Did a little treaking last after getting our garden planted. I had removed the original hood springs cause they seemed to be the culprit keeping the alignment off so I used the S10 rod to hold the hood up. I took the radiator mount off the top, unbolted the fabbed front mounts then pushed down on the front. Hood still lined up pretty good so I'll trim and re-weld my mounts.
Rootbeer, for the latch I took the original hood part off then took the S10 part and centered up the striker latch rod with the '52. Then drilled some holes and bolted it to the hood cross plate. I also lined up the latch plate with the hole on the '52 catch plate. I'll take some good pictures for you tonight. Shannon, Thanks.....hope ya'll made it thru the storms the other night ok. Rootbeer here's some better pictures of the hood latch. I played around with it last night and found that when I leveled out the catch plate (more like in relation to the S10) it worked better so I'll have to weld a wedge (notice the space in the picture) in place when I attach it to the original plate.

Well, fender mounts are modified. I got my hood latch welded up then moved onto the radiator top keeper and mounts for the a/c condensor. Not much room left to play with under there. Got my taillights wired up and rear bumper straightened out and adjusted. Still have my beehive marker lights to get and put on but bought done with the rear.

That's cool!, I like the remote hood opener,right now I am wishing I had my radiator the way you have yours. I have mine setting in place but my intake tube is setting to close to the radiator for the fan I have. I have been running the options through my mind
Do I A. notch the frame shorten the drive shaft and move the engine back. B. buy a new smaller fan when I have about 10 fans at school in the storage area that are to thick C. do what you did and move my radiator forward and redesign the hood latch Decisions,decisions..... If it was easy I'd build two of them |

One thing about the way I have done mine that I never thought about was with cutting the radiator shroud down sure does make working on the engine easy. I need to weld one more piece onto the radiator bar to keep my fan system in place, I happened to do something while working on it and it popped out of the tabs so it needs to be held in place. I have got to buy my intake boot from a 88ish IROC to come straight out with the MAP and then air filter.
RB, I vote for the pushfan as well. I had to cone out one fan shroud to ease more room for the upper hose myself. I will have to put a piece of plastic in between them to eliminate rubbing cause they rest together. |

Started the process of putting the A/C in, would like to slide it more to the drivers side. I plan on making my way to the junkyard in the next fews days to get the transport vans wiper motor then we'll see what happens. I did modify the speaker cover by tacking the cig door shut then cutting off the excess metal to give me a little more room.

Today my son and I got the brakes bled, man what a major hurdle crossed. Monday we are gonna do everything we can to crank it.

Changed the link out. Looking at the old S10 one I had, I saw what was wrong, installed the Z28 one. Turned the key and to my ears the sweet hum of the fuel pump. Purged the fuel lines with about 5 turns of the key, said a prayer and with one full turn of the key IT CAME ALIVE. Of course I may have some kinks to work out , it seemed to be running good and rich also the coolant gauge never went up (which I may have a wire crossed) and I forgot to install an new thermostat and then install a oil pressure guage. One more thing to do is change my tranny fluid and filter while it's on the jack stands and then get my gas pedal installed so I can back it out of the shop. MAN I AM STOOKED!!!!!!!!!

a nice thing about warmer weather is that projects start to move toward the first drive or the vroom of the engine

It's looking like my aveo cluster isn't going to work. The only thing working is the tach and it reads 1500 rpms at idle. So instead spending money on calibrating it or buying aftermarket ones I'm going Friday to the junkyard and getting the one out of the Z28 my motor came from. Everything will work and hey even the odometer will be correct. I know I'll have to do some serious fab work on my dash , but it will be worth it. Since the post on here for the ones with 52's and seeing its dash I feel motivated. Something simular to this on the cluster side.

usually the mecanics of those dails are mounted with two small screws to the facia , maibe you can use the aveo cluster you wanted to mount and mount the mecanics of the gauges out of the camaro behind it as long as the numbers on the dail are spaced the same it should work ok

I spent 2 hours at the junkyard Friday getting almost everything I needed to complete "Fred", picked up the cluster, seat belts, wiper motor and other goodies. Saturday got the cluster wired and put into the dash, will have picture tomorrow cause I have to make a change on it tonight. But it works great just enough room left for the headlight switch and wiper motor. I also have to replace the brake booster, seems the truck sat so long the vaccum is gone; pedal is hard as snot to push. I backed the truck outside for a good 50 yrds to take a look... man it's low, then when I went to pull it back the motor stumbled and the SES light came on. Luckily I have many gearhead friends and a couple is coming over with a scanner to check everything out.
Get the windows in, go to the tag office, call my insurance office, an alignment and I might get this thing to a show next month. |
