Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Thanks guys!!
A bit further with the front end. I took the lip out of the steeringbox and made it flat, I like it much better this way... This is how I did it: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-G...o/P1250939.JPG https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-n...o/P1250940.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_...o/P1250941.JPG https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-R...o/P1250942.JPG Next I made some plates to get some strenght at the front end above the IFS https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0...o/P1250943.JPG https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Q...o/P1250944.JPG The plates are straight and the framerails are "bent". First I was thinking to fill the gap between the plates and the framerails with some metal strips, but I managed to get the plates bent towards the frame with some C-clamps. I like this better. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-S...o/P1250945.JPG https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-h...o/P1250946.JPG The plates are now tacked in, run out of time, so finish welding have to wait.... All is going pretty well, if I may say so ;) |

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Today I mounted the wheels and rack and pinion. I had to move the truck a bit to get to work at the backside.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-E...o/P1250952.JPG https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-k...o/P1250953.JPG Have a few things to do thou, have to make shockmounts, mount the anti rollbar, brackets for brakelines and such.. So far, so good!! I took the plastic bedliner out and was surprised to see that the box was in that good shape! Sure I need new bedwood, but the box itself is in good shape!! Too bad the PO had everything mounted with screws, so I have a lot spots to weld, the same as inside the cab. Well, it keeps a man buzzy :uhmk: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-O...o/P1250958.JPG I want the box off so I can work at the IRS, when that's done its on to the cab. But...that will be a while before it's that far ;) |

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Damn! Kees, I just read through the entire thread in one go. Amazing build, keep up the good work!. I'll be following this thread for sure because as we say in dutch: je bent een handige donder. No idear how that translates into english hahaha
I'm down in Hoofddorp, so I'll be sure to visit one day and see it with my own eyes :) |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Nice work Kees. Moving right along!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Thanks guys!!
Jim, the front is not even ready yet :lol: But yes, I started on the back half today.... Steve-W, you're always welcome! So, on with todays pics: I have, as I told before, a XJ12 IRS, with this ugly cage... Boy this thing is heavy! https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-e...o/P1250963.JPG Cage has to go, it's a must!! https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-H...o/P1250966.JPG That's better ;) Also tried to take the bed apart, some bolts came out, and some broke or didn't come out at all. We took the whole bed off and deal with that later. Now I can see how much space I have to get the IRS in. I think it's not so difficult, time will tell.... Before the bed came off, I finally found my change from Good Ol' US of A :lol: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-O...o/P1250964.JPG https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-A...o/P1250967.JPG https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-G...o/P1250968.JPG To be continued..... |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
