Re: 1968

Well, today was Sunday so I rested and nursing my hand. I had a brain storm of a idea with my grinder. I removed the side handle and when I was using the wire wheel. You guessed it right. It got away from me and it took about 1/4 of hide off before I could let it go. But now I put the handle back on. I thought I could control the grinder, but my grip isn't what it used to be.

Wow, that had to hurt! I have sanded my arm with an orbital sander but a wire wheel is whole other thing!
Hope you heal up quick.

Today it was hot. I didn't go outside until later in the day. But, I did get the back up light back on the truck Now they look right. I also pulled the cowl to install the leaf guard. I hope to re-install the cowl tomorrow after I get the leaf guard in place.

Today, I made my backing plates for the door hinges on the pass. side. I hope to install them tomorrow. First I have to go to the VA and get some copies of benefits for disability.
There's no telling how long that will take. Our Government at work. Don't get me wrong, we still have the best country in the world. But the red tape is a lot to be desired.
I made the plates out of 1/8 in x 4 x 4 in metal and drilled the holes in the right place. The holes are oblong so I will have room to adjust the door.

today I had to do some work on the homestead. But was thinking on the bolts for the hinge. I think they will be a might short after I put the plate in behind the hinge. So I will have to get some about 1/4 to 1/2 inch longer. Maybe tomorrow I will go the Ace and pick up 6 longer bolts.

Tonight, I sat out side in the yard swing looking at the back of my truck. It is lower in the right side about 2 inches. I guess I better find out what the problem is. Maybe a tire is low or a lose bolt. anyway I will get a better look tomorrow.

Or a low spot on the grass, don't get all worked up about it unless you see it on flat pavement and its still doing it.

Re: 1968

If you are using the original springs it is definitely possible that one of them is sagging but it is just as likely there is a low spot in the dirt.

Maybe try sitting sideways on the swing and then look at it. ;)

swamp rat you might have something there.
Bryan I am using the 72 springs and they looked and measure the same when I installed them.
And my buddy Nick. I can always count on you to come up with a solution.

I finally dropped everything and picked up the longer bolts for the door plates. Tomorrow
I will try and attack the pass side door plates.

Went and ordered my new sun visors today. They will be black and orange. The orange will be a strip in the center and black on top and bottom. I will post pictures of them when he finishes them. They cost less than new after market ones.

He's the one that I had do my seat. I will also have him do my door panels.
He takes the visors apart and puts in new board and new chrome clip if it needs them.
They are going to have the Harley Davidson colors the same as my seat.
I am really pleased with his work. He does quality no quantity.

Well, Today I finished the pass side door hinges. I mounted 1/8 in plate behind the hinges top and bottom. Now when the door closes it looks even. Not like before it had a 1/2 inch gap on the back side of the door. Now , created another problem. One of the bolts on the top hinge stripped out and I had a heck of a time getting it out. I can't weld a nut in behind the bolt for I can't see to go in close quarters. I was thinking if I could jump up a bolt size in metric like I did on the other hinge bolts. Anyway that will be tomorrow's work or job.
I also made (4) ground straps for the cab and bed. I thought about putting two on each.
I picked up 8 eyelets with 1/4 in hole in the eyelet and 4 feet of wire. I crimped and soldered the wire to the eyelet and put shrink wrapped over the wire after I finished the straps. it looked good. Now if it holds up. only time will tell.
I still have to adjust the fender on the pass side just a little. That will close the gap on the front of the door a little.

The gaps look better George.

Today I made a set of door handle gaskets, out of a inter tube from a lawn mower tire. Don't laugh it worked. So I installed the door handle and the door panel and the inside door handles. In the picture you can see the backing plates. I made for the hinges. I couldn't jump up a bolt size for the hinge. It is hard to tap a square or oval hole, so I just put a locking nut on the back side of the bolt in the hinge. Now the hinge works nice and flat.
I also finished the grounding straps. I ran out of gas for my small torch. So got a small bottle from local Ace hardware. Back in business again. Then I installed the grounding straps one on each side of the cab. I was going to mount two for the bed But, the bed will be bolted to the frame and that fixes that.

I made too many straps. But what the hay, it don't matter. it was only some time spent. I will put them on the parts board maybe someone will need them.

I couldn't get anything done on the old girl today. For a number of reasons
1 too hot
2 motivation
3 friend came over and he bought him a 1957 Buick special. He wanted me to see it on line so now he will start fixing it up.
