as for me I had a 26 inch bike with a 20 inch front tire and for a while had a old car steering instead of handle bars .. |

I just remember flipping the handlebars up on my Schwinn Varsity 10 speed to ride wheelies on it. That was common at the time. |
Re: My Facetruck thread.
And before the wheelie days it was sticking that Bobby Orr hockey card in the spokes with the clothes pin.

Remember the sky high sissy bars? Probably the reason they invented the wheelie bar. lean back against that sissy bar and you were poppin' wheelies real easy Here's a bike that has it all! |

If I had the hockey cards today with some of the top players back then that went into the spokes I would make some decent $$$$ on them. |

I got this one in the shed. It's similar to the one I had when I was delivering newspapers. It has a slick on the back.

Had one like this when a young lad ,The wedge , but I don't remember the handle bars being like that

Re: My Facetruck thread.
Wow! I forgot about the V-rooom thing. I got one of those for my birthday and immediately removed the close pins and baseball cards from my spokes.

I made my owner Sting Ray/chopper bike out of a '40s-'50s 20 incher someone gave us. I never should have changed it but I wanted a cool chopper, and it needed parts. I gave it a gold base with candy apple green metal flake lacquer job. I went through a few banana seats but ended up with a Schwinn white metal flake. It was like one of these, black & white
Attachment 2114177 Attachment 2114178 I was a little older when I got my first shiny new bike. It was a Sears with 24" wheels. It was purple and the tires were redwalls. It was a stick shift 5spd with dual rear brakes (no front). Cool bike! I switched to a Schwinn seat on that, too. |
Re: My Facetruck thread.
My first shiny bike was a Murray Eliminator. It was next to the Christmas tree when I woke up xmas morning. I didn't pay much attention to it because I thought it was for one of my brothers. I couldn't believe it when I found out it was mine.
I rode that bike into the ground and finally cracked the frame. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...Eliminator.jpg |
Re: My Facetruck thread.
Baddass bike! I remember those and all the muscle bikes. We sure had cool bikes offered back then.
Gotta be cool like Evil, right? |

30 second Evel Knievel commercial- he includes his “safety tips”- hilarious! He’s the reason the kid in the above pic is launching himself through the air

We were jumping fools back in those days. No helmets. Nothing like that. But I did get a couple of nut crushers. |

These pictures of bicycles reminds me when I went to Cottonwood Falls about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I saw a fella that had a Penny-Farthing bicycle. If you did an endo on one of these could possibly end your life.

Re: My Facetruck thread.
I love old bicycles but never had interest in those! They call the bikes we know that came after those, the ones with same size tires and a chain to the rear wheel, "safety cycles". Get why?

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...c30150a0_c.jpg I worked a short stint at a bike shop in the early 80s. Someone brought this in, asking about fixing the bent gooseneck. The owner gave a quote, the guy flinched, I asked to buy it, SOLD! It's rideable enough, did a 4th of July parade with the bike club. Then hung in the rafters of my shop, where it's been about 35 years. Almost hurt myself getting it down yesterday, weighs a ton! Cleaned and lubed, but need to replace the brake cables, and see if the bike shop can get the 3 speed to shift, seems to be stuck in 3rd. Made the chain-guard from a scavenged stove door, hardly a replica, but it's not worth restoring. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...44a56f17_c.jpg Found a good location to take lots of pictures. LOL https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...6052ce4b_c.jpg I looked at Flickr for pictures, noticed my model with 5 speed and high sissy bar is really rare. Figures, story of my life. At least this one is a Mk1, probably 1970. In Ireland they have rallies where people do group rides. This bike saved Raleigh from bankruptcy. The safety was questioned in Parliament. There are museums with them on display. I never knew...... Anyway, now that I'm in the Fakebook klink for 30 days, I'll be on this forum more often. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...8f260055_c.jpg |

We took a drive over to Yellville, AR to eat BBQ yesterday. Our 16 year old granddaughter drives the Ochre K10. We caused quite a stir at the restaurant.

Reminds me of one of my friends who took a 360 out of a wrecked (Suzuki?) motorcycle and put it in a Moped frame. Took off down the street and the throttle cable stuck. He ended up running behind it until it fell over. HE came out of it unscratched!
