work and he agreed.

So today I spent in town dealing with some banking and other matters.
Not working tomorrow either...........

One of my favourite places on the poor side of town is a Turkish shop and associated restaurant. Great service, food and fresh fruit.

So I decided to have lunch there and watch people for an hour and a half.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pscdfzbsmn.jpg

Today I selected lamb and yoghurt soup, served with olives, pickled vegetables and a pile of their flat bread, freshly baked in a wood fired oven on site.
A dash of chilli oil on top and you are on your way.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pspe2sihe2.jpg

After lunch I had a leisurely Nescafé coffee and watched people for an hour or so and chatted with friends around the world on messenger.

Then the bill came.

£6.00 or $7.75 incl tip.

Got to be a good thing.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pstkf4qb6f.jpg

Sometimes living is winning.

Now thinking about what I will get up to tomorrow.

It could be a crazy good day.

Not even the weekend.

Yet........

Hi JP.......

Free to collect over here.

I am not sure the postage costs or service would make it a good proposition.

I have to say, it has been a great success

Grizz1963 09-02-2017 08:03 AM

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Friday morning 03.45 UK time.

Harley saying WT Actual F ??

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psgmezngkl.jpg

Ooooppps.

Now is Saturday Morning 06.30 here in America.
USA 6hrs behind the UK. Managed about 6.5hrs sleep after having been awake 25 hrs straight.
Impulse buy to come surprise visit my friend Dennis for his 60th birthday.
They have a long weekend with Monday off. Labour Day.
So Saturday and Sunday night are championship V8 Sprint car races.
Then hitting road to see a few very good friends in the Dodge Hellcat, some also will be surprised.
I had 7 beers at last count last night that may have helped me sleep a bit. Coming home from airport Adam did a rolling burnout at 40mph for about 20 meters. Just mashed throttle "gently" and laid two black lines down. The car is a beast.
But 707 bhp will do that.
That's a mad mad car and I will be driving it.

Sometimes I can do spontaneous like buying the ticket. No regrets so far.
Looking forward to this trip unfolding.

I do hope that some of you guys will be along for the ride.

So after an early start yesterday I came in via

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqybk2ent.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps3sni2msu.jpg

UK from the skies headed out.

Pretty.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pshxiddavu.jpg

So I guess the question is.......

Is anyone interested in more feedback and pics from this trip??

Let me know even if you are a stalker.

Guess it's all part of who I am.....

Look....Squirrel.

Well......

Long flight, even longer when all in flight entertainment has been lost.

Eventually made it to Chicago, no sleep and limited alcohol use.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps883ck4i9.jpg

Amazing, and twice as long as the photo shows, walkway to my Terminal in Chicago after collecting and rechecking baggage.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psw6rfkbcd.jpg

Then a quick 45 minutes air time to St Louis, this is over the very flat Illinois landscape

Just look at the order.

This went on for miles and miles.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psbdnrlgxp.jpg

Baggage collection in St Louis was very quick, really efficient.

Then outside and as I got to the pavement/sidewalk, Adam who is Dennis' son and works 3 minutes from there on a construction site, came down the road in his Dodge Hellcat.

Looked rather good.

Then onto the motorway that was massively congested and running stop start.

Eventually got off onto a service road......... Adam just wanting me to drive. What a question.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psjvsinl28.jpg

Dennis' face was a picture when I walked in asking for a beer.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pscjaop2sw.jpg

Race car being prepped for two nights of racing.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psbqfksqgl.jpg

Yes, the wheels are different sizes.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqseoznhu.jpg

More engines than you need.

Two more race cars in the shop.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pszb0tl2zb.jpg

Dennis' 66 C10 Looking good on it's NASCAR chassis.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psru9zohsr.jpg

Now headed out to the Lake of the Ozarks race track

More later if you want to check in.

Looking forward to seeing 20 of these Alcohol fed V8 sprint cars on the start line tonight.

Later.

Morning Ian,

The C10 is getting the one motor pictured above, from the No 4 Sprint car that Dennis sold recently. It was planned a long time ago, to add that motor when he sold the rest of the car.

It will be a beast when done.

Iowa produced the most corn in the United States in 2016 followed by Illinois & Nebraska.
Iowa and Illinois both produced over 2 billion bushels in 2016.
Four states produced over 1 billion bushels of corn in 2016: Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, & Minnesota.
(And I have no idea what made me think that was important)

You know you are not in e city when the mail box looks like this.

Dennis out in the shop doing more fine tuning.

When your motor is putting out high 800's in bhp every bit counts, because everyone else also brings their A-Game.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps66zg86fu.jpg

We did a few bit, me mostly just handing tools and bad advice over.

Then I took a walk to see some of the other stuff that's changed this year.

Real Barn finds, he found and bought this rust free Chevelle (already running after a couple of hours fettling) and a Kerman VW Beetle convertible (For Sale without a title)

Parked in the kitchen of the house Adam and Hanna are building on the 10 acres they bought next to his land earlier this year.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psxuxtjcby.jpg

2/3 will be lofted hone and a third will be his shop for the Hellcat etc, till they build another home further away on the land.

Hard work gets rewarded.

Another Dennis purchase this year, just for nostalgic reasons and to haul the lumber for the house build.

I love this truck totally.

Hellcat getting out the shop.

Love the light rings.

One side is actually an air intake as well.

Father and son.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pslcwfk9vo.jpg

Dennis and Debbie. 12 years later she still lets him go out to play.

Pretty good deal ehhhh..??

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pspupbyj4g.jpg

This was just my sample from Debs breakfast, my life is complete.

NOTHING BEATS AMERICAN CRISPY BACON.....!!

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psnb6h5dju.jpg

After breakfast we went to fill the GMC Dually, Challenger and get both a wash.

Dennis is like that, he likes a clean car.

Right, got to go shower, plans have changed, no cutting trees today, we leave in an hour for a BBQ at Clancy's place, then day two of races.

Later you bunch of addicts, stalkers and Vicarious livers.

Hope to have more to report and photos to post up.

Yup.

It sure is.

Right,

I am currently in Strawberry. Arkansas visiting with Donnie Wilson, no internet, but using their home tablet.

So just a bunch of pics for those waiting patiently.

Up early morning and off on the "Off Road" golf buggy to look at the changes that have happened since last year.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps30ja8ptn.jpg

Drove into next door neighbor Donny's place and made a "Barn Find"

Look in the shadow

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psa1i37li7.jpg

Turns out it is ne of Dennis' parts trucks.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psryray8ks.jpg

After this it was off to fill the GMC Dually that pulls the race car trailer and give it a contactless machine wash.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps0zdbe2oj.jpg

Adam, Hanna and Tyler all went in the Dually, while Dennis, Debbie, Diane and I took his purple challenger to e races 130 miles away.

Doing some detours, stopping for a hand made sandwich along the way at Cranes famous store.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psf76vo0ts.jpg

Then on to Clancy Boots' place after going down to the Lake of the Omari's and seeing the village, the dam and some of the places Dennis used to raise hell.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqjkubutk.jpg

From there it was up to the Lake Ozark Speedway where we would spend the next two days.

More later for those who are still around.

Later guys, now off to see the cows.

I agree, but it keeps me in one piece.

Ultimately, I will be back on the truck once my head is less screwed up with this divorce looming.

Dually should have been the choice this time, or even th the Hellcat, which Adam wanted me to use.

Right.

Interesting times here in the USA.

Yesterday at exactly midday, my Challenger stopped working, on a road in the middle of nowhere.

Dead..... cranks but no Fire.

Checked relays and fuses etc. But it is a modern after all.

5 hours later and much texting and calling on a strangers phone (full report on that in about 150 photos from now) I found myself headed for Jonesboro, Arkansas in my friend Steve's truck, after he had driven up there to check up and pick me up, as the recovery was dispatched to the wrong address for starters, which resulted in us leaving 5.5 hrs after I broke down.
Back at the Dodge dealership in Jonesboro after 6pm, I signed the car over, and was to be back there at 07.30 today when they opened up.......

Then we went for pizza and eventually got home after 9pm.

Tonight by 5.15 pm my car had not yet even been touched or looked at by Fletchers motors of Jonesboro Arkansas, as they are very busy.

Of course I need to be back in St Louis for the secret party Dennis is arranging for Debbie on Saturday, beginning with a Hot Air Balloon ride at 06.00

Anyone have any advice on how to get my car sorted when 300 miles from my destination??

RIGHT.............

BACK TO THE ROAD TRIP OF 2017.

Going to post a load of pics in batches of 10 as VZi only allows 10 to be posted at a time.

All of this is Sprint car and modified.
