Re: My Facetruck thread.
you got that right, market is crazy but we needed something for this summer so Mrs. Bee dug in and found finally found a good deal..
it's just a hair under 27' so it will fit neatly next to the garage and not stick out like a sore thumb :) she has been talking about this for years and really got serious about it with all the travel restrictions being discussed.. I'm glad to hear your comments on the trans, we haven't had many issues with them at work either :) I was concerned about spitting out spark plugs but it seems that was an issue more prevalent in the 3v, but I'll remain cautiously optimistic.. we have replaced probably close to a hundred plugs in two of my shops and we use the time sert kits which are apparently better than the rotunda I guess.. I just buy what my techs tell me too  and even in the van bodies, they're not that bad, I might even be able to do one myself :D now the late model offerings have been poop! just had a 2016 F450 launch a cam follower thru the rocker cover and we're replacing an engine in a 2015 F450 with 46k miles that had all the cam updates at the dealer in 2018 and just went past warranty three months ago  dept. wide had lots and lots of engine issues with the late model dohc engines.. too bad chevy fell out of the medium market back in 09 or so and just got rolling back in to it a year or so ago.. I only found one older 5500 duramax/allison but it was more than 2x the cost of this one, 35', high miles, three slideouts, etc.. probably nice as long as everything worked but it was one of those where there was just too much for the chassis size and looked like one big rolling headache  we looked at class A coaches as well but they waste a lot of space up front, have to add 6-8' overall to get the same amount of berthing space.. we just need something to move our family of 4+dog cross country, not entertain a dozen drunks in glamis  now if I had the room and the coin, an actual heavy duty truck chassis model would be the way to go.. but I'll have to grow into one of those, maybe when we sell our orange county house  there are a surprising number of the mid seventies gmc coaches for sale and I did see some 67-72 possible candidates but Mrs. Bee just gave me the eye, didn't even bother with a reply  |
Re: My Facetruck thread.
Prices are crazy is right.
We bought a Seneca last winter. I was looking last week, and we could make money on it if we sold it. |
Re: My Facetruck thread.
I was just looking at those to see what they're going for around here and my son walked behind me and said whaaaat?!
I love you guys, give me something to aspire to - I barely owe that much on my house  |
Re: My Facetruck thread.
I can't believe what the Jayco Seneca's on the Chevrolet chassis with the Duramax are still bringing.

Re: My Facetruck thread.
Man, for the cost of concrete, just park the RV at a resort and now you saved money and have a 2nd home.

Re: My Facetruck thread.
I grew up on 3-5 miles of gravel depending which way you turned at the end of driveway..
1/4mi gravel driveway, gravel all the way to house, garage, etc. gravel floor in machine shed.. but for some reason it isn't very popular with folks in these parts  at least it's not plywood  |
Re: My Facetruck thread.
sorry Larry but I instantly thought of you

Re: My Facetruck thread.
Who's going to watch it 'til it kicks, so that it doesn't have bicycle tire or hand and feet prints from the neighbors? :D
|
Re: My Facetruck thread.
^ exactly! all eyes on every route of entry
the broom finish is still fragile but we've got tape up to keep the honest folks off of it.. Mrs. Bee designed the layout and finishers hit the marks best they could.. contractor will diamond saw some touchups where needed.. wasn't interested in anything too fancy but this will look decent when house is painted and landscaping finished.. accent the for-sale sign in 4-5 years :metal: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/r693gmqzlqd...35284.jpg?dl=0 |
Re: My Facetruck thread.
I like the tooling.

Re: My Facetruck thread.
I like it also.. the tooling is what catches my eye ,,looks new instead of what has been done for many years ..good street look..
|
Re: My Facetruck thread.
Looks great! Good move on 5-6” and good control joints. Should be really robust.

Re: My Facetruck thread.
^ thank you for the compliments! :)
contractor lives in our 60yo neighborhood for about 30 years and has poured dozens of nice driveways including the corner next to us who's a general contractor 30yrs (not the rough one across from us LoL).. he keeps an eye on me cuz he knows I need it  *detour alert* he caught me bringing door slabs home when I bought the house and started yelling at me to take them back and get prehung.. I didn't know what the hell I was doing so he ripped one out and nailed a new one in and trimmed it in about 30 minutes LoL and I did the rest! later tackled this bifold closet that had been converted to an air handler.. after we replaced the air unit and put it all in the attic, I made it a closet again, all thanks to my awesome neighbor pushing me! https://dl.dropbox.com/s/eaq2gbrjcv0...efroe.jpg?dl=0 https://dl.dropbox.com/s/u6q1nonq8sh...after.jpg?dl=0 I even figured out how to do this from zooming into catalog pictures, took me a month around my work schedule but turned out pretty good for a heavy junk mechanic  started out with caseless drywall and that corner was tricky! https://dl.dropbox.com/s/ctdkv0wqetg...40875.jpg?dl=0 https://dl.dropbox.com/s/5axa8q63pin...42275.jpg?dl=0 anyways, back to the concrete, the pumper on the chevy truck is our neighbor and so is the man in the white tshirt, carpenter by trade but throws in on neighborhood jobs :metal: he's a good friend of the mason.. compacted sand base is typical around here so hoping it holds up to the task with a little extra thickness and heavy bar.. there's a lot of grey hair in the crew's he hires and we've shared quite a few cold ones in the 12 years we've lived here.. I can name everyone's brand and even stock some of 'em ;) we're in a liquefaction zone so about the only thing concrete is guaranteed to do is crack  same goes for stucco, drywall, trim joints, etc.. still fairly easy to keep a place decent once it's all fixed up but we also live here.. property has almost doubled market value and we've only added about 15% of initial investment so I'm happy with it so far.. crossing our fingers housing market is kind to us summer 2025 when the for sale sign goes up :) soooooo, today I posted this about the ups driver and the snake at the farm.. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...postcount=1955 also today (tuesday) this morning I was working on some motorhome research when I heard a knock at the door.. took a second for me to realize... wtf is that? I ran to the door only catch some young ups dufuss high stepping back over the caution tape at the end of the driveway! https://dl.dropbox.com/s/hc92oc0ybhq...43486.jpg?dl=0 fortunately there's very little green and it's ok to walk on but the finish is still fragile and still yet, who the hell doesn't know better! I opened the door and hollered at him and all he could say was "what was I supposed to do?" society failed this poor fellow, I actually felt sorry for him not having any better sense.. not 25 feet to the right of the door, along the side street all out in the open, is a nice wide sidewalk on the side of the house leading to a side gate, all outside the caution tape and same place I moved the mailbox temporarily.. all in plain site and accessible by sidewalk.. https://dl.dropbox.com/s/mfetvlfrbya...18152.jpg?dl=0 Mrs. Bee wanted me to report him but I can only imagine the mental giant that might be answering the phone after I'm on hold for three days.. so it was easy enough to let it go since there was no damage I could see without walking out on it myself.. I prefer the contractor take the first steps  and I don't want everything delivered here by ups in the future get drop tested from the roof of my house.. |
Re: My Facetruck thread.
getting closer, sprinklers are in, waiting for plumber to clean up the main entrance and stub out for the valves.. rake out the trash and complete the grade evenly all around, mulch and feed, should be ready to seed :)
going to wait the full 28 days before parking the motor home up there.. just parking the missus work van for now and the daily drivers on there today for sweeper.. I think the yard/driveway proportions came out pretty good.. not sure how many feet of pvc but there's over 60 heads and 5 valves so should be a decent amount of green we hope.. looking like the trees need a haircut again  https://dl.dropbox.com/s/81cyqu7dxvl...23660.jpg?dl=0 pleanty of elbow room in the driveway for four + rv, five + if we tighten up three across the back :metal: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/ahqi5qy2usi..._2349.jpg?dl=0 |

Re: My Facetruck thread.
thank you! lots of practice on sweeper days, I feel like a valet
actually had to pull a valet out of my 68 3ott years ago, he tried all three gears at once and took a week off the clutch  plumber just finished up, pictures I got earlier look good.. new riser, main shutoff, hose bib and strapped like it oughta be.. separate sprinkler cutout landed in the valve vault too :) maybe you and some of our fellow facetruckers could help me out with something? I'm on the fence.. want something to prevent tracks and ruts but I'd like to keep parkway green.. but not sure we're planning that much traffic to need anything at all.. anyone have experience with these? opinions? am I overthinking it? https://www.orco.com/products/concre...tion/turfstone https://dl.dropbox.com/s/m40dmruub7p...39818.jpg?dl=0 https://dl.dropbox.com/s/5u2gdlyr6g0...39953.jpg?dl=0 supposed to look something like this https://dl.dropbox.com/s/gw93wb4totz..._1636.jpg?dl=0 |
Re: My Facetruck thread.
Hey Craig,
Those lawn pavers work very well, we use them under lawn in ares the fire trucks need to be able to turn around. There are different brands. Many of them, the grass grows over and you don’t even know they are there. |

I'm going to drive down to the C10 Nationals May 13th.
https://c10nationals.com/schedule/ Holler if you are going to be there and we will put faces to this drama. |
Re: My Facetruck thread.
I tried them at my old home. But because of the climate here needed a gravel bed and sand to set them . Grass grew nice in the spring but dried out and turned brown by July to much drainage. I took it out got rid of the dirt in the blocks reset and filled the voids with pea gravel . Ymmv though
