Not a whole lot but i did start cutting some stainless interior trim pieces on one of the lasers at work. And I put my new Powermaster XS starter in. Man this thing cranks!

Adjusted the glovebox door striker so I can pop it open with one push of the button. Now I don't have to fight with it to get to my stereo.

Flipped the frame over and painted the bottom of everything we couldn't get to on Sunday afternoon. Learned something, too. If I EVER (!) do this again, I'm not going to brush-paint the chassis, regardless of what kind of paint I use. Rattle-cans or bonafide spray gun....that's the ticket.

Once the parts are sand-blasted....the work begins. Looking forward to the chassis reassembly. I want this thing back on 4 wheels. 4 years is too long to go without my truck. I need a fix.....man.

I finally changed all of the fluids and filters in the "new" '68......I think the oil filter had been on there awhile 'cause it REALLY didn't want to come off.

This is what happens when a stubborn oil filter meets a determined new owner.........and a Vice Grip chain wrench. (nothing else got it to even consider turning.)

Dropped my 396BB at my local machine/pro shop for evaluation and a complete overhaul. Bought the truck with the engine removed and disassembled. Now I am having the pleasure of having the engine build to my specs.
SO far we are looking at a complete rebuild of the '71 402 heads with new valve guides, valves and seats. The crank will have to go to -.020 and the cylinders will have to go to -.060. The engine and rods will be line bored and balanced. I am also looking to go with a Lunati Voodoo series 60202 mild cam. Not decided wether or not to go with the PO Holley intake and Holley DP (size unknown). I might just go to the Edlebrock mainfold/carb setup for ease of maintanability.

'69 Chevy C10 396

That is all so far.

Worked on the wheeltubs for the rear (actually this was Sunday, but I havent been able to get on here fince then). Got them trimmed to fit real nice to the factory bedsides and floor, and got them tacked in. Just have to finish welding them in, and decide if I am going to leave the rest of the floor open or make a notch cover for it.

This one of the probably 50 times we put them in to check the fit. The factory bedsides have several complex angles in them, so it took a long time to get them just right. They are almost there in this pic, but not quite.

And this is finally tacked in, adn done for the evening.

I did a brake flush. Found a plate in a garage and the rest was easy.

I pulled my front clip off, relocated the proportioning valve, and started pondering how to keep my steering shaft off of my upper arm when I'm aired out. Still a little stumped. Colin Havens--those tubs look great.

Thanks man, just got to finish welding them up and spray the bed down with a good coat of bedliner. I cant decide to leave the center open or to build a removeable notch cover so I can still access things like bags and lines if I have something fail.

As far as your upper arm hitting your steering shaft, you can do several things. Are you running stock arms? If so you can notch it with some tubing cut in half (like a "C") so it will clear the steering shaft. You can also swap out to a D shaft and some universal steering joints and an idler shaft, raising the shaft to clear the upper A arm yet still mak it all the way to the steerign box. Your third option would be some custom A arms, which would clear. Obviously the first thing is the cheapest, just depends on your skill. Good luck with it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I got my speedo gears in today. I installed the new drive and driven gear, tail shaft with new pinion seals, installed a new rear pinion seal, re-installed the yoke and the drive line. Buttoned up the speedo sleeve and cable. Gotta let the lock tight set up tonight and hopefully I can test out the speedo tomorrow.

I've got an orange (I think #8) drive gear(1.84 OD) and a brown(18 tooth) driven gear if anyone wants it.

Speedo seems to be reading better. Not jumping around like it was. I need to get a GPS to check my true speed. Fired it up, ran it, found out my temp and volt gauges weren't working since I put in the new dash. I twisted it a bit at the printed circuit when I put it back together. All better now. But a new circuit is in the future I think

Replaced my front steering and suspension original ball joints and tie rod ends, control arm bushings. Today, recuperating from 3 days of squating under fender wells. What a ***** it was to get those threaded steel bushings out and new ones in. Shaved twenty pounds of my truckes weight, all in rock and crud scraped out of a-arms and crossmember.

VERY COOL! I found the app and checked my speedo. Still off. 5 mph too fast. Just ordered another gear so now I will have a blue (20) tooth now too. Brand new, barely used! If anyone's interested. Also plled my front bumper off today cause it was crooked. Fixed it and me and the boy put it back on. Good day.
