Well, I'm sure you all can figure out what is happening now.

Burb #1 has ALOT of rot to repair, which I was all ready for.

Burb #2 was picked up for $500 to donate most of its sheetmetal ...

However, its a no brainer to build #2 as it is need to WAY less rot repair.

It does have some, very minor compared to #1.

Stay tuned !!

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

Nice score on Burb #2. Can't blame you for not wanting to deal with all that rust repair on Burb #1, so I agree with you on it being a no-brainer!

MORE PICS FROM YESTERDAY !!

My motivational buddy was in town again today to give me a hand. We cut the fasteners, and removed the wood floor (which it is in better shape as well).

I ran home, and grabbed the Roadmaster frame to give it a rough test fit ... looks like it is gonna be a nice swap !!

The wheelbase is actually good. It looks short in this pic, but it wasn't centered, due to the fuel fill was preventing movement.

The plan this time (since the Burb mounts are solid) is too mock up the frame to body mounts FIRST and THEN have the whole thing blasted.

At that point, I will repair what rust it does have, then proceed ...

Where have you been ??

JK ....

It's a GM B-BODY ... (Caprice, ImpalaSS, Roadmaster, Cadillac)

This particular one is from a 94 LTI Roadmaster.

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

Well I had a little bit of a speed bump today that I wasn't expecting, nor did I catch it in the beginning !!

I went to my shop, and started the day by removing the LT1's Fuel tank. This is when I noticed something ....

I was looking at the resonators and thinking "I cant wait to cut these off" .... Then I noticed the drivers side's rubber hangers looked stretched.

Then I noticed the frame !!:sumo:

I was excited because I got to use my special tool ... YAAAA !

You know that one tool ....

The tool that never gets used much ?

The tool that you bought YEARS ago because you thought is was cool, but never knew you were gonna ever use it ??

That's right folks ...

THE PORTA POWER !!

:metal:

ChiefRocka 08-25-2014 12:40 AM

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

After jigging it up by welding some temporary steel to keep the porata-power ram in check, and some careful presses and little at a time ...

I was able to get it back to withing 1/16" of an inch !!

Now the rear section has the same inward taper on both sides.

I almost want to keep pushing, both sides, to get the frame horns parallel with the middle section. As I am making my own mounts, and not ever going back to a Roadmaster, I guess it wouldn't matter....
-

Here you can see a downward slope of the drivers side as well ... about 3/4"

After removing the Radiator support, I was able to lower the body all the way onto the frame !!

I think I am good with how the rear of the body is sitting. The rear cross-section (where the gate mounts to) it laying perfectly on the chassis. Drill some holes and add a body mount ... done.

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

The front however, will need to come down a bit.

The front floor braces will be notched around the frame to allow the body to drop another 4-5 inches.

I am not concerned with doing a massive "body drop". I just want the body to sit low enough without raising or modifying the front metal section of the body. Bad enough my wood floor has to be modified :waah:

I have plenty of room, and the trans to tunnel clearance is huge ....

I'm headed out to ARIZONA this weekend to hang with a childhood friend (baby brutha) ... So I needed to get the body down on the frame before I left ... Just to ease my mind

Hey John - hope you guy's had a good weekend in the desert.

I'm loving the tail-dragger stance in the one pic.

What's the target for the final look with the static drop? Even, raked, or down in the back?

Either way can't lose - it will be cool.

Chased rust repairs ALL weekend in the PS of the cab floor and kick panel... it's just a matter of T I M E.

Keep rock'n,

Last week, Joe showed up again to help out ...

I need to clearance the front inner fenderwells, so ... as with the rear, I removed the shocks, coils, and bump stops to drop suspension to lowest point for upper a-arm clearance.

I may just remove them all together, but for now ... its little cuts at a time ...

The rear section of the frame was modified for clearance to be able to use the OG mounting location.

The inner 'bulge' was removed, and plated.
