I figured out how rig up some temporary header extensions to keep the hot exhaust from burning off the engine paint from the block. I'll run this until I get to the muffler shop to get the real pipes mounted up.

Bolted the bell housing ,motor mounts, and perches to the block. Got the location for the perches marked and holes drilled. Now I need longer bolts, lol. Block is freed up now to get this engine together now.http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps2suchbvr.jpghttp://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z...psvqh0hmxt.jpg

This took much longer than I ever thought it would, but my brother and I finally got my cab in paint. We spent countless hours over a couple of years on weekends. All done in our garages, but at least we had access to a state of the art booth to spray.

Took 2 hours to scrape (not finished) off one side of the front end. 50 years of buildup. Hey, at least it's not rusted. Lol

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
With Martin's extra hands my cross member is now bolted in, and the drivers side LCA bolted in. The passenger side needs its ball joint to be removed as the LCA is damaged and will be replaced by the one that came from Paul "NevEno" once I push in the ball joint.
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqk2lgasy.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pskqgedvwl.jpg And an even more awkward job done as it needed a spare hand to lift the trailing arms in via the jack and getting the bolts through and buttoned up. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfsi6i16g.jpg |

Lizard skin noise reducer sprayed on the floor, Sikkens OTO (like lizardskin) on the cab underside. Next is steering column, autowire harness, dash, doors. It will be months before the other panels/pieces are ready for paint. Good luck with yours! |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Well I needed to get a gearbox crossmember , as I have changed from straight 6 manual to a V8 with a TH350 auto box .
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psaqoq31yb.jpg The trouble with being in the UK the cost of shipping is far to expensive for such a heavy item . So £5 or $7.50 worth of steel from a local scrap yard . I decided to make one http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psyuzgco75.jpg Well I managed to get my crossmember made today . http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psga0pdpam.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pszqh2bhkf.jpg This is with the gearbox mount in place http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psc68nx48u.jpg What I did find was the C section I used on the ends is an inch shorter than the chassis rails , so instead of cutting and changing it . I decided that by using two half inch spacers , I have the option of raising the crossmember , depending were the spacers are placed . Tomorrow I plan on checking the clearance with the exhaust to see if I need to put some notches in , if it fits I will drill the holes and get it painted . |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Finished completely redoing my front drums. Wheel cylinder on right was bad (locked up on me while driving nearly making me mess my britches) so thought it would be best to replace everything: drums, wheel cylinders, springs, bearings, shoes, and hoses. First time I had ever worked on drum brakes and packed bearings. SloMoe now drives smooth and stops smooth!

I put the Chevy decals on my grill. Then I was looking at some mud I thought I should hose off, when I noticed some wire up in my passenger side wheel well, wonder how long those keys have been there.
