It's been a busy weekend, squared the bed installed the bed wood, and Polished Stainless Bed Strips with Hidden Fasteners. Then installed the hidden latch kit and adjusted the tailgate.

To recap this weekends events, I met a lot of cool people, had fun showing off my truck and got to cruise home on a beautiful spring evening.

The ‘58 took first in the Late Truck class and later won the John & Marge Foster Award, an honor bestowed by the show organizers. The GSTA members picked the '58 as the vehicle they most wanted to take home. I am very honored and humbled to be recognized by my peers.

Thanks to my friends for helping to make this all possible...

I am using an old trick I used years ago on a friends 8" in his Model A that got warped by the shop that welded the spring rests on. My 55 rear had the same issue, so here I am. I heated and cooled the opposite side to bend it back. It looks "ok" with a square running down the side off the flange but I need to bring my other tools I made at home to measure it that I forgot when I brought it to the shop this morning.

Cross your fingers for me.

Hey Brian, in the pipefitting world we heat in a diamond pattern to get the pipe to pull to that side. Hope it gets better.

Ahhhh, a straight up diamond, ok. You can see I have sort of an oval "diamond" so I had the idea but I will go with a straight up Diamond, thanks.

I've used several, they all seem to work about the same. Mother, Mequires, this time I used Busch, polish and sealer. Have pics in my thread...Jim

Yep, I was done, or so I thought. As I was putting my tools away it hit me, what about the toe? I hadn't checked that, well, it was off a little so I will be correcting that today.

One step forward, two steps back.

Intended to clean my door edges for door seal installation today but there was lots of old weatherstrip and glue residue at the front by the hinges that was unreachable so I had to pull my doors off to get at it - unfortunate since I already had them perfectly adjusted.

At least I'll take this opportunity to paint the inner doors and jambs.

I got out there and cleaned up the rear end housing. I will do some spot blasting tomorrow and it's ready for primer, WHOO HOOO!

They got my rear window in, they had to remove 1/4" from both the top and bottom to get it to fit, they need to do the same to the windshield. I bought all new tinted glass, and now I find out it is common to have to have them cut. Oh well, it's only money.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

That's the first I've heard of needing the glass cut, but it doesn't surprise me considering most glass is being made in Taiwan. Speaking of surprise, this is another surprise I have to look forward to!

I'm still doing body work on the bed sides when it's not raining, and today (while it's raining) I'm back on the wiring.

I solved the problem by just chopping the top 3.5 inches so I KNOW I have to cut the glass. :D

Actually I will just have it all made from scratch being it's flat. Other than the corner windows of course, and I got replacements of those that are laminated so I can cut them unlike the originals which were tempered.

I needed to pick up a filter and oil for my Plymouth so I jumped in the truck and made a run to the parts store. On the way home I stopped for 10 gallons of fresh gas.

It sure feels good to get behind the wheel again...

I screwed up today. After painting my door jambs I reinstalled the door. Oops, forgot to install the door seal weatherstrip first! You guys who've done this know how hard it is to get the seal in the front by the hinges with the door on the truck. Oh well, I've got the door adjusted so I'm not taking it off again. It is possible to get the seal on with the door installed, just a lot harder.

Today I spent 10 hours driving my Gran Sport to my brothers house so he can make a cam and carb change for me. I used 15 gallons of gas going 170 miles! Yeah, you think I need to change the carb and cam so I can start driving it every day?

Anyway, so my five minutes on the truck was 2 minutes, getting the frame in the garage where the Gran Sport usually sits so I can get it together, WHOOO HOOO!

I have to prime the rearend, and after that I can assembly the chassis and get the cab on the frame, that is my goal this week.

Now the fun begins as you watch it come together!

My 5 minutes, actually close to 10 hours involved get my friends trailer, (yes, I do have a couple friends who still claim to know me!) and getting the Beast home, then a couple guys on my street offered to help me today when they saw me bring her home! So we got her unloaded and the bed put on!

You know the funny part, this is a convertible and the day before I was wondering if I will take this long drive with the top down. I got up yesterday to misty overcast! It looked like it would rain the majority of the drive up and back! This photo was taken at a good point.

Today I look out my window next to me right now, there isn't a spec of a cloud in the sky! LOL

Maybe next week when I drive it back we will see.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

This Easter morning I got out to the garage and arranged some parts, did a little planning on getting the cab onto the frame, got something done. There is no way I would have fired up the compressor or power tools as it's Easter and my neighbors are just feet away from the garage. And it seemed like every single thing I wanted to actually accomplish would have required that. So I kept it to what I did and called it a day.

Ok, I got the inside of the doors done today at work. They are ready for primer.

I came home and spot blasted the rear end housing of what ever I didn't get off with the abrasive wheel. And then I started the lift thingie to get the cab up on the frame. I was going to finish it, I was RUNNING out there not stopping, then WHAM, that was that, I need to sleep.

If it's on someone else's truck it's bondo. If it's on my truck I call it "light filler".
