I was going to suggest 7 and 8 inch ralley wheels with a nice 4.5/6 drop. That may not work with NOS stock look you are going for. |

It's not going to be completely stock. Basically looking to do a Stock style resto with a little extra "curb appeal" Gloss frame, silver accents in the suspension, shiny underhood, a little extra polish overall than stock would have been. But still lots of NOS parts and nice rebuilt original parts. |
Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
I myself dislike the rallys and id perfer the stock caps on a truck like this. That is just my 2.56433 cents worth..
|
Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
i love the stock wheel look myself. My $0.02...

Seems most prefer the stockers but I personally really like the rally wheels....and the last set of NOS stock wheel covers I saw sold for almost $1000....:waah: I think it's going to be rally wheels and the next owner can put stock wheels or whatever else on. I mean, why spend 1000 on the stock covers only to find out the next owner plans to drop it and put 20's on it  And by the way...Jerry Brown and CSM use some sort of rally wheel on their BB SWB Super trucks that bring somewhere between 40-70K..... I wanted to note I really do appreciate everyone's time they took to note their opinion!!! :chevy: |
Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
A small setback today when the sandblaster showed up (well before he even came) the price went up and he wasn't even doing as much....his buddy talked him out of doing all he was going to do saying he wouldn't make enough....
So..... I'm just going to finish up the rest of the work by hand. It'll save me enough to afford to buy the complete new shortbed that is ready to paint. Now my only decision is metal floor or wood :D I'm thinking wood since it's going to be a show truck....and stain the wood to match the interior and exterior woodgrain!!! But that'll add another week or so to the project....so I don't know. :drama: |
Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
Well, I just did an unscientific scan through eBay to see what trucks $20K and up are doing, and the ralley's are the most popular, followed by mags. The $40K truck had mags, but there were a lot of mods to that truck. Only found one with P02's.

And I don't necessarily expect to sell it on ebay. Most of the higher sellers have been sold at shows like Super chevy or carlisle....thinking maybe the Carlisle truck nats will be a good place if it's not sold by then.... I guess I should just worry about getting it done first  I'm going to try to get the truck over to Jason's tomorrow or Tuesday. |
Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
eBay is just an easy place to research, especially SOLD prices. I think you've got the right idea on where to sell it.
I'll be glad when you're done with your parts gathering phase. Maybe the rest of us can have a shot at some NOS pieces. |
Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

....well...except for what's headed my way this week and the grille, steering wheel,.... :D Actually have about 95% of all the parts to put this truck together between NOS, perfect or almost perfect used, and bead blasted nice used parts. And a few repops....just a few  |
Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
I think I mentioned it before....but I used all my recent paypal balance to buy more parts....
.....now have all my NOS lenses either in house or on the way. And have all the engine pulleys and power steering setup on the way...as well as the correct carb for a 72 402BB truck, and some extra bits and pieces....a mighty expensive order is on its' way  |
Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
Well, the wheel situation is settled!
My wife likes the rally wheels better. She's got good taste and I like them better too! :D |
Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
Hopefully got the TH400 issue straightened out today. Have a backup now just in case...

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
Cool on the ralleys, good choice,Jonathan & keep on truckin'' :metal:

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
I believe, based on your SPID, you should have chrome dog-dish center caps. Those may look very nice. I haven't seen the small caps on a well equipped truck but it may look good.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
Picked up my truck plates to run on it today. I like that 72 plates in VA are black with white lettering. I'll probably just run the rear plate since this will be a trailer queen anyways :D

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
That's dust in the pics...It's basically like NOS!
Also got an NOS :D Radiator cap  It's an A/C delco and was cheaper on ebay than I could find locally...was advertised as NOS...not sure if the part # is an old one but I didn't care ;) http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...B/IMG_5792.jpg and got these nice 8 400 emblems from Sharpie...still going to try to find NOS ones at a swap meet but if not these are as nice as I'll ever find for originals. A little black paint and a quick polish and they'll be great! http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...B/IMG_5791.jpg |

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!
I'm amazed at the pace you've been able to maintain on this. You have great planning skills to keep the project moving forward while you're still in acquisition mode. It's obvious this aint your first rodeo.

Got this to cover the radiator...I know it's not factory but I like the way they look. It'll be painted to match the rad support.
