Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Yeah, that's what I thought, Gary!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Looks great Kees, I was also wondering what the purpose was of those "pockets" at the rear cab corners.
Kim and Chuckdriver, your solutions look great! Can't wait to see what yours will be like Kees :) |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Those fit real nice.
Kim |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Looks good!
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Nice work Kees! Don't see many propane fueled hot rods here.
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Looking really good (totally out of the box) at least over here!! I LIKE IT...
Mark... |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Thanx all!!
And yes, it's literally out of the box :lol: I took all the parts off of the frame again, cleaned it a bit so it's ready for paint. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-V...o/P1260090.JPG I also took the halfshafts off of the IRS, I need longer wheel studs in it, mount new brake discs etc. I need a press to get the flange off, I'll try that Saturday... https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-v...o/P1260091.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-d...o/P1260092.JPG The Brittish know how to put an axle together... it won't fall apart, everthing was so tightened, the waterdrops stood on my back  |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
The frame looks real stout in the rear.
Kim |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Jag IRS has American Dana 44 center section. I like how they did that.
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Thanks Kim, I also like how it turned out.
Gary, Jag used two different types of centers, Dana and Salisbury, they look alike but are just a tad different. Don't know which I got just yet. I put some primer on the rear frame and the parts of the IRS today. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-C...o/P1260095.JPG I think it needs another coat and then the black can go up. This week is the final mounting of the IRS (I hope ) Then on to the front, and finish that part. Still got a lot to do ;) |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
I did not know they used Salisbury, the cover sure looks like a Dana 44. Have fun painting!
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Very clean! Are you going to detail the IRS??
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
man, I don't know if it would want those propane tanks sitting there exposed if you get hit from the side. I would try to place in them inside the frame rail.
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
ChuckDriver, IRS is just going to be painted. Nothing fancy, it's going to be a daily driver you know ;)
Spblack, inside the framerails doesn't fit. I drove for years this way with a Chevy Van, never had any issues with it, just hoping the "other people" would look out some... Thanks for your worries though! |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Frame looks real clean in primer.
Kim |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Kees, frame looks good in primer, with black paint will look great...Jim
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Looking really good Kees!
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
After two coats of primer, now one coat black.
Just one black coat to go :metal: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-G...o/P1260104.JPG I took the IRS apart to get a good look at it (had not done that yet...) There was only one broken bolt, a bad one! The lower control arm are hold by a "bridge" that is bolted to the diff with only two bolts each side. Left side was loose, and at the right side was one broken, not really a good thing ;) It sure is a good thing I clean things up before I mount it on the truck :metal: What good about it is that the diff itself and the power lock is really clean  Parts, parts, parts.... https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-J...o/P1260111.JPG A look inside: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-E...o/P1260112.JPG Till next time!! |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Good progress. I can almost smell the gear oil in the last picture. Always reminds me of my Grandpa's garage. :)

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
The frame looks real good.

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Kees, nice job. Inside the carrier looks great...Jim
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Frame looks good!
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Nice and clean looking on the frame.
The Diff. looks in perfect shape :metal: |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Rear frame is painted, two coats primer and two coats black.
Thats ready to take the IRS :metal: But paint has to dry...so on with drilling out broken bolts of that same IRS. Bolt is out, but I have to make new thread. It was 7/16 and it will be M12 metric, because I have enough of that ;) I made a bolt just like the original on the lathe, except it's an M12. No pics yet, sorry. I also did consult NoClassic, because he also has Jag IFS, and is "two" steps ahead of me...I belief he's in driving state  I asked him about the shockmount measurement, and what I came up with is almost the same as what NoClassic has. So took the Grinder and made some mounts: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_...o/IMG_2444.JPG I made them of 5mm thick angled steel. This is what it looks like: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-M...o/IMG_2445.JPG https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-f...o/IMG_2446.JPG Sorry about the hand and the bad quality of the pics, made with my cellphone.... |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
That looks good.
Kim |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Nice shock mount Kees. You are moving right along!
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Nice work!
Have you seen this build, they are also using the Jag suspensions front and rear. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=653170 |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Kees,pic looks find, nice bracket...Jim
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Thanks guys!!
No, I had not seen it ChuckDriver. Just read it, they have a bit more work than me :metal: Great to see a family involved in a build ;) Yesterday I talked about a broken bolt in the carrier, this is my solution to get it repaired. I drilled the broken bolt out, made new thread just milimeter thicker, from 7/16" (11 mm) to M12 metric https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-y...o/P1260117.JPG The bracket is hold by the two (!!) bolts, that at his turn holds the lower control arm. The bolt on the right I've made, the bolt on the left is from Jag. Here you can clearly see the difference in size: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-X...o/P1260118.JPG When you bolt everything together it looks like this: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3...o/P1260119.JPG Put some new paint on it, just because I can :lol: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-q...o/P1260120.JPG While I was at it, I could, at the same time, move the diff permanently to his new home, so I did: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-f...o/P1260121.JPG Tonight I cleaned the lower control arms and mounted them on the diff. Also gave them some shiny black paint. Unfortunately no pics of them, because I forgot to take all my digital stuff.... That's for next time!! |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Always a good thing when painted parts are going back on!
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Nice safety wire job.
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Damn Kees, I keep repeating myself, but it's a fantastic build!
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Nice work as usual...Jim
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Nice fix on the bolt.
Looks real good. Kim |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
1 more check off the list!!!
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Thanks again guys!!
And indeed one more check off the list ;) Just two thousend to go, more or less....:metal: Just got back of a few hours work, nothing much done... Welded the shockmounts on the subframe: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-A...o/P1260126.JPG Also made an extra gusset at the front side of the subframe, 'cause you never know ;) https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-x...o/P1260127.JPG Took a pic of the rear that I promised you: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-U...o/P1260125.JPG Calipers next, then the half shafts and shocks...almost ready!! Back to the front, I have a broken bolt on the lower control arm, I drilled it out. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-4...o/P1260129.JPG Here you see the broken bolt, it's a 3/8" unf, 5 grade. Difficult to come by overhere. Searched on the net what I could use to have the same strenght, looks like your grade 5 is the same as our 8.8 bolts... That makes it a lot easier to repair the bolt holes. I think I drill them all to metric M10, also is mounting the springpan a lot easier to do ;) Then I can use 4 threaded bars to get the spring at his place, instead of one thread through the middle... We'll see... |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Nice job! Can't wait to see this thing on it's wheels..!
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Looks real good.
Kim |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Just curious, where do the tops of the front shocks mount on the Jaguar car?
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
It's interesting that a British car has so many non-metric bolts.
