dieselwrencher i am doing a similar project and have went through this entire forum its a great piece thanks for the effort and time it helps me out alot. about you custom emblems do you have some more shots of them i keep looking through here and lost them 72 pages is a lot. who made them and can i get some? what size lift and tires are you running? thanks

Thanks. A board member on here made them in his machine shop. His name is Mekdad. The only way I could reach him was via email but he hasn't responded to any of my emails lately so I don't know if he is still doing the machine shop deal. I will see if I still have his email addy. The lift is close to 4-5" I think. It has 33's on it right now. Here are some pics of the emblems for ya.

Last weekend I started doing some piddly stuff to help clean up under the hood. I added wire loom to some battery cables, painted the radiator hold downs, and installed the air filter and tube. That is a PITA.

Now I'm working on getting the inner wheel wells finished up and painted and hopefully install them this weekend.

you probably need some way of deflecting mud and stuff of that filter , its right in the line of fire of everything slinging off the front tire

Thats good, watahyahknow is right, that thing will get all messed up if you leave it exposed.

i think you should relocate your oil filter. then maybe you wont have such a PITA air inlet. thats what im going to do. ;)

I was going to comeback with some snark remark like he'd have to actually drive it to threaten the filter, but that would have been so hypocritical since out of the three vehicles in my driveway, only one has wheels on it, but not all four!

You could say something like real trucks pull trailers, not ride on them??

Truck looks real sharp Ryan (and Nick and Scott)!! Nice work!!

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

one good think about having it raised instead of lowered is that you can set the fenders with a lot more clearance on top you could even go straigth in from the outer fender lip and still dont have the wheels rub at full travel

Your such a bad influence it's not even funny......I was supposed to get a 12 valve last week...then I ended up with a hopped up 24 valve from a insurance deal which looks to be a 2002 with a BD built tranny. Then i bought another dually chassis.......then i bought another cab.....you see how this is going now? Your truck looks killer and now it's going to cost me huge money......lol....thanks dude...thanks alot

think a lot of us carnuts/entousiasts are verry succeptable to the "might as whell"'s
simptoms are big cash redraws even when promising the other and youreself to behave
driving faster than needed to get that deal of the century and taking bigger risks then nessisairy to get that deal home or out of sight of the others living in youre home
oh and dont forget that the wintertime project turns out to become a multy year round build , feul for fights with the bosslady and a honeydo list a mile long

I hear ya. That's what the inner fenders are for. Looking good man. What hydro boost unit did you use. Getting closer on my short box Cummins swap. Just figuring out the little stuff which seems to take the most time. Keep up the good work! Looks awesome. YA Buddy!

True, I haven't been worried much about dirt killing the air filter, but I was worried about the engine sitting open. I'd rather have an air filter than not.

I used a hydraboost for an early 80's GM truck. The type with the newer metric fittings. Yep, all that little stuff takes the longest.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

Here's a little more done to it. I got the LH inner fender rust repaired, painted and undercoated the under side. I'll have to touch it up later as some of the undercoating wasn't 100% set up when I put the wheel well in last night. I still have to relocate some wires and hoses and attatch them to the truck. Today I removed my air filter pipe and cut it so the filter will reside higher and farther back to gain more room for the RH inner fender. Tomorrow I will fit the inner and then clean it up and paint it.

No problem. I'll let you tow it. Be in Mitchellville at 5pm tomorrow night.

Awesome progress Ryan! That inner fender looks way better than my best pair. I'm still trying to figure out how to repair that brace down at the bottom that always rusts from the inside out.
You have any more pictures of your repair.
I really like the custom emblems too.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks! No sorry I don't have any more pics of the rust repair on these. The rust was in the same spot yours is. Well, actually mine had rust in both upper mounting holes, and the lower too. I just cut the rusted areas out, wire wheeled them, and then cut 1/8" thick patches and welded them in. Then I welded the inside bracket to the patch and ground them smooth. On one of them I just welded the rust out of it but it was a PITA! For some reason, my inners had undercoating or some goo in between the supports and inner fender. Too bad it didn't help keep them from rusting.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

Last night I got the RH inner fender painted and this morning I installed it. Then I had to beat on it so the air filter would go on. I will have to redo these inner fenders later on.................

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...905_105833.jpg
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...905_105844.jpg

The above picture was before I tried shutting the hood. The hood hinge got all up in the air filter's goods so I had to rearrange it again.

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...905_120523.jpg

I finally drilled the mounting holes for my front bumper reinforcement bars and installed them. This is another part that is different from 2wd to 4wd on these trucks.

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...905_120512.jpg
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...905_120502.jpg

Tomorrow I have to install my new headliner and trim, install the sun visors, touch up some scratches, I'm going to try to paint the black on my trim, and clean the bed out. If I have time, I'm going to try to build a trans shifter from a stock handle too. Then it's off to KC!

I've got your trailer queen............ Only reason it's being trailered right now is because it isn't finished. It could be sitting in the yard doing nothing but I choose to take it and show it off a little bit.
