Is'nt that the truth! I thought I was the only one. How do you seal them from the elements?

We are planning on deleting the vents also, the benefit of them is outweighed by the crud in the eyes factor

......definitely. I figure the vent windows do a better job anyway.

 no you're not! I briefly thought about that and I mite just place a sheetmetal piece over the hole. If I take the handle off the vent I may be able to use the original to seal the hole.

Thanx daverod....I was checking out your suspension parts and looks like you have plenty going on, too. If I can help with the bags I will. It was confusing at first but it will all come together and make sense as you go, I assure you.

I'm thinking about welding a bowl in there and using the space to mount some speakers, but it is probably kinda high.
might have to mount some mid-bass speakers there.....

It's a good hite but too far under the dash IMO......mite work well for the mid-bass but would need an enclosure for sure.

Tested my valves today and they work great..no leaks. I pumped up the valves and left the truck sitting there and it didnt move. Looks funny as hell though! Looks about a foot higher.

Here are the kick panels with the resin. I need to let them dry and then do some bodywork to them to get them smooth. They turned out better than my last set. Two different colors cuz I used two different T-shirts:lol:

Yeah!! I went and got fleece on the first set and it was a waste of $$ and too fuzzy. I think I read about a t-shirt in Frizzles thread. I had a couple I recently put in the rag bin and pulled them out and put them to use. After 3 coats of resin they are extremely stiff. I will then sand them a bit to rough them up and then use fiberglass body filler over that.

I knew everyone used fleece, didn't know cotton T's would work as well. I got some things I need to build, well practice first.

.......OK.....been awhile being that I've been working on the pickup. I'm going to continue my bodywork/paint while shifting gears to do some more work on the 'burb. I'm trying to make the March Goodguys show in Scottsdale; its the timeframe, not the drive:lol:!! I finished the kick panels and have a stereo and thats where I stopped working as I was sidelined by a few things ($$$$$).

I'm back on track and starting a new phase for the 'burb. Engine time!!!:metal:.......picked up a running 454 and a T400. Pulled from a 73 pickup. I will go with the 700r4 but took the tranny as a spare. I pulled the stuff and out comes a damn near brand new trans!!!! Anyway, here are the picks...a little grimy, but a smooth solid running engine. Also notice the aftermarket A/C compressor....made by Tehcumsah ???? Thats what the tag shows.

It's already cleaned up some and will be getting a re-seal and a serp kit that I've had for years.

Cool! you got your big block :metal:

That A/C compressor looks a lot like a York.....some guys turn the Yorks into air compressors for various uses....just a little FYI.

I'm aware of its use; I was going to ask you about the compressor. The tag clearly shows Tehcumsah (I gotta check the spelling:lol:) on the back. It was an old aftermarket set-up.

I tore down the external components last nite and blasted the engine so its looking better. I'm going back today to get a brand new ms/cyl that was on the truck. It should be a good match for the hydro boost.

Captainfab 01-19-2010 02:09 AM

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics

Yeah I've never heard of a Tehcumsah compressor either, just small engines.

joe231 01-19-2010 08:45 AM

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics

IIRC, Tecumseh made York clones or re-manned Yorks.
they are the same compressors.
The '73 that John and I tried to part out had the very same set up.

Thanx man, but that whole bunch of stuff is history. I have a complete '89 serp set-up to install along with hydroboost brakes.

I'm waiting on a small order from Summit and will install new gaskets on the 454 along with a fresh coat of Chevy orange.

Ok....thought I would post up some of the parts I'm dealing with here. The engine is torn down for cleaning and gaskets. I'm getting ready to paint it soon.

Here is my BBC serp set-up which I need to figure out. I dont know how it all goes together:lol:..I'm sure I'll get there. Also my mounts and stands. Also scored some *****in' Sanderson cast headers. These will have no clearance issues; very tite to the block.

Lastly are my hydroboost parts along with Cap'n Fabs brackets.

Wow man!
Cool parts!
I especially dig those headers :metal:

protrash, how do you plan on making the engine perches work. I have a pair of those and they were a little to high of the top of the frame. I had to put my 3 point perches back on.

Good question.....everything I'm going on is hearsay, so I guess I'm going to find out. My plan was to swing the engine over the bay and lower it in and see where I ended up in regards to the mounts.

I dont have SB mounts available, just hacked up 292 mounts currently. If I have to, I guess I'll go aftermarket or make some up. I'll definitely post it up 'cuz I cant find exactly how this works anywhere on the website.
