Finally decided to leave it like the original shape.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Grill frame and one bar installed to check fit. Here you can see I have cut the fender. I removed about 1/8" of material, moved out, and welded to maintain a good gap with hood.

A cover I made to hide some of the ugly around the radiator.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
That's it for today, tomorrow we move to inside the cab, but not what you might think:uhmk::uhmk:

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Now I'm starting on my preliminary interior set-up. I try to get as much stuff done ahead of time, before I do my final stuff on the cab, in case I need to weld, etc. This is the formed corner for the cab.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Here it has been installed. You can see that I'm using my bracing for attachment points for the interior. If you look close you can see the screws going into the brace.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

With the center piece installed. Once everything is covered in material, it will be hard to see the screws. The coverplate at the corner, is for my inside lift handle for the door latch. I know this looks like wainscoting for the kitchen, but with material applied it will look like pleats.

This is a sample piece I made to show friends.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
Tomorrow will be going back for some more body work. Enjoy Jim.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
I like the interior a lot. It also gives me some ideas as the interior will be one of the last things that I do.
Where did you get the arm rests from? I like where you are going with this. Marc |

Pic 2 Drivers side fender, on work horse. Pic 3 Pass fender had a bow along the edge. Pic 4 Doesn't look bad in pic, but it was, had to cut some reliefs and weld it back. |

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Another poor use of bondo, this was on the pass. fender and was a least 1/2" thick.
|
Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
1 Attachment(s)
They had bondo starting at the top and going all the way to the bottom, at various thickness.
|
Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
2 Attachment(s)
Pic 1 This is one of their reasons for bondo, fender was pushed way in at the bottom.
Pic 2 I made a couple of relief cuts, straightened and welded back together. |
Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
2 Attachment(s)
Pic 1 A few days later all repairs made, body work done and in primer.
Pic 2 Also primered the inside of front fenders, over the encapsulator paint. |
Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

The inner fender panels are next.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Here I have welded in partial exhaust tubes to form pockets. Pockets are to make it easy to get to alignment bolts for front end. Will also weld in piece to cover old hole for steering.

Not a good pic, but you get the ideal.

Inside of front fender. I put 3 coats of bed liner on all 4 fenders, this is to help from getting stars in the paint from rocks, etc. It works great.

Pic 1 Grill frame in paint.
Pic 2 Most of the grill bars painted and installed, one to go. |
Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Don't it look pruuuuudy. Paint is by PPG, single stage urethane, called Theatrical Teal.
|
Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
2 Attachment(s)
Pic 1 Front fenders all painted (both sides).
Pic 2 Here is one rear fender with paint. With the bed liner it makes it look like they are fiberglass, but their all steel. You can also see part of filler tube for gas. |
