I made a little more progress this weekend on some things that have been bugging me for a little while. First, I replaced some airline fittings that were leaking at the swivel (seemed like an odd place for a leak:confused:). Of course they were in the most difficult place to deal with :(. Once that was done, I installed a new closer ratio RedHead power steering box. The factory box was a 16:1 ratio (4 turns lock to lock) and it felt like I was steering an aircraft carrier :D. The new one is a 14:1 ratio (3.5 turns lock to lock). I know that doesn't seem like much, but it feels so much better and is a lot less "work" to maneuver this beast, :metal:. I also got my headliner bows finished. Will try to install them today and then I can call the headliner D.O.N.E. |
Re: 1969 SuperBurb build-up (Bagged and Blown!)
Are your headliner bows reconditioned factory ones or ??? I would love to see how they came out. Mine are in but if they ever have to be removed I don't have much confidence in my ablity to remove them without damage.

I know I missed you not having it at Battle in Bama this year, but I hope you'll bring it to the Southeastern ALL Chevy/GMC Truck Nationals.

Apparently I got lucky with the first two bows only taking an hour apiece, as the last one took two hours....:waah: Oh well, it's done and I think it came out pretty well. My buddy also got a little more done on the sub box, can't wait to see what it looks like done.

Re: 1969 SuperBurb build-up (Bagged and Blown!)
The bows came out great. Took a lot of patience. What was fighting you?

I also mounted a toggle switch to work as a headlight dimmer since I had to remove the factory one (due to the kick panel speaker pod interference). Not my most creative solution, but it works and can be easily undone if I come up with something better. |

Here's a better picture of the headliner and a little more work completed on the sub box.

Re: 1969 SuperBurb build-up (Bagged and Blown!)
Ahh - so that's what you're doing back there. Hadn't thought about a speaker box. Still kicking around that kind-of a looks like a spare box, but maybe as a tool kit and air compressor storage.
If you get a chance think you could get some better pictures of the bows you installed? Really interested in seeing what you did to yours. |

Hey Rob, I saw this from Flaming River a while ago. Not sure if the juice ($99 + gotta disassemble the steering column) is worth the squeeze, but just wanted to give you an option.

Making progress on the sub box. Should have it covered by this weekend. Still trying to figure out the grill cover. I also wired in a GBCM (generator battery control module) that controls the alternator output. Before the alternator was just defaulting to 13.7 V (13.1 on the gauge). Now it will vary the voltage based on demand, battery state, driving conditions etc. It's a pretty "smart" little module. Here's a good write-up on it if you are interested:
