Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
If can't come up with a stock strip to paint black here, I'll just fab up a piece to hold down the rubber strip. Anybody got pic's of this mod?

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
just wondering if you changed your transfer case to a np 205. and if you did do you still have the coupler for your dana 20.
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
I wish I had the swap completed. NP205 is still laying on the garage floor waiting to go in. When swap is completed, probably this spring, many parts will be available. Sorry, nothing at this very moment. Thank's for following my thread and good luck with your build!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Found a lower tailgate/weatherstrip holddown strip. Pic's asap.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Happy Thanksgiving weekend to all! I am back on major overtime at work starting tomorrow morning. That's a good thing, I need to gather more funds to rebuild my 1 ton axles before spring. Been thinking about the motor for this project, gonna need a major replacement/rebuild before resto is done. Really looking at some kind of fuel injection/manifold setup for the new motor, any ideas?

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Thank's, sounds like a plan. I was thinking of maybe making mine into a 383 stroker with fuel injection?

Depending on machining costs, you could probably have a blown (supercharged) LS motor for less than an aftermarket fuel injected 383.... My plan was a 383....until I started reading the LS swap forum on here ;) :chevy: |
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Allrighty then, looking into the LS setup. That part of the build is down the road a way, but I will study for now!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Really looking at the LS swap!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Just won a oem hood emblem on ebay! My K5 didn't have one on it, and as I am going back to the original 70 grille setup. This part should complete that area. I prefer the 70 grille design over all the rest. One reason is because it will allow me to move the parking lights up out of the bumper area. I swaped my K5 to the 72 style setup years ago when I picked up a 72 donor for the front axle. At the time the grille and etc where in better shape than my original stuff.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Been Christmas shopping and picked up a few needed items for the K5. Gotta wait for Santa to bring them on the 25th, as they are going to be from the kids! Gosh, (I) wonder what they are? I am still looking at the LS swap, but don't know how far I am away from a motor swap here. Sure like the way my dad's 02 chevy 6.0 runs though!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Ok, stupid question here. I know I have seen this before, but as usual, I am brain dead. Got the 1 ton Dana60 frt and 14 bolt corp rear axles ready to be rebuilt to go in the K5. They are out of a "94' chevy 1 ton. I have not checked them for gear ratio, but seller said they were 3.73's. What is the range of gear ratio on these axles? I have ran the calculators, and thought 4.56's would be good, but lately thinking that may not be low enough. I plan on running my current small block for now with my 465/4 speed manual trans/swap in a np205 t-case with 40" tires. Not going to be a 70 mile an hour cruiser much, but still needs to be a little bit streetable between trail runs. Also anyone know where to get a good deal on gear swap kits for these axles?
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
5.13 with 40's, would be about the same as 4.56 with 35's.

Thank's again VT, that helps!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Wow my memory is getting really bad. I posted earlier that my 1 ton axles were out of a "94"chevy, when in reality when I just ran the BOM #'s, they are out of a "84" chevy K30. Like I said, memory is gone, I knew this when I drove to WI to pick them up a year ago. Kinda cool looking at the stamped numbers, found 11 83 numbers also stamped on the axle tube. Looked up the BOM #'s and say's frt axle was GM frt, 82-87 K30. Sounds good to go for me! Knowing exactly what is is should make the rebuild easier for parts buying.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Got the OEM hood emblem today, e-bay sucks! Spent cash on this and will not use it! I would rather buy a repop so it looks right! Got another ornament for the k5 shelf! Live and learn as I go here, everything I have bought off this forum has been as described.
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Got a nice battery tray off e-bay today! I guess I spoke too soon. My tray wasen't too bad but this one is better, now just need to find a auxilary battery tray for the winch battery. I had a custom one welded in earlier but don't like the looks of it.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Only 6 days left for Santa shopping! CHECK THAT LIST, and CHECK IT TWICE! K5's are always's naughty and nice. K5 presents are coming to town! HO HO HO!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Get to work! This has to be the record for the longest thread with the least amount of work done.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Yea, I hear ya dbus. Thank's for reminding me of this fact. I feel I have made some good progress over the summer. Bought a lot of needed parts for the resto, and figured out what exactly I want to do to finish my K5. I spent a lot of cash, but have most of what I need to do the frame off. My major setback is I do not have a location to tear it down and work on it . Now I just need to work up the cash to finish it up. Life makes it hard sometimes to stay on track. Three teenage kids, two with fresh drivers licenses, a wife, house to maintain, today's economy, lack of funds, the list goes on. By the way, my K5 is my main focal point-but you do what you have to do-day by day. I feel I am on track for this build, and in the spring it comes back out of storage for major progress! Thank's everybody for following my long thread!
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Right on BigJ! Sad, no progress here, but MERRY CHRISTMAS everybody!
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Nice presents for me from Santa! My build is on track, fab work next, lining up welder work for new metal floor/rocker/etc work come spring!
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Happy New Year to Everybody here! Going to work on my leftover K5 parts that will be for sale soon. I need to sell some stuff to fund the spring makeover major project! Just need to sort thru all this stuff, and get some pic's for ya'll!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Well it's been a year today since I got the 1 ton axles home. I need advice on what to line up for driveshafts . Really want to go with the High Angle shafts, I want to go with the strongest yoke/flange setup. Any advice on whether to go with the 1350 stuff or 1410? I am willing to upgrade the t-case yokes, and etc., but am kinda lost on what to pick up used and modify to fit my lift/angle setup. Quick update- Dana60 frt, 14blt rear, m465 4 speed manual, np205 t-case, 8" lift, any help on what to pick up before I can afford the HAD stuff? If I could find some used shafts to modify now, it would allow me to proceed with axle swap sooner and get the K5 mobile with the 1 tons!
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Anybody got any used 1 ton shafts laying around gathering dust? Just frt and rear yoke setups would be a start. I can fab up the temp shafts for now and at least be mobile. Thank's guy's! Swapping in axles out of a "84" K3500.
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Sorry, not trying to break the rules here. Just looking for some advice on these shafts, thank's guy's!
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Just ordered up a set of top u-bolt plates for the Dana60 frt axle, pic's asap! Wish I had a big polebarn to work on my project, this spring things are about to change, gonna build area to house the K5!
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Got the u-bolt plates today for the dana60 frt! Man are they beefy looking, 1/2 in thick steel. Came bare steel, so I need to clean and paint them up this weekend. Looked at some stock ones but they come with the sway bar mounting holes, and am planning on not running a sway bar. Now just need to round up a set of new u-bolts for the 14 blt corp rear. I'll try to get some pic's this weekend.
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Alright, looking at the axle yokes again. What is best here, the 1350 or 1410? Looks like the the 1350 is more common, but am looking for some advice here! Want to upgrade all the 1 ton yokes, and looking for strongest setup.
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Guess I just answered my own question doing some searching. Looks like High Anle Driveline has everything I will need for the shafts. Gonna go with the bigger 1410 u-joints, yokes, etc. Too bad I don't have any money to drop on it right now, but it will happen. Always too much month at the end of the money!
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Read a real nice tech article on the HAD shafts over on Pirate 4x4. Looks like just what I need. Real pricey though, but what isn't when it comes to this stuff? I got a real nice dash bezel today, black with the chrome, looks real nice! Also got a little good news from work, looks like I'll be busy there for awhile. Thats good news for now, need more funds!
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Take pics!! :uhmk:
:mm::chevy::mm: HighAngle Driveline did mine: 1410 U-joint and DIY4X guard http://lh5.ggpht.com/_s41zmvZTlf8/TT...0/100_2333.jpg http://lh3.ggpht.com/_s41zmvZTlf8/TT...0/100_2325.jpg Kinda hard to tell but it's a flange mount at the Xfer oh and 1350 U-joint...works very well! |
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Right on Burt! That's what I'm looking at. Not much to take pic's of right now but about two feet of snow. In the spring when my K5 comes back out those 1 ton axles are going in and I can give Jess at HAD all the info to build mine. Hope to have saved enough cash over the winter to get both front and rear shaft setups plus the driveline e-brake too! Thank's for more pic's of your's, love it!
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
just curious but how much would a guy be looking at for had driveshafts
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
YEARS ago I think I paid 390 rear and 250 front..probly 2002-3 err somewere in there:uhmk:
:mm::chevy::mm: |
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Thank's Burt! In my case, I don't have the 1 tons in yet, so don't have all the specs yet to get a actual quote from Jess yet. I plan on front and rear saft setups running around $400.00-500.00 each, plus the driveline e-brake setup for $299.00 + the flange off the t-case for around $109.00 + etc = around $1500.00 or so! Hopefully I can pick it up cheaper, but just ballparking it high for now. Seems like a high price, but what a setup! Plan on doing it once and doing it right for stage 4!
|
Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
I paid $550 for my rear shaft and flange a couple years ago. Best money I spent.
I believe my buddy was $1400 for the front, rear, flange, and driveline brake |
