Re: PO has me PO'd
oil pan is up,but not without a struggle. My all thread didn't work as planned, the back corners hit the all thread, but the front was ok. I've bought 2 of these gaskets and neither on came with those 4 gizmos that help with installation
I have to open up the holes in the clamps for 1/4-20 studs. I have a press / punch with dies, want to see if it works on SS, I have to find the pliers that close these clamps https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...9a2134cc_c.jpg[url=https://flic.kr/p/2gspivY]20190706_101712 https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...c920ba9d_c.jpg[url=https://flic.kr/p/2gsp2LF]20190706_101726 https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a7a860de_c.jpg[url=https://flic.kr/p/2gsp48J]20190706_101800 |
Re: PO has me PO'd
I always glue the gaskets, even the one piece, to the pan with black RTV and let it sit for a few hours or overnight. I put the pan bolts down through the holes to keep them aligned, and also use some blue tape. Gasket stays on the pan whether it is upside down when installing on an engine stand or when putting it on the engine when it is in the truck.
It's looking good Jim. |
Re: PO has me PO'd
The one piece gaskets don't need any glue or RTV. Just make sure the block and all mating surfaces are clean and bone dry.
Here's the Snap-ups you're talking about. Don't know how I put up a pan and gaskets before without them. Huge difference. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fel-es72863 |

By the way Jim, what is the capacity of that pan?
|
Re: PO has me PO'd
thanks for your ideas guys, but I sorta went with both, just RTV'D the 4 corners where it made a sharp bend. ran my primer device yesterday and no leaks so far. But, who knows what will happen when the engine gets up to temp. and full pressure.
the pan is a 8 quart, just a heads up, they didn't deburr inside where it was cut and welded so be careful when you wipe it down https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...c70b0a21_c.jpg[url=https://flic.kr/p/2grFkpA]20190705_095016 thanks for the link on the parts AJ. I just may buy them and keep in tool box |

Re: PO has me PO'd
my shop is empty, moved over to injection connection, sure feels like a load has been lifted from my shoulders. I'll let Dale handle my problems for now....
first problem he saw was the sealing of the pump to tank, he offered suggestions. I'll post up when I get more info. Yes, that is one of the shelving units loaded with Jimmy parts, I'll sell them off as I don't use them https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...af5d5632_c.jpg[url=https://flic.kr/p/2gEFFfj]20190722_194138[ one eye instead of four https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...cdc4d161_c.jpg[url=https://flic.kr/p/2h7pLiM]20190829_100502 https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...141a114e_c.jpg[url=https://flic.kr/p/2h7pLo6]20190829_100619[ |

Re: PO has me PO'd
When I lived in MT I’d drive my k20 in salt free snow and had a good time. Too much salt here to consider it. I’m told that some car washes here recycle the undercarriage wash and it can be like brine - I’ve identified a car wash that doesn’t recycle water.
Thanks for the good words. Having a great time here! |

even the ones with 50 years machining have a bad day, clamping force just was'nt enough, end mill sucked into part, luckily you won't see it odd shaped part, will redesign with a spacer and machine off all the ugly This was my third attempt to fit over the timing cover |

This may work after all, just have to order some .750 x .250 diameter spacers, give it something solid to pull up on https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...3c7d17dd_c.jpg[url=https://flic.kr/p/2heTW96]20190913_111354 this all can be removed after we establish TDC |

Re: PO has me PO'd
This is the locking ring and SS mount I picked up from VaporWorx, now I have to figure out how to attach to fuel tank. This seems to be the new industry standard for electric fuel pumps

Re: PO has me PO'd
Installer seems to have been able to get quite a bit done, timing done with cam and crank sensors, adjusted valves, and installed poly locks correctly, working on fuel pump purchase, wiring to all sensors, and power to battery and grounds, trans. temp. ran and done, worked on mounting plenum, I was short one bolt.
Also cranked to motor over and got 60 psi up to rockers and push rods, other than the popping thru the 4 missing plugs, he said it sounded good I lost 3 spark plug wires, in the rush to clean up basement, so the plumbers could install new soil pipe(6" cast iron to PVC) That's about where I'm at, at the moment, still have to source out a welder to tig the ss mount to the tank, but need fuel pump first to check height WOW, 400,000 views, seems like yesterday I started this build, it's been a great trip with all of your inputs. Best board on the net |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Hey Jaros - you got a pic of your whole truck? I've bounced in and out of your thread for years but I'm not sure I've ever seen the whole thing!
