Wow I wouldn't have guessed that there would have been that much rust!

I might have a patch for you to fix the radio area. I can check the bone pile if you want.
Bummer on the usual rusted spots. Probably a lot more there than you can see on the surface. It's a pretty straight forward repair just gonna take some time.

I was gonna say the same thing about the patch panel, shipping would probably kill it though.

Me too, I knew about the cab corners, but the rest caught me by surprise.

I think I am going to just use one of the billet inserts and an after market stereo. The sheet metal repairs are another story. Initially I figured I'd just let it ride, but after looking it over today I think they need to be dealt with soon. When I have the cab off the frame I'll take a look and see if I can handle the repairs. I have zero experience with sheet metal so it should be interesting!!

Bummer on the rust! My truck has it in all those same places. Sounds like you've got a plan to tackle it.

Got a package from everyone's favorite vent window guru RogerKoop... The channel run and anti-rattle seals should be in from gmcpauls tomorrow afternoon. The windows are really difficult to roll up and down, but we should be able to church them up! :metal:

Are they replated or just clean originals?

No, it will be so far down the road I won't be able to remember wanting one. Or who you are... Or who I am... What were we talking about?

Re: Project: Shiro

Questions for the day:
1. Anyone know if there are different tachometers for 6 and 8 cylinder trucks?
2. What is the capacity of the in-cab fuel tank?

Been fiddling a bit just to try and stay interested until the PB stuff gets here. Worked on the dash lights and fuel gauge today. Got some of the lights working and now others that worked before no longer work AHH!!! Swapped the gas gauge for one I had stashed and it goes to empty when powered up, but I'm not sure I have enough gas in it to register, only 4 gallons or so, hence the question above. Hope you are all having a wonder day. ;)

BigCountryx 01-26-2014 07:58 PM

Re: Project: Shiro

The 6 is a different tach and a rare one at that from what I understand. And I think the tank is about 21 gal.

lolife99 01-26-2014 08:09 PM

Re: Project: Shiro

There is definitely a 6-cyl specific tach.
They are stamped on the back.
I own one that I bought off the board.
They are alot higher priced than the V8 version,... because the V8 version is being reproduced.

C10_ustacould 01-26-2014 08:35 PM

Re: Project: Shiro

The one in this truck has 8 cyl stamped on the back side, so the question is, is it reading accurately?

Good news... I was able to get the dash lights working! One thing I still have is the BRAKE light is on constantly, unless I unplug it from the proportioning valve. The brakes work fine, so what could cause it to be on?

No, it won't be reading accurately, basically 75% of actual motor RPM.

I'm guessing someone bled the brakes without the little tool that holds the proportioning valve piston in the center (with air upstream of the proportioning valve). This happens when someone replaces a master cylinder. You will need to re-center it to get the brake light to shut off.
