Re: Stolen....
Hey 68IRON, because of what happened to you, and it happening so close to my home, my truck is now a little more secure. If you get a chance, check out my thread.

Update indeed! My truck has been in my control, again, since 7/30....and to be frank.....its been a great blessing. I couldn't say why, but its just great to have it back and we have it running and driving better than before. But before I get to the improvements I'll a couple of pics of what I got back. Its not bad at all but......what were they thinking in those 10 days they had it!Attachment 1564448
Attachment 1564449 Painted center and column, all the junk in the back(mostly theif stuff; tools, hose, tank, license plates, etc...) DARK tinted windows. How did they catch 'em? Well, they came speeding up on a police cruiser fast, which gave way and let them pass on a street. The thieves turned down another street while the police went straight, all while running the plate. It came back as STOLEN. The police officer then did a U and took after my truck, but lost sight. He then called on the radio my plate....the back one was still current. They wrangled them at a motel 6 in the fine city of SeaTac. When they approached the woman (there was a guy with her) she kept saying this is my truck....over and over before they could ask her anything. They said no...and called me which began the return. The stuff I found inside is pretty amazing! State id with SS card, someone else's registration, 4 EBT cards with pin numbers and a broken crack pipe in the ash tray. In the bed, plates that are current and handicapped mirror tag also current. I turned all this in to the Sheriffs and they want to see if they can build a case....who knows. I do wanna say I did also post on FB that it was stolen.....and did get a response that I know was it 3 days prior. That system works! Now, for the improvements! I replaced tie rods, new seal on my 3 ott OT tranny (no leaky) and added a anti theft system. Ok, I have no idea how my buddy wired it, but I will try and have him draw a schematic if need be. The system uses a normal 3/16" head phone jack (placed anywhere in the truck) which controls two relays independantly for starter and ignition. When the jack is plugged in, low voltage actuates the relay making the circuit. When the jack is pulled out, no circuit for starter or ignition and an LED flashes on the dash (looks like security system). Pretty cool stuff....this was his first one! Attachment 1564456 |
Re: Stolen....
Oh ya.....they named her too. I'm keeping it for now!

Re: Stolen....
Ok, so they tinted your windows? Where is that name sticker, on the tailgate?
|
Re: Stolen....
That is an awesome story. Glad you got it back!

Re: Stolen....
glad to hear you got your truck back.... no one ever said you had to be smart to be a crook, I can't believe they were just making it their own.
I would like to see and hear more about this kill switch device you added. |
Re: Stolen....
It is this im petrified of, I live in a rural area but do travel into the city.
Plan on setting up a few kill switches all over the place, if they intend on stealing it they will have to go on a hunt to make it start. For now my Neutral kill switch does not work, so I purposely leave it a bit in drive(my indicator is a bit sloppy). Sure, my truck would be dinged but I feel sorry for whoever tried to steal it! |
Re: Stolen....
I'm glad to see they got your truck back. I just guessed that it wasn't a younger person who stole your truck. How many young kids/adults can drive a manual, let a lone a 3 OTT? Either way, those dirt bags should get sent to Russia. It might take them a while to steal their way back across that big pond.

Here is my kill switch schematic (rough sketch) and the unassuming headphone jack that makes it possible. Its simple, reliable and inexpensive. When its wired in just plug the headphone jack into its receiver and it actuates the relay completing the circuit. The receiver can be hidden anywhere from, inside glove box to (we tossed this around for awhile) using the cigar lighter as the plug in......pretty cool. Oh, and we also as can be seen a red light starts blinking when the system is disabled (another thing for thieves to think about before working on the truck). My buddy used speaker wire to make it look for all intents and purposes, like the headphone jack receiver is for music. Whatcha think y'all? |
Re: Stolen....
I like it.
