maybe it wasn't made for normal people

So I'm OK.:uhmk: It was a driveline guy that pointed it out to me? It still feels kinda weird. I think I'll turn it 180 to see if that helps.:smoke:

I bet I could buy a new old one for less that it cost to have the guy cut the end off and even it out.:ito:

if you turn it 180, it will be the same thing, just traded sides
that is just like; if a bear was coming at you. would you run in the opposite direction?

not much to it . just put it in the lathe, clean the weld , part it until you hit the shoulder- turn it and weld it. you will be about 1/8 of an inch shorter.
it is easy for me to say as I have lathes

I saw on spike tv show muscle car where tommy shortened a drive shaft. He cut the welds and poped the end off and cut it then cleaned everything up and lined it back up with a mark he made before cutting and then welded the end back on trying to space 4 welds in the 10, 2, 4, 8 oclock postions. I dont think he rebalanced it.

Why take the chance of ruining your U-joints? You might not feel the vibration, and it can still be out of balance. It has to be in faze also then balanced.

easy solution then is to check get the balance checked first.
on the other hand how long has the d/shaft been that way. if it has been that way for years and worked ok, why worry about it

I turned it 180 degee's. If anything its worse. The only time I feel it is on the hiway. It's been that way since I've had the truck. I've always felt a slight wobble at above 65. Guess I'll wait till the next snow storm and go get the end fixed and get it balanced. :smoke:I would like to start hitting the hiways more.:metal: I don't run from bears they run from me.:sumo: He was a bad dog even when he was a puppy.

Wow took a while but I finished this whole thread. Great projects you have going on. Learned alot. I'm having trouble starting one and you've got three going at once.

Re: Daverods project 66

You would be smart to do one at a time. I needed to buy the 64 so I could know how to put my 66 back together. The 52 was something I was going to buy and save for a future project. That lasted about a day.:mm:

Are you sure that carrier is for a truck? Looks like it's made for a tank!

Re: Daverods project 66

Least it's not going to just fall apart like the orginial ones. Whats up with those anyways. Are they even welded on the top? :waah: Could'nt be put together any worse.:mm: Funny thing is the new bearing did cost anymore than the shop charged me for a orginial one. Of course he told me he used the HD kind. :ito:

Yeesh,
I just pushed 18" of snow off the top of my ATV Tent last night. I was lucky, it got up to 10* this weekend; thought about going skiing yesterday instead of working on the truck!!

OK I feel better now. Wish I was there. Looks like your going to need help pulling your metal out of the ice if you don't move it soon.

Re: Daverods project 66

moah just use a propane roofing torch
http://www.skippy-rent.nl/pics/skipp...Dakbrander.jpg
that will work the metal out of the snow and ice no problem

Those are all the parts I am not going to be using, either thru custom mod, or straight up replacement; like those fenders... so rotted in too many places to bother trying to restore, so replacements will be forthcoming.

Besides at my pace, there is a good chance all the snow will be gone before I start putting my rig back together.

Good to see you are still here and making progress.
Spring chores, work and farming kinda overtook me this spring. I am not as young as I was last year, It is getting tougher to get it all done...

I really noticed a difference in the quality of light after the relay addition. I scored some halogens from the junk yard that are brighter than the T3s.

I bet not many people get by the door butler...

What is your plans for Motorfest in July, Are you coming to town again???

I think we'll go to the one at Emmit this year.;) I'll have to check on the dates again it was a couple weeks after the motorfest right?:mm: Ya I did the relays on my 52 too. Thinking about putting the harness in my 66 now that I have all the stuff out.
All the butler wants to do is hump your leg or chew your socks. He does'nt really chew them, he just slobbers all over them.

I think Emmett is held the week after Motorfest in July.
The show in the park is great with over 500 cars but the best part is the street cruise in the evening.
They close off State highway 16 through the center of town. only the cruisers can drag main like the old days.. Lots of street parties and bands BBQ and skin .
But it usually HOT! like in the high 90*s or 100*s
It is my favorite event of the year. I will be there for sure!!

These are taken last year.. that is my red Chevelle convertible
