I hope to push 118mph... Next year I hope to launch it from at least 2500...

That's a good run IMO, especially for the first time out. Congrats.

Thank you! It was a rush!

A 140lb weight saving is quite a difference, think 100lbs is a tenth of a second alone.

Nice first pass. 118mph should be enough to go mid/low 11's

What fuel pump are you running? I'm running an almost identical motor. Did you run a cstraub hyd roller? I've talked to mark and thats what he recommended for me. The guys over on chevelle.com are getting nasty horse power out of the afr heads! My dad said I was stupid for spending that much money on them. Can't wait to get it finished up! I really want to put him in his place. Also, what stall and trans are you running? IE, manual valve body etc..?

Holley 12-454-? 170gph. I dunno if Mark got the cam from cstraub. He has been using this cam in this motor for quite a while... He told me a couple months back that the identical engine to mine with more refining is making upwards of 725 now... Mark is always trying to make better power, and is obviously very successful!

With timing locked out and slicks it may not work as well as you want it to.. Locked Vs unlocked is a whole chevy ford deal.

Actually unlocked is the "ideal" setup since you don't need as much advance down low, but for a strip truck where you spend most of the time in the top end in you power band, the optimum timing does not vary hardly at all with higher rpm so you can get away with locked timing since the motor hardly spends any time in the lower rpms (or none with a high stall TC).

Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!

If the convertor is right and the tires gear ratio and tire size etc works then yes you can keep timing locked however when things are not "perfect" if the engine bogs for what ever reason you are done .. way too much advance for given rpm etc. I would unlock it while you get the set up dialed in then once you are in the ball park then lock it out. But I see a plate on that truck so it does get driven on the street correct??

Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!

Well my guess from after talking to mark is that your running an ISKY hyd roller. Thanks for clarifying the fuel pump for me, wanted to be sure I had the right one. As far as the timing goes, a street ride should definitely have the vacuum advance hooked up. However its his motor and the fella who built it for him is more than knowledgeable. If I were guessing, its still timed exactly how it came off the dyno. Just be sure mark knows that your driving this thing out on the street! That little bit of info needs to be relayed to the builder.
