yeah, i don't know Dale, going threw a spell-age maybe.....
you should see the floor under my bench, glad i got extra laminate....& when you spill it on your pants, they become stiff as steel... wife's paint i found did'nt pan out, thinned it right down & still thick & lumpy. i sprayed the int with it & it covered the door & window crank completely. i liked the color though, think it's called "nutmeg", so i left it there & glued some plastic over the cranks to kinda 3D them. the bench is a shortened & raised one from an impala Attachment 1396093 found this color (dont photo worth a darn) but it will work. the rear view is more the color....kinda....nutmeg... just dropped the body on the frame to check, made a stupid mistake & did'nt catch it, the 454 is longer & puts the fan right into the rad-going to have to figure something out without making a huge mess (1 step forward, 3 steps back.....) Attachment 1396091Attachment 1396092 and been searching hard for boxes for the crew, which will cost me an arm & a leg, but i did find this on the net, i can build it for free, fits my cheap theme, & i could build it like the picture for free (got lots of stocker stuff), but i blew my cheap theme all to heck & ordered a whack of swamps, axles, t-case's.....bout $60 worth so i can build a "ALPINE" off-road rollback, companion to Light Rescue 168.... Attachment 1396094Attachment 1396107 |
Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
I like the color, it has work truck feel to it. Truck looks tough. I like tow trucks, roll back would be cool.

yeah, it would be waaay cheaper (like free!) to do a rollback than get 2 shorties to make a LB.
managed to get out of my screw up. cut the rad out of the core & shoved it forward-works! yay, cause it's forward now, the hood dont close.... well my day got off to great start....
first thing this morning, a piece of metal tagged my thumb, felt it hit the bone.... should have went for stitches, but we were on the far side of Harrison lk, 'bout 40 mins to the walk-in, & we had a few passing showers, so i really could'nt comfortably go anyways with the roof half done.....plus i NEED the hrs.... i'm going to try finish the cameo, then take a break for a week or so. trying to build models with 1 thumb is like.....hmmmm, trying to pick your nose with your big toe  Attachment 1397266 |
Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
man, i should have stayed in bed today....
attempted to one thumb the windows in the cameo, spilt thinner all over the windshield. wiped it off right away, but 10 mins later the old plastic started cracking up-bummer! so it's on indefinite hold till i can find a windshield. really hoping someone on my model forum comes threw....figures....:waah: |
Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
Ouch!!!! I suggest you let that heal up a bit. Does the bone feel like it's bruised? If so that takes a while to quit hurting. Not to be a smart acre or anything but that would have been a good candidate for the super glue to close it up....

notice to self-attach super glue holder to work belt.... and yeah, it stings, worst part is every time i bend my thumb-rriiiip!! but this hurts worse...:waah: Attachment 1397656 edit, more crap, in 15 mins on the way to the dentist to have my mouth ripped apart-yay! |
Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
Should of stayed in bed? Hell no, you should be hiding under a rock.... On the bright side, maybe the dentist will give you pain meds that will help the thumb too. I hope you can find another windshield fairly easily. I guesstoday was feathers...

hiding under a rock? heck, dam rock fell on me!
and oh yeah, dentist nailed me good, 2 cavaties. she shot me EIGHT times in the mouth, my lips were draggin' on the floor when i left there..... so to make myself feel better, i went & put 3 mos insurance on the crewcab, YAY! (just hope the cops dont bug me over a ripped ins. decal, yes it stuck to my finger & ripped in half...) Attachment 1398359 one good thing about getting sheet metal cuts on your hands, the cuts are clean & narrow (and usually deep) my tumb is closing up real nice, have a scar, but chicks-nope scratch that, my wife loves scars... cleared off my bench so nothings around me & started cutting up a rollback. this was as far as i got before i ran out of c-channel & tubing (which i went & got today...) Attachment 1398358 at least the int is free, this is what i got, i started cutting them apart last nite, but i'm really thinking just make a new int tub. i'm low on bench seats, so i'll prob cut out them molded ones & re-hash them Attachment 1398357 and the best news, buddy on the model forum has a '55 window YA-HOO! |
Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
Great news on the healing and windshield. You can crawl out from under the rock now....lol. Roll back bed is looking good. I've been driving my K30 crew the last couple of weeks, it's kinda cool.

yeah, i been walking softly lately Dale, was doing good till sat.
making bad choices again.... decided to pick up a few extra hrs at work, went in on sat to fix one of the truck racks (good decision) things were going good till it came time to weld every thing up, SOMEONE "borrowed" my welding gloves & did'nt put them back. decided to use regular work gloves (bad decision....) as you can guess, a bunch of sparks went thru them in a tenth of a second, too bad it took me 10 seconds to start smelling "steak".... i gotta cut this out, turning this into a blood & gore thread.... Attachment 1399655 but i still managed to get a start on the rollback... Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
Safety First....LOL!!!! Good thing you have a good nose. Rollback looks awesome. You're right the headache rack should be a touch higher than the cab. That way the lightbar is visible from both ends. Are you going to fab a towbar/wheel lift for the back?

actually i was just trying to make it simple & this is what it's looking like.
looked at a few online, but i did'nt really pattern it off any one specific picture... hoping my swamps for it will be here next week. and seeing how it's a ROLLback, & i got this ford, just dawned on me to build it like a normal 4by that was rolled. flatten the roof a bit, busted glass, some dents, a flat tire so it's got a 3 legged dog lean.... Attachment 1400560 |
Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
It's looking fantastic, I think that's a good use for the Ford.

yup, it would be a good use for a ford!
ok, wow, when it rains it pours....needed a window for the '55.... found a local guy with a HUGE collection of models, some very rare & cool kits, old Jo-hans, tractor trailers, planes, fire engines..... snagged these 3 trucks for $35 another '55 (a stepper though) a '90 stepper, & a '59 elco. i have the '59 already, i tubbed & caged it, so you know where this one is going-up....:metal: also have the '90 already too, but i'm glad i got another one. i built mine to resemble my 1:1 '90 step, & was almost going to tear it down & rebuild it-higher....:metal: Attachment 1402856 also bought this box off him for $15.... Attachment 1402857 hmmm.... the '56 is basically just a shell, the 150 step is all there, but looks like a ford should.... (maybe "roll" this one for the back of the rollback...) the ranchero is actually quite nice & well done-mite just leave this one alone- for now.... Attachment 1402861 this made the box worth it! another'55 cab, another nicely done '55, & a 454 SS with a monkey paint job, but it's all there (dont have a '88-'98 sb fleetside in the collection-& already a big block to boot) thinking of either turning the '55 into a suburban (ala napco), or seeing how i got all these cabs- a '55 crewy....:metal: Attachment 1402862 a bag of junk in the bottom, like them oxy-acytelene tanks... Attachment 1402863 he also has another box, chev dually (like the red one i just built), a '78 blazer, mike skinner goodwrench no. 3 truck, & a topless s-10 that he wants $15 for-i got a feeling i will be going over there later again.... i'm going to snatch the windshield out of the green '55 for now so i can finish the cameo, i'll replace it with the window buddy is sending me. should have the cameo done pretty quick now.... |

been getting some of the basic's done. lots of trial & error & FITTING!
nothing glamorous been spending too much lately (according to wife...) so i did'nt order my $30 one ton rims. using the rims from the sneaky pete. besides not being close to fitting, they will need lock-outs & axle/axle flanges. what a boring thing to do....sand, sand, sand Attachment 1404073 made a few changes to the frame, started adding rivets Attachment 1404074 and finally got some kind of tub happening. was going to build one, but it would use up my 030 stash, & i'll need it for later. seeing how 'bout 91% of it is out of my junk box.....hate them ugly molded seats- at least they match:lol: this is what i got so far after figuring it all out, i will make door panels, window cranks, seatbelts,...... well, the tub fits nice, i have a floor. now i can get going. just have to mock up a drivetrain & mounts. thinking i should have bought 44's or 49's, them 38's look small......

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
Man, you been busy while I was up north at my cabin. It all looks great and I agree about shortening the wheel base. I like the 38's. The front end would sit a little higher with a load on it. So with a truck up there it will look correct. I'm also liking the detail (rivets). Nice attention to details. Keep it up!

hey, it's always great to get out!
got a question, prob simple & stupid to you, but i have'nt drove a rollback, nor can i find a pic on the computer- are the deck controls mounted to the deck? or stationary & mounted to the frame? Attachment 1404706 gathering parts from my stash, only matched part of the 454 is the block/tranny. everything else is mis-match..,..:metal: getting good at scratchin' air cleaners... Attachment 1404707 some cab work the firewall is from the sneaky pete kit, has a mini kenworth nose, so after a bunch of grinding- got it into a squarebody. lost the floor ribbing sanding the bejeezus out of it, so laid some strip styrene over what was left. will putty it up & smooth it & hopefully look like actual cab ribbing Attachment 1404708Attachment 1404709 |

have a warn electric winch i was going to use on the deck, but it looked TINY & WIMPY on there....went looking for a pic & see some of the older trucks are running worm gear winches. i think a worm gear with cogged wheels looks more interesting then a wimpy electric, so i ripped apart a old car cassette player, hoping to get one or 2 decent size wheels. boy, was i surprised when this many came out of it....
Attachment 1404712 but i'm really liking these things too, whatever they are.... couple yr supply of oil filters. couple of the bigger ones on the hydraulic tank..... Attachment 1404713 this is what i got so far.... Attachment 1404711 and check these babies out! guy on the model board is casting these, i ordered 4 racks of them- $3 a rack. wish i had these yrs ago.... and another dude from canada (less shipping/ no exchange :metal: ) is casting me up a couple of sets of some beauty 1 ton rims, & only a buck & a half a rim Attachment 1404714Attachment 1404715 |
Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
The bed controls are frame mounted (stationary). Standard equipment is on the drivers side. Optional dual controls are on both sides. Air cleaner looks great. Everything is coming out nice. Creative thinking on the wideband using the transistors as oil filters.
